Ever feel like you had a near death experience on a coaster?

Don't why but its not a coaster but i completely freaked out on Ring of Fire at a carnival...my daughter(5 years old) wanted to get on it and she is pretty tall....well i started to freak out and she was actually coming out of the seat and i had to hold her.....the guy kept it upside down for sooo long and people were screaming it was stuck....NEVER AGAIN...LOL.

Definately I have. I'd have to say a couple of times.

 

My first ride on X was the biggest. I wanted to go on that coaster so bad, yet I was freaked out about the rotating cars. Sure, I love the ride now, but I was scared the first ride.

 

Also, my first ride on Viper was pretty bad, only because I was haunted by stories of whiplash and memories of Windsurfer.

 

Third, my first ride on Xcelerator. I was strapped in and was scared of the launch. The way they make you wait there is awesome now, but I just wanted it to be over.

 

Those are the only times. After those 3 experiences, I now am a more experienced coaster rider, therefore, I am not scared, nay, excited by new challenges.

Deja Vu freaked me out a bit when I rode it. Other than that I haven't really been scared by a coaster.

 

Now my first ferris wheel ride is a different story.

The Kraken scared the shot out of me the first time I rode it. But now i'm grateful I rode it because now it is my number one coaster.

 

Also with Steel Venom, when I visit Valleyfair! Every time I do, I fear a little of riding it. Once you get in that seat, you're pretty darn scared. Until they start counting down, then you start to relax. I screamed so loud one time on that ride, my ears went from a surround sound, to a sterio sound. I recovered after that though.

 

 

Power Tower at Valleyfair! scared me a little too much. The drop isn't the worst part of the ride, it's being held at the top 250ft. high.

 

I've only refused to go on a ride once because I was so nervous and that was on power tower. And I regret it.

To be quite honest, I rode American Eagle for the first time this summer and the first drop scared the CRAP out of me! We were riding backwards (blue train I think) and I didn't know that it had so much air, and when it would stop! I loved the ride, but was just a little suprised!

 

Another time was my first ride on TTD, I was 13, it was opening season, and it rolled back all the time. Needless to say, I started freaking out at the pre launch break thing. Another factor is I had been out of coasters for about 3 years, and haden't been to CP sence MF opened. Still, I had a good time

SROS was my first hyper... I still can't put my hands up while going down that drop. THe Yankee Cannonball, however, is scary because after the turnaround, you are tossed all over the place.

Psyclone at SFMM... we had been warned... but didn't heed the warning... it was so painful. my wife had bruised ribs afterwords... and all we could think was... if we die on this ride at least it will be over.

There is only one rollercoaster I have truly been afraid of. Flight of Fear at PKD, my second launched rollercoaster. This rollercoaster was an odd experience for me, because I had already been on Rock 'n Roller Coaster twice before this one. When me and my friend got up to be next, all of a sudden fear kicked in big time. My heart started punding and I could feel my muscles in my arms lock up. I almost dipped out of ridding this coaster.

 

At the end of the ride, I needed help out of the coaster because my leg muscles were about to lock up. My hands and arms stayed in a locked up position for about 10 minutes, they felt really weird.

 

And after all of this, I rode it a second time and realised how bad the ride actually was. Why the hell was I afraid? I have no idea.

It was when I was 4 or 5 I went on big thunder mountain and materhorn and was scared outta my mind the monster and fake falling rock scared me so bad I was about to cry it was a long time ago though

I got freaked out on Desparado at Buffalo bills, but i wasn't scared at all on Mellenium Force

Cyclone at Willow Grove because I thought it would fall apart.

Blue Streak at CLP because I tried riding in the last car with my arms up in the air. The only time I away had to pull my arms down and hold on.

when i first went on xcelerator i kept seeing the people get launched into what seemed like hell. i was freaked out but still had a good time.

 

other than that, i'm scared of those drop towers where they pull you up slowly and release you at a random time. if rides could kill....... :shock:

I get scared on most coasters pretty much all the time. :shock: But it's ok, for me that's part of the fun.

I've been scared on a few coasters and non-coasters. Xcelerator, Goliath, The Ferris Wheel, Supreme Scream, and Colossus Backwards

 

The first was the Ferris Wheel. I was on it with my mom and she started rocking it. She rocked it so much we were almost on our backs! I screamed so loud to get off. But the opperator had an attitude problem about it though, because he was mad at me.

 

The next was Supreme Scream. The line was like only 5 minutes so I didn't really have any time to reasure myself that it was fine. But any way, I was there with my dad last summer. I'm 11 even though my little info thing says 13. But anyway, we got on and mydad started making all these jokes about how it was gonna brake. It felt like an eternity going up that tower. Finally we got to the top and it made that jolt. If you've ever been on it before you know what i'm talking about. It scared the crap out of me. When we dropped I screamed so loud. I was so scared. I ended up riding it again though.

 

Xcelerator is was hell for me. I kept watching the people get launched and go into the top hat. Then come back down screaming. It looked so scary. I rode in the back seat. You get so much airtime on this ride! I ended up loving this ride though, must ride for Knotts.

 

On Goliath while I was in line my heart was pounding, I was really hoping there would be seatbelts and a lapbar on it, like on Ghostrider. It didn't. That made me really nervous because even on Ghostrider I had major airtime. So I almost didn't ride, but my dad forced me, I mean encouraged me to, so I did. At the top of the lift hill it feels like the car is gonna roll back. the drop wasn't all that scary for me though. Lift hills freak me out more than drops. All in all, Goliath was really fun I ended up riding it again with my hands up.

 

Last but not least was Colossus Backwards. I litterally cried in the line I did not want to do this at all. Four trains went by until the ops convinced me to ride. It's so awsome, the airtime is good too. Way better than Colossus forwards. You gotta try this in Fright Fest.

 

Well, that's the the rides I was scared to death on. 8) cool huh.

When I was nine years old, I nearly crapped my pants on the Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park. I was barely tall enough to ride it and the restraints, or lack of restraints, was frightening. I thought I was going to fly out of my seat at almost every hill.

 

Then I rode The Canobie Corkscrew, and I thought I was going to die of head trauma.

My first ride on Kraken.

 

I went on my first coaster with inversions (Rock 'n' Roller Coaster) only one month before.

I wasn't afraid of the launch, just the inversions.

As soon as I got off the ride and realized that I just did an upside down ride, I immediately told mysel I could do ANY ride!

 

So I went on Kraken.

I didn't hesitate to go on the ride, but going up the lift hill I nearly crapped myself.

And a zero G roll on a floorless, for the first time ever, was quite intense not expecting what it would be like.

I already had the layout of the coaster memorized long before I ever got on it.

I remember counting the inversions in my head the first time I rode it.

 

I got off the ride, completely amazed by the strong G forces, and my cheeks were tingly (kinda like when your foot falls asleep.)

I was pretty terrified when i first went on B & R: The Chiller, but right after it launched i loved every second of it. Thats the coaster that got me into coasters.

Back in May, I was at SFMM for my friend's birthday party. It was my first time riding roller coasters.

 

Anyway, I had just gotten off my first non-kiddy coaster ever, Viper. Unfortunately, Viper was so rough that it left a terrible impression on me.

 

After that, my friend had us all get into line for the Riddler's Revenge. Although it isn't bigger than Viper, the whole standing-up thing and recent memories of what Viper was like made me terrified. I almost didn't get in line -- I felt sick with fear. I was very afraid of my head getting bashed around even more and that the standup position would be even more uncomfortable than Viper's tiny hard plastic seats...

 

Because it was Tatsu's opening day, the line was quite long. With breakdowns, we ended up waiting about 3 hours. 90% of the time in line, I merely stood there quietly contemplating what it would be like. I was afraid of more pain, and more steep drops (I had not gotten used to drops yet).

 

Eventually, I got on. On the way up the lift, I asked my friend (who was wearing his iPod earbuds on the way up, hehe) if it was going to be fun and smooth. He said yes, but somehow I didn't believe him.

 

From the second we started the drop, I've been a coaster fanatic ever since. If I had not forced myself on Riddler's, I might never have gotten on a roller coaster again... and THAT would be a big mistake.

When I was maybe 6 or 7 years old, I was TERRIFIED of Blazing Fury at Dollywood as though it were a portal into Hell. I suppose I just didn't like the combination of roller coaster, dark, fire, and, er, oncoming train. But my mom dragged me on it multiple times during every visit, despite the fact that I was practically begging her, in TEARS mind you, not to be made to ride it.

I eventually outgrew that phase, obviously, and now look at the monster my mother created. I know the ride is a bit lame, but today it's probably one of my favorites in the park. It's just become a classic for me.

I haven't really been scared to death on a coaster...I mean, when I was five I rode Revolution and Colossus, and when I was six I rode The Edge. So I got off to a pretty early start.
