The Wildest Wild Mouse

Recommended Posts

One wild ride I have experianced on a wild mouse was on the one Hansa Park on the TPR Scandi trip! To show you how wild it was watch the video below!

I also have some pictures to prove what sort of wild things can happen on the Wild Mouse at Blackpool! Check them out below!

OMG ^^ Chuck I remember this one, the one we rode in 1975 on our first trip to California!

I knew there was one - more - coaster we rode on that trip, but couldn't figure it out. Till now.

Any other coasters were ones at Magic Mountain, Disney, and Knotts.

Thanks! And yes it was a terror to ride. Always felt like we were going to be eventually "dumped"

over the side, along the route, lol.

Good times.

Unfortunately I haven't been on any wooden wild mice yet, so I'll vote for Cyclone at Wonderland, TX:

I remember being dared to ride it with another adult. Didn't know what the big deal was so I rode it with another adult and thought my leg broke. Check out that helix at the end. Loved it, can't wait to get back.

I haven't been on very many, but of the ones I have been on, Valleyfair's Mad Mouse was my most intense.

The turns are sharp, the bizarre support structure adds a sense of danger to the ride, and it's a flipping Wild Mouse with AIRTIME. It's amazing what a couple of unexpected pops of floater time can do to a rides intensity.

The wildest one I've been on is probably the most hated of the bunch - Dark Knight at SFGAm.
The funny thing about our "most hated" coasters is they usually have a set of their own hard core/love fans. Name it - Grizzly, Vortex, etc... all have die hard fans

Never experienced a ride that ran as crazy as that one did on my visit last July.
Is true! A wicked little ride in that box.

Modern Mice

Arrow Mad Mouses, especially Psycho Mouse at CGA. Seemed to mysteriously provide more airtime than other mice!

Modern Miler Mouse (Wild Mouse at Casino Pier; may or may not be defunct): Another notable one for airtime!

Classic Mice

1. Far and away, my favorite is the Herschell Monster Mouse (RIP Puyallup Fair mouse). Adorable cars, awkward lap bars, flimsy structure held together by giant safety pins, great turns and some surprisingly violent pops of air!

2. Classic Miler Mice: I've ridden four, two more than currently exist in the US. Fun but uncomfortable cars, rickety structure, dramatic turns, plus a forceful helix to round it all out. I had the most fun on my first, Tree Top Racers.

3. I'm not really a fan, but I have to give a shout-out to the Herschell Mad Mouse, like the one at Joyland in Texas. Unlike its Monster sibling, it's very tame, but it's no less charming.

From what I've been on, it was a travelling Maurer Sohne Wild Maus Classic that used to be owned by Ray Cammack Shows. The ride operated under the name Wilde Maus and used unique two-seater cars instead of the more common four seat ones. This allowed it to run with no brakes until the end of the ride. Definitely a crazy attraction, and the only wild mouse I've seen with a high height requirement (52" to ride, period). The company owned it from 2000 until the mid-2000s, at which point they traded it in for a Maurer Sohne Compact Spinning Coaster. I believe it is still in operation in Europe somewhere, but I'm not exactly sure where.

For permanent installations, I'd say Psycho Mouse (Arrow Mad Mouse) at California's Great America is probably the wildest I've been on. The former Tree Top Racers (Miler Wild Mouse) at Adventure City was pretty good as well. For the remainder, I generally find the Maurer Sohne rides to be a little more intense than the Mack variety, with Zamperla's the worst of all. For the spinning mice, Maurer Sohne is best (only counting the Compact Spinning Coaster model here), followed by Fabbri, and then Zamperla (at least in my experience). I don't consider Maurer Sohne's other spinning coaster models or Gerstlauer's spinning coasters to be wild mouse rides so they are excluded from these rankings.

Oh, and for steel wild mice (granted, I haven't been on a whole lot of them) I'd say Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster. The backwards drop always gets me as it feels much larger than it actually is. At the by of the day the trimbreaks are seemingly turned off and it FLIES through the coaster section with ridiculous laterals and even some airtime on a few drops. The darkness makes it feel even faster. Awesome little ride.

The wild mouse at Hershey Park is probably the best one I have been on. I remember seeing this one on YouTube a while back and looked pretty intense. I believe it's Road Runner at Kentucky Kingdom but I'm not entirely sure. I have not actually been on it, so I couldn't tell you if it was better or worse than the Wild Mouse at Hershey. Maybe someone else could help out with that.

Scariest one I've ever been on is in Luna Park Sydney. While you queue it goes over head on a turn and you can see the wheels come off the rail. Image via RCDB

Scary stuff but a great view of the bridge and opear house while on a roller coaster.

this is not really a wild mouse, well it's a mack E-motion coaster which is a mix of a wild mouse and normal coaster.

JUST because of the first fall it's horrid, and it really feels you are falling off the edge in the first turns, also because the car banks to the sides.
