The Vegas Thread!

I am sure one of the Vegas pros will answer this but I stayed at Caesar's a few years ago and it was really nice and I liked being in such a central location. Our room was pretty good sized, not sure of the cost because I didn't pay. We didn't go to any clubs there but did finish a long night off at one of their bars, which turned out to be fun. I do remember us thinking there seemed to be a lot of old people there and when we checked out the topless pool , the sagging we saw verified that. I did get to meet Oprah there and also had the most embarassing moment of my life there, but I would stay there again.

I actually think Caesar's is over priced for what it is. The "Classic" and "Roman Tower" rooms are outdated (tube TV, small, etc.), and while all the deluxe and above rooms are nice...they are still small by modern vegas standards. You're better off paying a little more for Wynn or Encore and getting WAY better service and a much bigger standard room.

^^Oh nursemelis374 do tell us, what happened in Vegas that rated as the most embarrassing moment of your life? (I'll assume that it involved a lack of sleep + alcohol + I'm on vacation so what the hell attitude)

As for Caesar's, I stayed there many years back and enjoyed my time. Though the actual casino is a bit of a walking distance from the strip, (without going through the shopping promenade) the hotel itself is near many other fun properties.

I never actually considered the Wynn or Encore because of there location. Is it really that far away? There are monorails and the alike I guess?

^It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Harrah's monorail station from the Wynncore property. If location and not "ghetto" is all you want, stay at Mirage. Same thing for less money.

Joey have you given up on your cross state excursions into the land of Sin and Debauchery?

Are you walking the straight and narrow line, while spending your Friday nights reading the Tanakh?

It's time for a Vegas run!

(Maybe you could take those Adventurous Alveys along with you)

Haven't given up. Just trying to save up for TPR's Oktoberfest trip. And work. And pay my other bills.

Never fear though, a Vegas trip is in the works. I want to make sure I have enough money to gamble, try a new pricier restaurant, and stay at a new/nice hotel (thinking Aria Sky Suites this time).

And I will definitely be going for the grand opening of the Cosmopolitan! They announced their grand opening as December 15th.

The rooms with balconies look really cool. A strip view balcony is a rarity in Vegas.

Leaving for Vegas on Saturday morning with my parents and aunt for our now annual trip...although this year there's only 4 of us going compared to the 10 last year.

We're staying at the Wynn and seeing Viva Elvis our first night there.

On the 30th (last night there) I'll be seeing Recycled Percussion's first show at Club 54 at MGM from VIP Row A seats 1 and 2.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/27/10-people-overcome-fumes-mgm-grand-pools-lazy-rive/

bout 100 people were treated for breathing difficulties after excessive amounts of chlorine leaked into the lazy river at the MGM Grand pool area.

Richard Brenner, hazardous materials coordinator for the Clark County Fire Department, said 26 people were taken to five Las Vegas area hospitals, all of whom were conscious and alert. He said injuries were minor and no one became unconscious.

Brenner estimated that 1,500 people were at the pool area about 1:30 p.m. when it was evacuated. He said fire department crews treated about 100 people to determine whether they needed hospital care, Brenner said.

The water in the lazy river – which is not connected to the resort’s other pools – became over-chlorinated after a pump likely malfunctioned, Brenner said. A chlorine gas began evaporating off the water, filling the pool area with the noxious smell, he said.

“What it does is cause respiratory distress,” he said. “It’s hard for you to breathe … The only way to get it out is by breathing it out.”

Brenner said guests at the pool began to smell the chlorine, prompting MGM Grand to start the evacuation. Those who were overcome by the fumes were treated by breathing in large amounts of oxygen, Brenner said.

“They use sodium hypochlorite (to chlorinate water in the pools),” he said. “That’s bleach. That’s what they inject into the lazy river.”

No one will suffer long-term health effects from the brief exposure, Brenner said.

He said the leak appeared to be the result of an equipment failure as opposed to human error. He credited the MGM Grand’s staff with responding quickly and shutting off the valve.

MGM Resorts International spokesman Gordon Absher said the incident occurred after an injector valve on the chlorination system got stuck in the “on” position. The valve immediately was closed when noticed, Absher said.

MGM Grand’s pool complex spans 6.6 acres and includes five separate pools and the 1,000-foot lazy river.

Separate from the main pool area is WET Republic, a 53,000-square-foot adult pool complex. The pools are located at the rear of the property near the resort's convention center.

Sara Reaney, 26, of Dublin, Ireland, was at WET Republic with friends when the area was evacuated. She said the scene was organized and calm.

“The DJ just stopped and they told everybody to get out,” she said. “They just gave everybody passes for tomorrow.”

She said she and her friends, who are in town for a bachelorette party, probably would return to the pools this weekend.

The MGM Grand pool area was reopened at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

"We obviously do regular maintenance on our pools and water cleaning system," he said. "This was a malfunctioning valve. It was not because of a lack of maintenance."

Those who were hospitalized were taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center, University Medical Center, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Spring Valley Hospital and St. Rose Dominican Hospitals - San Martin campus.

The Las Vegas Fire and Rescue hazardous materials team assisted Clark County firefighters.

Metro Police closed Audrie Street between Harmon Avenue and the MGM Grand valet as emergency crews arrived.

I blame MGM for "douching" the pool area by adding WET Republic.

Some random photo highlights from my recent trip.

Got to finally ride Speed at the Sahara. Got the all day pass and rode it 3 times; great ride.

Saw the Viva Elvis show at Aria. Very different from the other Cirque shows I've seen, but I was really impressed.

Ate at Pinks for the first time. Planet Hollywood Dog was awesome...Polish sausage with fried onions, mushrooms, cheese, and bacon.

Got to go on stage with Recycled Percussion for answering a trivia question right.

Lying by the Wynn pool reading my Scott Pilgrim books and drinking $15 frozen drinks is probably one of my new favorite ways to spend part of my day.

And probably best of all: We didn't have to pay for our room at the Wynn

Can't wait for next year.

I don't like how all of a sudden, Vegas resorts are starting to, "modernize". The Luxor doesn't even look Egyptian! Though I love modern architecture, the modern/urban themes for Vegas resorts are getting so reptitive. Can't they come up with another good old themed resort?

I can't wait for my Vegas trip in the fall! I'm going to see Town Square, M Resort, and visit family!

So Steve Wynn is now vegan, and he is advocating that all of his restaurants at the Wynn and Encore have a vegan menu. Pretty sweet. The one 3 course menu is $80, but I'll be sure to try it out. I'm really excited to head back to Vegas in March just because of this!

I just read this post and thought Steve Wynn has lost his mind in demanding that the restaurants have all vegan menus. He is actually mandating vegan options on all menus, a much more sound business choice.

$80 for a three course vegan menu?

That $80 can pay for a few full meals at the Go Raw Cafe

Maybe if it was at one of Joël Robuchon's restaurants I'd pay it.

I just stayed at the Wynn during Halloween.(What a Freak-show night that was)

But, when we ate at a Wynn restaurant, they specifically mentioned to us that 'Mr Wynn' was now a vegan and that All of the restaurants at his resort offered vegan menu options. I told our waitress that's great news, now bring me a nice tasty burger with some apple smoked bacon...Hmmmm,Thank You it was delicious.

But, if vegan is what your after, then I'm sure this incredible resort (which I highly recommend) is your place to stay. I myself will certainly be visiting it again within the next year.

I will be looking forward to Joeys report from the Cosmopolitian, because I visited the City Center during my visit and what I saw looked amazing!
