The End of the Internet.

Recommended Posts

As you can see under my profile picture I'm not from the USA but still I have something to say about this insane crazy bill. The reason I want to share my opinion is because if the SOPA bill becomes a law this will even hurt the European countries. The most sites visit by a normal European are from America sites like: Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, Youtube and much more. So if the SOPA bill becomes a law the whole world will feel the End of the Internet. (But of course many of you know this already.) I think the worst site to be blocked away will be Google this because it really helps people to go and search the one site they need for there homework or something els. So if the SOPA bill becomes a law it will have affect on me just a European boy surfing on the Internet.

via twitter's CEO - "Closing a global business in reaction to single-issue national politics is foolish," -

What a tool. it may be global business but no one needs twitter to survive. Especially for just a day. Same for Facebook.

At any rate, Im glad some of the largest websites out there are making their point. I find it courageous and well spoke, not foolish. It would only be foolish if say, your business were VISA and you shut down your servers. People will still use wikipedia just as much tomorrow. No ones going to stop using it because of this.

I sent letters to all 3 politicians here in Ohio today.

I guess this topic falls under the donkey category.

While I am against this poorly assembled bill, infomation on the internet gets picked up and shared at a crazy rate and authenticity is an issue. People usually have no idea who the author of an article is, where the information came from, or if the way the information was obtained is legit or not. As communications/new media/ad major, this area is one of my interests and I believe the internet DOES need some sort of filter, but I don't know how you can do that right now. Giving someone the power to shut down a (single or) chain of sites, no matter their size or traffic for a single violation is stupid, straight up dumb. Not only would it negatively affect the economy or networking abilities, but mainly today's way people share and expand on their unique, creative ideas.

Personally, I agree with Twitter. I think the sites that are doing a full blackout are foolish, overreacting, and I believe creating drama to draw attention to themselves to gain media attention. The way Google has done it, IMO is perfect. Millions of people are going to see that, including enough members of the government, without inconveniencing their readers and customers.

I'd honestly be really pissed if Twitter and Facebook shut down today, because, regardless of what you might think, TPR actually DOES rely VERY HEAVILY on Twitter and Facebook EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Without those social networking sites, it would actually have an impact on us.

I'm thankful to the big organizations who are getting the word out, because I think the bill is dumb, but those sites who are doing the full blackouts are going about it the wrong way, and are just pissing some people off, including myself.

^You can also just use google's cache service if you need wikipedia on a regular computer (I have today a few times). Today has been honestly annoying as so many sites I use on the regular have been down. Hopefully it gets the point across to the people that aren't familiar with the issue as it has been an inconveinence for the ones that are against it.

I think the blackouts are a great idea, but I totally disagree with the twitter CEO. To me it came off as criticizing companies who decided to black out. I know some people really rely on twitter, but imagine if it was blacked out forever?

One thing that would have been cool is if Google blacked out all the search results leading to "blacked out" sites. Just have the web spiders look for the JavaScript code.

I was annoyed. I was gonna search up X-Flight on Wiki, but it had to be blacked out. But, SOPA and PIPA on Wikipedia aren't blacked out.

You can avoid the blackout on wiki by doing the search and clicking the "cached" tab. The page will come up normally with the search results highlighted.

Do I see the bill passed?

Honestly yes, only because the politicians in this country don't know how to run a country as big as the U.S. They are corrupt, they don't care about us, and they only want our taxpayer money. The first line in the U.S Constitution is "We the People of the United States," yet they don't ask us about how we care about this law. We are the People, so we should have say about what happens in Capital Hill. Obama might not have support for the bill, but if two-thirds of Congress do, then our only hope would be that the Supreme Court deny their bill. If Congress does pass the bill then they, as our representatives, have failed to do the one thing that they were elected to do: represent the People of the United States.

^ More shocked at the use of the words "popular" and "Google+" in the same sentence!

So I'm a nerd!

Support for both SOPA and PIPA are falling apart in both parties because of internet protest and bad press. Obama is choosing tech over entertainment as well. So it's just starting to look hopeful that these bills will not pass.

And yes, the OATMEAL is the most awesome! (Opera on a jet ski with Jesus, LMAO!!!)

And as an interested observer....

What IS President Obama going to be

talking about - at the... Magic Kingdom???

(Sorry, but I never followed why - only

that he was going to be there, Thurs.)

After all of this has now happened, I wonder if

the original speech has been altered, at all.

The Walt disney company supported this bill so I doubt he will bring it up. The speech is about promoting tourism to the us.
