cfc
^I've only been on RCCL, but aside from a few upcharge restaurants, all meals are included (as is the onboard entertainment). It's usually pretty clear what's an upcharge and what isn't.
robbalvey
How do cruises really work out? What I mean is...are the meals included (free) with the tickets you buy? Also, are the movies, entertainment and all free? That's kind of a big question... But the "short" answer is that, yes, everything you mentioned is included, and usually in unlimited portions. The ships DO have upcharge restaurants in addition to the included dining rooms, buffets, etc. Alcohol is also an upcharge. And soda on most ships is also extra. But there are packages you can buy that make it very cheaper (or at least cheaper.)
Sir Clinksalot
Robb's rant reminds me of the attitude of a lot of Disneyland assholders. I know you've experienced those as well Robb.
DirkFunk
You obviously didn't quite "get" what I was saying and took a more analytical route to "prove me wrong." Whatever. I hope you're happy with yourself. OK. I just disagree with the premise that NCL didn't "change the game" in the respect of making "anytime dining" and upcharge restaurants part of the mass market line experience. Here's the reality check that you need, dude... Personally, we could also afford that butler, as can many others here, but some of us just choose to spend our dollars differently. We've done suites, we've done first class, etc, here's an eye opener for you - THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU A BETTER PERSON!!!! Or, if we DO spend those dollars on expensive cabins or whatever, we don't go around calling everyone else "average people", because that's REALLY f**cked up. We're average people in above average cabin classes, at least in my mind. Does it make me a better person? No. But that doesn't invalidate how I feel about a particular part of NCL's "product". It wouldn't be different if I had only sailed Celebrity on the Xpedition. If having a zip line or the Aqua Theater is something you want more than the specialty breakfast/lunch that several cruise lines offer cruise pax, then like I said - your money is better spent on RCCL. Let's put this another way - you offer an upscaled product for coaster tours, right? The average person probably won't ride High Five with it dueling. You can make that happen. Does that mean that people who go on your tour have an above average experience? I'm sure. And that's why you charge money to do what you do, and that's great. How do cruises really work out? What I mean is...are the meals included (free) with the tickets you buy? Also, are the movies, entertainment and all free? The mass market lines geared towards US passengers include meals in the dining room and food in most venues, virtually entertainment on board, entry to ports (only a couple exceptions globally), and whatever beverages are offered for free (water, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, sometimes milk). There are minor exceptions to this rule; casinos, theme cruises with closed entertainment venues for those particular passengers, docking in Russia, things like that. The more you pay, the more the cruise generally comes with. The far high end of the market generally includes airfare from most major gateways, all alcohol, all alternative dining venues, shore excursions (to a point), and so on. robbalvey
^ People aren't obnoxious towards other people about our tours when they write a report. If they were, I personally wouldn't let them on one of our tours. In fact, we did have someone on one of our tours this year that thought they were above everyone else. That person will not be allowed on any more TPR tours. I'm done responding to you now, your choice of words are just so pompous and disgusting I can't take it anymore. So I would kindly ask that you don't post anymore about this. You're really pissing me off. Edited October 22, 2012 by robbalvey

CreativeForce
We're spending New Year's on a Cruise!! Just booked the Navigator of the Seas out of New Orleans on Dec. 29th. So, has anyone done a New Year's eve cruise? This is our first time doing a "holiday" on board a ship and was wondering if we could expect anything out of the ordinary? I'm guessing that one of the formal evenings will be on the 31st and of course we always dress up for that, but should I consider getting a tux or is that too much? Very excited to be doing this! Just hope a renagade tidal wave doesn't hit us!
DirkFunk
It isn't 1985 anymore, Creative. Lots of people carely bother with formal night, and those who do in a 2-3 piece suit are plenty dressed up enough.

"This isn't 1985 anymore..." WTF is with that? There was no need for the snarky remark as the rest of your comment was just fine without it. That being said, to *actually* answer CreativeForce's question without being rude and obnoxious, we've been on an RCCL ship for New Years, they do a champagne toast, usually the captain comes out, and people ARE dressed up. You don't *have* to wear a tux, but you wouldn't be out of place wearing one. --Robb

Every cruise I've been on (and the last one was just this summer in the Mediterranean) people dress up for formal night. At least a coat and tie. Those that don't want to, just stay away from the formal dining room that night. I'll try to use small words so that you can understand; Some people actually LIKE to dress up occasionally. We are one of them. And 1985? I'm sorry, was there some sort of decree passed then that formal evenings are to be ignored? Or was that just the last time you decided to wear your clip on tie out? CreativeForce
Thanks for the info Robb. And I'm sorry if I overstepped my bounds with my own snarky remarks back. Rebecca and I are really excited about this trip and his remark really just left a sour taste. I don't know how you deal with people like this all the time and not go off on a rant every few minutes. They come out a lot, especially around spring break and summer when the college kids are coming aboard more often. I work backstage and try to avoid guest areas and I STILL see those shirts everywhere, hahaha.
robbalvey
Oh, Carnival.... http://www.nbcnews.com/travel/woman-who-jumped-overboard-cruise-ship-rescued-1C6601763 A Carnival cruise ship passenger who was spotted jumping overboard was rescued Sunday, company officials said. The 29-year-old woman was aboard the Carnival Destiny, which had left the Port of Miami on Saturday, when she was witnessed jumping overboard around 12:10 a.m., according to a statement from the company. The ship immediately began search and rescue operations and located the woman. She was brought on board and treated at the ship's medical center. Ship physicians determined the woman needed further treatment at a shoreside facility and the Destiny deviated its course to Key West instead of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The ship, which is on a five-day Caribbean cruise, is scheduled to return on Thursday.

Meteornotes
After spending a week on a Carnival ship, I get why someone would jump overboard. She was probably looking for something to eat that wasn't food rejected by Golden Corral for "quality standards". dt

OISU8P
In regards to late night buffets on cruises. Is anyone aware of any line that has a late night breakfast \ omelet bar? I would love to be able to get breakfast after having a few beers in the evening on one of the decks.
robbalvey
^ Hmmm.... I don't think I've seen breakfast served at a night time buffet. And keep in mind, on many ships, the buffet closes at like 10 or 11pm, so your options are whatever small "24 hour" food they have. Most ships have like pizza, sandwiches, etc, after midnight (unless there is a midnight buffet going on, which on most 7 day cruises happens on one of the nights), or there is always room service. robbalvey
^ Last I heard they were going to work on lifting it up, patching it up, and sailing it to someplace they could dismantle the ship and sell it for scrap. Anyone heard anything differently? I just hope once they get it lifted up, someone takes video of walking through the ship after it's been half-submerged for a year! Yuk!!!!
