The Yeti Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 ^It's very interesting that Joker is spinning significantly less than Batman at SFFT according to some reports I've heard. Nonetheless, it's in a great location and has a cool theme. I can't wait to ride it this summer as it still seems much more comfortable than Green Lantern at SFMM. Doesn't the park have the ability to adjust the fins so it can flip more or less often? I assume it is not something that could be changed throughout the day, but I'd be interested in seeing if that changes at all throughout the season. If I'm wrong, then hopefully I get a wildly unbalanced ride resulting in more flips when I visit.

They would somehow have to adjust the fins on the trains themselves as the strips mounted on the track seem to be permanent. I may be wrong, though.
Physical Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 If S&S designed them to allow adjustment (I'm not sure if they did or not, just speculating) then I would assume it'd be modular. Just pop the fins out and swap them with higher intensity ones or something.
coasterbill Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 ^ I don't know what you are talking about since I haven't ridden it, but it can't possibly be worse than the autospiel raps on Stinger & the Wild Mouse at Dorney! How dare you bad mouth Stingers autospiel! That was the greatest ride speech in history. Shame it's gone now. They got rid of it? We only rode it once last year @ Coasting 4 Kids and it was on then. And to the poster above asking about park strategy on Thurs/Fri in June - Coasterbill and Strz nailed it basically. If its busy with school kids, they are all going to be trying to ride Joker, Ka, and Superman. If you want to hit the must-dos go Ka (though if its not running or they are taking forever to get it going, skip and come back after the school buses leave (5pm usually), Zumi, El Toro, Bizarro, Mine Train, Skyride over to Nitro, Batman and Skull Mountain. I'd save Joker and Superman (and Ka if its being cranky in the morning) if you want to ride those for evening, after the buses leave. And I'm not sure I wanna live in a world where Bill is not suggesting the Log Flume in a post on how to do the park. What the hell is going on? Oh believe me, when I visit a park I always make the flume a priority. I just know that most people have terrible taste and won't listen to me anyway. Lol I can't help people that won't help themselves.

Rayj Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I plan on visiting great adventure in the next couple of weeks. I have a Six Flags America gold membership pass and I was wondering if I could use it on their bring-a-friend for free days (btw what are the dates?). Also, do I get free parking too? Or can I only use it at my home park?

Or can I only use it at my home park? I have a gold pass from SFNE and I went to SFGadv in April.... Parking was free.. just flash the pass and it gets you in. As for the Bring A Friend free days, if you have the six flags app you can view the restrictions, it will tell you if its only good in your park or which other parks it is good in.
coasterbill Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I found some great information on that here and here.

I'm not very well read up on exactly how these S&S FreeSpiners actually work. Edit: Read up a bit, based on what I read it seems the magnets dictate how much (or how little) spinning the car does. Apparently it doesn't freewheel, so weight shouldn't play too big of a role, though I'd imagine it effects the ride to some extent.
TBpony414 Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 And I'm not sure I wanna live in a world where Bill is not suggesting the Log Flume in a post on how to do the park. What the hell is going on? Oh believe me, when I visit a park I always make the flume a priority. I just know that most people have terrible taste and won't listen to me anyway. Lol I can't help people that won't help themselves. I was at the park Monday evening for less than 90 minutes and got on: Joker - 2x, one purple and one green. Purple was fun and didn't flip much. We flipped like crazy on the green side and then I threw in the towel. Harley Quinn's crazy train - 1x Nitro - 1x Sky Ride El Toro - 3x Went back yesterday/Tuesday for several hours and the place was slammed with school kids and slow operations. Hit the safari first - can't stress enough how AMAZING the safari is!!! I took unbelievable photos and had the best safari trip yet with very active animals but don't have them on my computer yet. Bailey the baby bear cub is getting huge and she was putting on quite a show for us. I fed the giraffes and felt it was well worth the $5 for passholders. Our safari guide Natasha was phenomenal and her enthusiasm and knowledge base was out of this world! After the safari we were sweating bullets. "Let's ride the log flume!" Waited 45 minutes to get on it and while we were loading our log I saw a few people unloading who looked pretty wet. Stupid school kids splashing themselves, surely! Except they were seriously soaked so that was concerning. As we crested the first hill the attendant was waving wildly and laughed, "Are you guys ready to get WET!!!!???!?" Uhh, wait what? Log flumes are for spritzing only! Right?!? The water was higher than I've ever seen it and I almost thought our log might bounce right out of the trough. Before we even got to the big hill we were saturated like drowned rats. Tidal Force at HersheyPark produces less splash than Sawmill F-U Rapids did yesterday. As a log flume enthusiast and also someone who can't tolerate wet socks/shoes, this put quite a damper on my night and 2 hours later I was still squishing around the park. Used my dining pass for chicken fingers and a milkshake by Toro, then ended the day with 3 magic seat rides on Toro (Ryan and his crew were doing a great job as usual!) and drove back home to DC. TL;DR: Joker is ok, Safari is mandatory, Log flume 2016 will try to kill you.
coasterbill Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Lol wow, hopefully it won't be running like that all season. By the way, were they pairing groups of 2 with other groups? They did that last year which I've never seen on a Log Flume before. I absolutely hated that policy.
boldikus Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 The few times Ive ridden the flume the last couple of years I've been with one other person (once Tom, once another friend) and we were always put in with another group of 2 or 3 people. Lame.

boldikus Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I can understand no single riders on a flume because thats just stupid for capacity. But to put 4-5 people that dont know each other sitting in each others laps is a little overkill.

michaellynn4 Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Sawmill F-U Rapids I don't know about y'all, but I have a new name for the log flume from now on!
Password121 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 My buddy and I were paired with a nice Amish family of either three or four last year. It was quite a scene and he gave me this hilarious "wtf..." look, but it was pretty uncomfortable just trying to hold your legs and body uprig and compact the entire time to avoid running against a group of strangers. Nothing wrong with improving capacity in a Six Flags park, but come on... three adults and 2 or 3 kids?
TBpony414 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I'll try to get the pics up of Bailey and some of the other animals but no promises. Here I am with my new buddy Conan and keeper Ashley. I cannot for the life of me remember the other giraffe's name!!! Does anyone know? There were 4 of them at the feeding station: Conan, ?, Taco and Mariah. It's driving me crazy. Even though I have a horse it was still really fun to meet giraffes face to face! Lol wow, hopefully it won't be running like that all season. By the way, were they pairing groups of 2 with other groups? They did that last year which I've never seen on a Log Flume before. I absolutely hated that policy. Seriously, bring a wetsuit and fins because you'll need it. I rode with my sneakers up on the bench for hills 2 and 3 and even that didn't help. The log troughs were filled up almost to the top and they must have had the current turned up to freaking 11 because we were flying. I usually support things turned up to 11 but not in this case. We aren't whales by any stretch of the imagination and were paired up with a skinny dad and his young daughter who I talked about the safari to for the entire ride, lol. Unless it was a boat of small children I don't think we could have been much lighter. They were having logs go out with 3-5 people in them which I normally hate but actually supported in this case because they had so few logs running. The queue was barely full compared to how it can get in the summer and it took freaking forever to get on the ride. Normally we have 3 people in our group when we go up to GAdv and get to ride just us. This photo doesn't even begin to show how drenched we got, with me taking more of it since I was in the front. My whole upper and lower body were soaked like I jumped in a swimming pool. The only reason my pants are dry in a few spots is because of how I had my legs up and tucked like an armadillo for the drops. I went to the bathroom after, took off my shirt and was able to wring it - and my fanny pack - out like people do after rapids rides. I prefer not to wear clothes that drip as much as a school janitor's mop. Mom, always a positive thinker, still thought it was a bright idea to ride it especially bc we were so hot before. My expression and hand gesture is not in any way exaggerated. In fact, the man taking our photo asked me to lighten up a little. Lieutenant Dan would have keeled over at how wet my shoes and socks were! F-U Falls
strz Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Got home at 6:30pm tonight, and my son said, "Do you want to head over to GA?" Of course! Positive: - pulled right into preferred parking - quick entry - grabbed a braided pretzel on our way to Nitro - Dippin' Dots near El Tango was open tonight Challenges: - The Joker wasn't running - Got to Nitro at 7:10pm, and it was stack city, thus took WAY too much time for us to get on, especially being up against an 8pm closing! (not sure why trains were stacking so badly) - Batman wasn't running - High tailed it to El Toro, and a one train wait! Then a technical breakdown! Waited for about 10 minutes, and it was 7:45pm, so opted to squeeze in dinner vs. getting a ride on the bull Bottom line- one ride + dinner, oh well! Beats sitting at home..... That said- good night to be a Senior if you like SFGA (parked closed at 8pm, and reopened from 9pm- 1am tonight for "Seniors only" (and no, not senior citizens!)
boldikus Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I take full responsibility for missing this but YESTERDAY WAS SKULL MOUNTAIN's 20th BIRTHDAY!!!! Opened June 3rd, 1996. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE KING OF JUNIOR COASTERS, BOW DOWN TO THE SKULL. Crank up the metal and fire up the strobes!

boldikus Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 ^ Not usually, but you can pay $10 extraa dollars for PP if you have season parking. I've done it a few times. Its only paying $10 to park a few feet from the gate. Sometimes its worth it.
strz Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 After a certain time you can just pull straight into preferred parking? ^^^^^^^^^^^^ I showed up at 7pm last night, and there was no one manning the gate/entry, and loads of people exiting the park, so I said, "what the heck?" I wasn't trying to "cheat" SGFA out of revenue- instead, want to boogie into the park ASAP!
