I can't believe people actually think that this is a UFO.

I worked at KD last fall and I saw the smoke ring quite a few times. It is very strange looking and I was a little freaked out when I first saw it, but once you figure out what it is it makes sense. It's not a very uncommon occurrence.

Not to be rude, but how does smoke stay like that for 10 minutes? Wouldn't the wind blow it away after a couple of seconds?

I don't know exactly how it does that... I have a feeling it has something to do with what they use to produce the smoke. It's definitely not your average smoke. Perhaps there is an additive in it that keeps the smoke together and therefore more visible. Sure, if there lots of wind it'll blow the smoke apart, but if there is only a very slight breeze (1-2 mph I would guess) then the ring stays together.

This is all just a guess, but rest assured that it's not a UFO.

Here is an explanation of what that "UFO" actually is...

They undoubtedly rank amongst the most eccentric sky phenomena on the planet: the metres-wide rings of vapour or smoke that can be seen floating through the air on occasion.

The physics behind these "vortex rings" is very complex. Moreover, vortex rings do not always form in the same way. In most instances, the rings are formed by air mixed with smoke or steam that is forced out of a (relatively) small circular or cylindrical opening (this can be a chimney, the barrel of a canon, or a vent in a volcano crater). Because of the drag of the surface of the opening, the air expelled from the centre will move faster than the air exiting the opening near the edge. The air from the sides is sucked in, and a circular motion is created. In this way, a doughnut-shaped vortex is formed, just like a smoke ring that is blown from a smoker's lips. The ring-shape is maintained due to the rotational motion of the air flowing in the vortex ring.

I can believe its an Intamin, but I dont think wee going to be seeing anything over 250 feet right now. I dont see CF investing in something of the 300-400 ft magnitude for Kings Dominion.

I also have no idea why they would take those supports away and then bring the track in. I HIGHLY doubt they would send them to the wrong park, and they wouldnt unload them if they were just stopping before they got to Carowinds/another park. My guess is that something was wrong with them and they need to be replaced.

^I can believe it .. kings dominion has alot of competition its closest neighbor got national attention with the dive coaster concept and constantly noted as a beautiful park.... the other neighbor although no where close in ratings still has a good selection of rides with different experiences.... where KD only offers launched, wood out n back, and loops nothing else. So I think if height is where this ride is going... CF will want to make all others on the east coast bow ... I think they can do this by going to a giga coaster.... no point in stopping at 250 might as well go the extra 50. Intamin is one to push the limits if they were going to stay with 200' - 250' range they would've went with B&M (Don't you think)

NO!

Seriously, every single sign points to this being an Intamin at this point. What makes you think it is a Vekoma as of now?

I can't believe people thought that "UFO" was news worthy, slow news day...

In a follow up to my earlier post, it seems that someone over at CWMania.com has indeed seen the supports that seem to be the ones that showed up at KD at Canada's Wonderland...

I am curious, has any more pieces at KD shown up yet?

Here is a link to the CWMania forum topic...

Track has shown up at KD. If supports are showing up at CW then it's for a different ride. I'd also want to see photos of the supports that are showing up in Canada prior to taking this rumor seriously.
