BarryH
The Great Gasp will probably be sent to Astroworld.
coaster1
Great Gasp will prolly be removed and parts sent to SFGAdv or SFOT since they have the remaining ones in the chain, my bets are on SFOT, since we just received the Excalibur Mine Train cars from Frontier City who had them in storage since it's removal from Astroworld .. what to do with 4 mine train trains? Parts of course
bgwfreak
^ That or Carowinds. Carowinds: Land of the used rides. lol I hope someone buys it. I'd hate to see it trashed. I'm soooooooooo glad I rode it in April when I was down there.
Kroger8
Thats too bad, I have some great memories from the Great Gasp, at one time it and the Dahlonega Mine Train were the only things I would set foot on.
bgwfreak
Just got an email from the Southeast Rep of ACE with the same press release, so it pretty much looks like a done-deal. Sell it to Lake Winnie!!!
SharkTums
I do hope it's saved and not just scraped for parts. I really like those rides! It was one thing to take out the Intamin Air Race for an Intamin Drop...but taking out another Intamin ride for a B&M Hyper...not happy!
GAcoaster
It's up on SFOG's site now too: http://www.sixflags.com/parks/overgeorgia/ParkPress/LastGaspOfSummer.html They have a couple of construction photos (I never knew it was red at one point!). They even have a logo on that sunset pic now: What a shame to see such a classic ride go...hopefully it finds a new home somewhere...
Kroger8
At one time, it even had standing cages on it. I wish they were around when I was riding it.
CoasterCrazy
Does anyone have pictures of the standing cages? I would like to see them!
colinmom71
Here's a picture that shows one of the standing cages... (warning- the pic is rather large!) http://sfog.playride.com/gaspbig.JPG

CoasterCrazy
Here are some construction that were posted at SFOG.NET! http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/coreyml03/album?.dir=997e&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos I'm glad they are starting construction early! CoasterCrazy
The new coaster at SFOG will be called Starship! http://www.11alive.com/video/player.aspx?aid=42757&sid=67588&bw=&cid=
GAcoaster
The new coaster at SFOG will be called Starship! http://www.11alive.com/video/player.aspx?aid=42757&sid=67588&bw=&cid=51 I wouldn't put too much stock in that (dumb) name. I really think it's a case of a mixed up reporter (what are the chances ), since Looping Starship is also being removed for the construction. coaster1
Interesting .. I would think they would call it something different but wouldn't be surprised if that was the name, SF isn't known for being very creative lately afterall.
BarryH
A coaster named Starship? I can see the music that will play in the queue line... "We built this city, built this city, we built this city on rock n roll!" Why can't it be Superman: The Starship?
Kroger8
LOL^ I agree with GAcoaster, "Starship" is probably just a mix up between the Looping Starship and the new coaster. Unless it is a project name.
map2
I think it was the news people that got their information wrong. Six Flags is replacing the Looping Starship with a ride called starship?
CoasterCrazy
IMO if SFOG is going to name the new coaster after one of the rides that was removed they should name it after The Great Gasp!
Sir Clinksalot
A coaster named Starship? I can see the music that will play in the queue line... "We built this city, built this city, we built this city on rock n roll!" Why can't it be Superman: The Starship? LOL on the first part. Superman: The Starship? First of all, that sounds more lame than just Starship. Second, they already have a Superman at the park. Third it's not in the "Superman" area. If anything it's closer to Gotham, so maybe another Batman themed ride.
Imhotep
^ I assume he wasnt being serious about Superman:The Starship, he was poking fun because superman like to use Superman: Blah Blah for alot of different coasters.
Jordan Shankman
rcdb.com is saying that the official announcement will be released on September 1st.
robbalvey
From http://www.screamscape.com: 2006 - Goliath - Under Construction - (8/24/05) A teaser sent out to the local media (thanks to “brkgnews”) seems to have given away the name of the new ride... Goliath. We also received what looks like the possible plans to the new hypercoaster placed over some site images taken from Google Earth. One shows off the likely placement of the layout over a photo of the real site while the other shows a size comparison to the GASM to try and estimate the length of Goliath. The official press conference is scheduled for September 1st. At least if they are re-using a name, it's for a coaster of the similar genre. Not like the old days when Viper at one park was an Arrow multi-looper and a woodie at another. --Robb
Kroger8
WOOT!!!! I can't wait, I'm excited, I wonder then if it will be orange... RCDB now has it posted as well, I have been looking for them to add it. Edited August 24, 2005 by Kroger8
BarryH
I thought Goliath at SFMM was the most boring hypercoaster I've ever ridden. I hope SFOG's Goliath is a lot better!
