On Friday RatTums was diagnosed with a large tumor that is probably going to kill him within a few weeks. He is still living happy right now, but I will have to bring him back to the vet to be euthanised if he starts to act/look like he's in pain. He's already showing some bad signs, but I won't get into the details here. So everyone think of the little guy who's lived longer than most hamsters (over 2 years!)

BTW, if he dies while Robb is away I'm going to need someone to come over and deal with it because I won't be able to!

I can't help but think seeing something like this would give me a tumor too!

I'm sorry to hear about your beloved pet hamster.

We have all had pets that we adore, that have passed away.

I personally had a Cat named "Calso" who joined my life when I was 8 years old, and I had him until I was 24 years old.

Even though it's been almost 10 years since he passed, I still have many fond memories of him.

Pets are great, I can never understand people who dislike having animals, because I cant imagine life without them.

Awww Elissa,

that sounds so bad! I am so sorry, that RatTums feel ill! I mean he is the most important member of TPR! I really liked the HamsterCam! However, I hope he doesn´t feel any pain!

Very sorry to hear that.

I've had several dogs, hamsters and about 50 gerbils that have passed over the decades. It never gets easier.

Right now my dog of two years was diagnosed w/hip problems. It only seems to be a problem in the winter due to the cold weather. In summer, she is fine and full of life. With her, it was a birth defect. When she is in pain, and you can see it in her eyes, we give her an Ibupropen (sp?) which does the trick pretty good. Of course, she weighs 75 lbs, so medding her is easy.

again, sorry to hear about that, elissa and robb.

take care,

Mark

That sucks. I know how it feels to lose a pet like that though. My cat I had since the 3rd grade died 2 years ago after removing a tumor. The tumor didn't kill her, she passed away during recovery as she was up walking around in her cage looking for me. Sorry to hear that happening.

Elissa, I know this is a very sorrowful time for you and Robb. My heart goes out to you and the big guy and the little guy. Just from the way you have talked about Dear Sweet RatTums on TPR shows us all how much you both Love and Adore him.

I hope that what I say next brings you and Robb a bit of comfort. Even though this is an enormously sad time I ask you to ponder this.

If 2 years ago, on the way home from dinner with Robb, if a voice had spoken into your heart and said "Elissa, I want to give you a most wonderous gift. This gift will bring you an abundance of laughter, an unwavering friendship and will fill your heart with an overflowing love. This gift's spirit will live in your heart for all eternity but it's physical being will leave in 2 years. Are you willing to deal with the pain in order to be blessed with the treasure?"

Obviously I don't know you personally, but with warmth and friendliness that you've exuded through TPR, I think, without a doubt, that your answer to the gift would have been yes.

It's been said that sometimes a friend comes into your life for a reason, a season or forever, but I somehow think that, perhaps, RatTums came into your life for all 3.

May you bask in RatTums love in his last days and May the spirit of the most Awesome RatTums reside in your heart for all eternity.

Having losing a grandmother recently, I understand exactly what your going through. R.I.P RatTums, I think no cute hamster could replace you.

And like LiveStrong bracelets, a sig/avatar set dedicated to the loving memory of RatTums.

Sorry to hear that guys, I really am. I'm a huge animal lover( 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 hamster) I've had to put some of our pets down in the past and I know how hard it can be. It is better then seeing them in pain though, but also sad to see them go. I cant be right there for you ( Living in Ontario) But our minds and hearts are there. If I could be there I would.

Take it easy, enjoy your hamster while you have him.

Thinking of you ...... Spike

^^I appreciate the effort, but I'd really prefer not to look at avatars of RatTums saying he's already dead...maybe we can repost something like that later. For now I'm still going on, and treating him like he's okay while he still is.

Thanks for understanding.

And thanks everyone for your kind words.
