Zoominator Posted March 15, 2007 Share Posted March 15, 2007 I think the last coaster I rode was the Flitzer at Morey's Piers in Wildwood. It was either that or the Doo Wopper. (I rode them both on the same evening.) Wish I went on the Sea Serpent but I didn't have the courage yet. Never went on a coaster that had inversions yet. I do plan to go on at least 1 this summer... It will be painted a "tropical coral with matching accent colors."(Direct Quote from park itself). It will probably match the new sign: . I think they will add a new coaster in the area where Steel Venom and X-Flight once stood. I have hopes for this park to become great again. Darien Laker Posted March 19, 2007 Share Posted March 19, 2007 I guess Dorney would be a good place for this since they have no launched coaster....as well as not having a shuttle coaster either. That park has a pretty good line-up and this would only complement it. I do somewhat feel bad for the people that go to Geauga regularly. These were two of the better steel coasters in the park, and now the only good steelie they have is Dominator (Assuming Head Spin and Thunderhawk are as bad as Darien Lake's version of the two.) The ones we do have are getting some much needed TLC like Headspin getting repainted to a 50's theme, Villian being refurbished, and Thunderhawk getting on-ride videos. I've been dying to have an impulse coaster closer to here and I'm thrilled that it's finally happening. People in this area have never seen anything like it and I'm sure it will be a hit. Also, there's a 99.9% chance that it will be Steel Vemom. This is all according to Screamscape and a local newspaper article below. Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom is getting a new roller coaster for the 2008 season, and amusement-park fans think they know which one it is. Last week, the South Whitehall park got township approval for minor zoning changes that will allow it to build a coaster. By comparison, Dorney's Dominator free-fall thrill ride is 200 feet tall. Representatives of Dorney and Dorney's parent company, Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., declined to comment today. Cedar Fair does not plan to release 2008 capital spending plans for Dorney until October at the earliest, spokeswoman Stacy Frole said. But coaster buffs believe they already know the scoop. A theory making the rounds of fan-operated Web sites such as Screamscape.com and DorneyOnline.com says Cedar Fair is going to move a coaster called Steel Venom to Dorney from Geauga Lake, a Cleveland-area park. Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake from rival park operator Six Flags in 2004. Steel Venom is a U-shaped ride in which riders go up and down "spikes," or tall towers, on each side. One of the spikes stands straight up, while the other corkscrews. Riders sit strapped into open seats, not closed cars. The ride reaches a top speed of 70 miles per hour, according to online roller coaster databases. Cedar Fair officials have confirmed Steel Venom is leaving Geauga Lake for another park. They have not said where it will go or when it will reopen. But materials Cedar Fair filed with township commissioners suggest Dorney is either getting Steel Venom or an identical ride. The photo Cedar Fair used to illustrate the planned coaster shows a U-shaped ride with one straight spike and one twisted spike -- just like Steel Venom. Steel Venom draws its power from a linear induction motor, just like the new Dorney ride. Steel Venom's listed height of 180 feet roughly matches that of the ride proposed here. Mark Rosenzweig Posted June 17, 2007 Share Posted June 17, 2007 Got unconfirmed news today that Raging Wolf Bobs at Geauga Lake derailed either late yesterday or early today. Supposadly the ride is done for the year and somewhat serious train and track damage took place- it was the last car of one of the two trains that derailed bringing the train to a slow, grinding hault in one of the ride's mid course turnarounds. ??? -Mark Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
