milst1 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 See SFGAdv's illustration for their El Toro page: http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/rides/ElToro.aspx
Skycoastin Steve Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I guess SFGAd's visual scan of coaster images wasn't thorough enough.
cfc Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Well, considering that you can buy Raging Bull key chains at Six Flags St. Louis, why not?
walibi owner Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 all six flags parks do that... robin hood SFH picture of loup garou SFB.. old commercial SFH different coasters.
Hercules Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Ace Of Spades Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 ^^I think every epileptic in the room just died.
downunder Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 When I saw the title I thought maybe New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen had visited GAdv and they had renamed El Toro "The Boss" in his honour, at least temporarily.
milst1 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 I shouldn't have done this, but I queried SFGAdv about this in an email. The response included this gem: "I asked our Public Relations department and was told that the picture is a sister coaster of El Toro. This picture was put up before El Toro was built." I had to reply: Are they "sister" coasters because...they're both made out of wood?
Skycoastin Steve Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 ^Wow. Between the marketing travesty that was the SFOG Eurofighter and this hilarious explanation about El Toro/Boss, I'd say Six Flags' marketing department is batting a hefty .000 this fall.
Ace Of Spades Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I shouldn't have done this, but I queried SFGAdv about this in an email. Hilltopper39 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 This is one thing that has always bothered me about parks and their publications. Even though everyone does it except maybe Cedar Point and Disney, you would think for the PR and marketing departments it wouldn't be that hard to have stock video and photos of the attractions at your park.
jamesdillaman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 ^ Most marketing materials are released before the rides are built. It's hard to have pictures of a ride before it exists.
Hilltopper39 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 ^Yeah I understand that but when I see brochures of a park and official websites with pictures of rides that are located at a different property even after the rides are a few years old it is kind of annoying. I understand that a chain like six flags probably makes a single commercial for the entire chain because it is cheaper and easier to do so but surely you could individualize the printed material and the online stuff. Its not that big of a deal and something that only a nerd would recognize but it is still kind of annoying.
eddie200330 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I always felt it odd that the Kings Dominion commercials mostly featured rides and coasters from Kings Island?????
ebl Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 SFMM used pictures of the Big Bad Wolf for their early "shots" of Ninja. As we know, that wasn't even a Six Flags ride. Eric
eddie200330 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I could understand if it is a new attraction and you have nothing to go by, but for an established chain, that almost comes off as false advertising. A GP might see the KD commercial and go there looking for a ride that was shown as Vortex from KI. This could create a very disappointing time for said GP. As a kid before the internet came along that is how I planned on which parks to go to. What they advertised on TV or what was in printed material I requested from the parks. If I didn't know any better and seen in the ad where this cool looking ride was shown and got to the park only to find it is hundreds of miles away in a completely different park, I might be a little upset.........
Lenaapple1974 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 ^ Most marketing materials are released before the rides are built. It's hard to have pictures of a ride before it exists. But now it is four years old! I would give them a picture I took for free if necessary. You would think that they would eventually change it to reflect the actual coaster. Especially one rated so high.

Zack44 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Gotta admit, I'd rather see a picture of another coaster than a picture of that god-awful Stride Gum train going through a cycle on the parks' official website. And this isn't even the only time this kind of thing happened; when they we're advertising for Bizarro last year, they just had footage from the SFNE Bizarro instead. Fuh-hail!
GLund Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 At Knott's Halloween Haunt the main entrance has a sign with the dates of Haunt nights and they mark them off as the month goes by. Above the dates there was a banner for Haunt, and there was a picture of one coaster--I305 in the background and I was like, hmmmm, I don't think that ride is in this park...
SoCalCoasters Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 All the Cedar Fair "Ride Warrior" commercials have different rides than the ones at the park in the ad... ie. CGA commercial had Ghost Rider as Grizzly.....I wish!
mightbeawannabe Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 ^Kinda like they had the Beast at KI as the stand in for Prowler. I swear something is wrong!
