jray21
Boo! That's where Nobu is. That place needs to stay open! dt It better not close! That is one of the greatest restaurants!

chadster
That place barely qualifies as a casino by today's standards. Tables and Slots are few, not a lot of variety and cramped. The best part of the Hard Rock is the pool.
Jew
Hard Rock was the first to tap into the "trendy" crowd with modern rooms, nightclubs, music, etc. Followed by the Palms. Then all the casinos on the strip caught up with their own "megaclubs" and "pool clubs." So now both Hard Rock and Palms (which is also in financial trouble...don't be surprised if the Maloofs sell) are screwed. Bad locations and nothing to draw guests anymore. DJeXeL
Hard Rock was actually a decent hotel. Sad to say the least. As long as you aren't staying at the Imperial Palace you'll be OK.
SharkTums
^^I totally agree with you about the location thing. I never understood how Rio has survived all these years. When I go to Vegas I don't leave the strip if at all possible.

jray21
^^They really do! Their seafood buffet is my favorite dinner/lunch buffet anywhere. That is the one thing I will actually leave the strip for. Ok, so I've also left for the ocean spray factory tour and the marshmallow factory tour as well. As for the best breakfast buffet, that is hands down the Paris buffet. It was incredible. Crap, now I'm hungry again.
DJeXeL
The Flamingo also has a notable breakfast/brunch buffet. They also have a $30 "all you can eat" wristband deal that includes 5 buffets (Rio , Flamingo, Caesers Palace and 2 others) for 24hrs. Great deal. How is the Palms? I've never been. Meteornotes
Regular sit down restaurants > buffets. Not even a competition. Just the fact alone that terrible humans can come in off the street and put their hands in the food eliminates any buffet from being good ever. Best breakfast in Vegas is still Bouchon. dt
ParkTrips
^ I fully enjoyed our gut-busting Wynn buffet. And the price tag kept out the Vegas trash!
Ace Of Spades
Every time I read this thread, I think about how sad it is that I live here and yet everything you guys talk about sounds so foreign to me. Hell, I haven't been down to the Strip in at least five months... That's like living on Long Island and not going to Manhattan for five months, or Anaheim and not going to Disneyland or Knott's for five months. Best breakfast in Vegas is still Bouchon. dt As a former resident of Vegas I will say that I've had much better food at the Wynn, Bellagio and Paris buffets than I have at many of the full service sit down restaurants there. FeelTheFORCE
^ I fully enjoyed our gut-busting Wynn buffet. And the price tag kept out the Vegas trash! Same with the Rio. It's around $40 a person. These aren't your local $8.25 Chinese buffets down the street that are all picked through. They are famous, renown buffets that are constantly refreshed. BeemerBoy
^ That, plus the show in the sky, Chippendales, and they also host the WSOP. Caesars Entertainment owns the World Series of Poker brand, and they own and operate the Rio. I imagine they could easily move the WSOP to Caesars Palace if need be, since it's the only hotel/casino on the strip that has hosted a WSOP circuit event. FeelTheFORCE
They could, but I don't see why they would. The Rio might end up struggling like the Palms if that happened. The WSOP is probably one of the main things that attract people to the Rio. Caesar's Palace might not necessarily need something like that, considering they're in a fairly prime location. Elissa's original comment was "I never understood how Rio has survived all these years." I was simply naming possibilities as to why.

BeemerBoy
^ The flip side is that there's still plenty of terrible, pissed off humans handling our food in sit down restaurants too. I think you roll the dice no matter where you eat these days. ^^ Yeah, I know you were. It's all good. if need be I was just suggesting worst case scenario strategy. The WSOP is obviously the worldwide attention grabber for the property, and Caesars Entertainment surely has no plans to relocate the event or sell off the Rio anytime soon. BUT, things can change. In the long run though, I think the Rio has more upside than the once trendy, chic Palms.
Jew
I think the Rio has survived because it was the first "all-suite" hotel and still offers dirt cheap rates for suites. The WSOP has only been at the Rio since 2005.
chadster
With all of the code violations at the Rio during their "remodel" I'm surprised it's still standing. One thing most have probably forgot about is the add-on they did to house the WSOP. I could be wrong, but I don't think any of the Ceasar's properties on the strip have the sq footage and required NGCB setup to host it. What I'm really shocked to see is the Aliante Station still around, over built like Red Rock IMHO. Of course in the end, the brothers managed to drive the company to bankruptcy. Twister II
It was creepy how dead that place was on a Friday afternoon - good riddance though. One of the most disappointing casinos in Vegas. How many times have you been to Hard Rock? Have you been to Hard Rock more than once? That's a very strong statement to say - that it's the most disappoint casino - I would hate to hear what you have to say about Imperial Palace or Casino Royal. I use to live across the street for a year, only saw it under normal capacity in the casino....once. Maybe twice. I dont think people here realize that hotels that are just off the strip (Hard Rock, Palms, Rio, and even places like Wyndham, Rumor, Marriot) are all at the same occupancy as hotels on the strip. If Aria has 75% occupancy, Hard Rock may be around 74%. I have not heard anything about Hard Rock being in financial trouble. After all, they just opened up their spa, Rehab starts in less than 2 months, Real World is just wrapping up filming and will bring in tons of business for the hotel. Hard Rock Hotels as a brand, maybe... Few things about Rio. Rio has been picking up a lot recently with their nightclubs. Crown nightclub is becoming a premier spot to been seen. Same for VooDoo Lounge. The advertising that's getting pumped out is loading up radio frequencies. Personally, I did not like Rio's seafood buffet. I've been twice and it just seems like everything was sitting out for so long - nasty. Here is my personal ratings for buffets: 1) M Resort - $20 for awesome service, awesome food made fresh in front of you. Even sushi! You get a buffet pass when you see the Tila Martini cooking show too. 2) Aria - Beautiful everywhere you look. 3) Flamingo - I went for breakfast/brunch. 4) Harrahs - Last time I went to Flavors was a few years ago, a lot of selection. Ive been hearing recently it's been going down... 5) Rio - See above 6) MGM Grand - really did not have a good experience here. With employees and with the food. Also, remember whats ever in the buffet is also going down into the employee dining room! (EDR). For best EDR's I've heard Wynn and Palazzo/Venetian. ParkTrips
I expect IP/Circus Circus/etc to be dumps - I thought Hard Rock would be pretty cool, and I did not like the vibe much at all. Just because it's not the worst doesn't mean it can't still be a disappointment!

Hard Rock Hotels as a brand, maybe... I assume you missed the article I just posted? They spent $1.36 billion dollars on the two new towers and are now unable to cover the debt. Probably because Hard Rock (and the Palms for that matter) have very little left to offer that the strip doesn't, but still continue to charge Strip rates for the rooms and suites. Rehab isn't going to save them with so many other pool clubs now open on the strip. Edited February 4, 2011 by Jew
