When I woke up this morning and turned on the news, my heart dropped. Like, how many more innocent people have to lose their lives before something is done to stop all these mass shootings??

It has definitely been a hard couple days here. The strip has had an eerie quietness about it, but it has been very comforting to see the city come together around this and also to receive the support from so many outside of the city.

 

It was a weird feeling driving into work the next morning and seeing the two windows smashed on Mandalay Bay and knowing what had happened only 12 hours earlier. The whole thing has been hard on everyone in town. We are a city of 2 million but it still feels very small, everyone is taking it pretty hard. But we still show up to work, put a smile on our faces, and help our guests. Luckily I haven't run into any assholes that want to make light of it, but apparently there are quite a few.

Vegas was a 2nd home to me growing up. I remember camping at the old Hacienda campground where Mandalay Bay is now and despite the fact that I feel that it has lost its charm from when it was much smaller, my heart still loves Vegas and all of its people.

New Attraction for Las Vegas! I know, I know, Another Zipline? But this one is at least in an easily accessed location for tourists and at a fun location with a lot of other options including other attractions. I'm a little biased on this one since it's where I work.

Guests are expected to begin their ride experience by taking an elevator designed to provide open strip views from the Vortex at The LINQ Hotel & Casino to the top of the 122-foot-tall launch tower. After enjoying spectacular views of the Strip during the ascent, it is planned that guests will arrive on the launch deck, where queuing and gear-fitting will take place. Riders can choose to ride in either a "superman" or seated position.

 

From the launch tower, the ride continues eastward, traveling 1,080 feet above The LINQ Promenade. Riders disembark near the base of the High Roller. To remember their exhilarating experience, guests will be able to opt to purchase professional photos—either individually or as a group—dressed in full flight gear and in mid-air.

 

Fly LINQ is expected to feature two automated gear retrieval lines that will keep queues moving quickly by swiftly returning gear back to the launch tower. In addition, it is planned to feature an innovative, custom-built automated ride system as well as best-in-class technology developed by global leaders in zipline construction.

 

Fly LINQ is being developed in conjunction with Xventure LV, LLC, a company built by hospitality and attractions industry veterans, delivering the most advanced thrill rides in the most exciting locations imaginable. I've been contemplating going to Vegas to see my alma mater compete in the Ice Vegas Invitational for NCAA hockey. Don't have a huge budget for the trip. Im really put off by the fact that you're quoted a price at whatever hotel and then you need to add $30-50/day for "resort fees" on top of the quoted price. Basically I was looking at packages where these fees were as much as the hotel itself

 

It's a hell of a swindle they got going here with that

That's a great resource to have those all in one place. People are used to an airline ticket not being the final price, and concert tickets too, but a lot of people don't realize that the hotel price isn't what they end up paying. I work for a travel company (part of the reason I can afford to travel to theme parks), and I run across daily scenarios where the guest wasn't aware of the resort fee and didn't bring enough money to cover it. This usually results in the guest, hotel, and travel agency all losing money. I work in accounts payable, so I see the hit everybody takes for not having good information.

Are you driving? There's only a few of those hotels actually on the Strip. Any cost savings might be negated by uber's if you stay too far away.

Allow me to help...

 

Going by the location next to your name, you live in the Chicago area. If you fly from Milwaukee and not Chicago, you can get round trip airfare for $84.18 TOTAL on Frontier Airlines (both are direct flights) that would have you there on January 5th for the Ice Vegas Invitational. Seriously, I just did it. You can play with the dates a little and get equally cheap fares if you want more or less time.

 

 

Then stay at America's Best Value Inn. It's a budget option but it's a block from the heart of the strip and there's no resort fee and the reviews are fine given the price. Book on Kayak and it's $138.27 for the duration of your stay so the total for airfare and the hotel is $222.45. You don't need a rental car in Vegas because that hotel is a block from the heart of the strip. Now THAT's a cheap vacation (well... until you step foot in the casino ).

 

The hotel is within walking distance of the arena. You're also within walking distance of that piece of sh*t New York, New York coaster. You can decide for yourself if that's a negative or a positive.

 

 

On the subject of not having a rental car, here's an important tip: Obviously you'll need to take an uber or cab from the airport. If you take a cab, don't get tunneled. They WILL try to tunnel you (even though that hotel is right off of Paradise by the airport entrance) and will probably blame traffic or some bullsh*t. Tell them to take Paradise and if they don't, threaten to report them to the taxicab authority. This is a major problem in Vegas and they WILL do it if you don't specifically tell them not to.

 

Is it possible for this thread to be moved to the theme parks, roller coasters and donkeys section? Vegas is like a theme park for adults with its rides, shows and unique experiences? And there's been an influx of vegas questions topics popping up (and I would have loved to discover this thread before my trip lol)

 

I second this. We have an Adventuredome discussion thread that gets bumped about once or twice a year. This thread encompasses that, Stratosphere, the High Roller, the cool zipline ride at the Rio, Manhattan Express and Vegas in general (and probably even Desperado and the Buffalo Bill's rides). I'd love to see that merged with this thread and put in the main forum where people know it exists. Just a suggestion, but I love the idea.

Thanks to all that replied. After some deep soul searching, I decided to take a pass. Vegas is one of those trips that I want to do "right" and I know I'll blow by any budget I set. It's not the time or place to be counting every penny...

 

I was just shocked initially that I was looking at a package of hotel AND flights out of MDW for $329 for a strip hotel (Luxor), but would be hit with an additional $135-140... That's an additional 40% before you're even on the ground... And Vegas seems like the kind of place where other Nickel & Dime type stuff would add up very quickly...
