Hard Rock / Freestyle Music Park Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Now you freaking listen to me right now. Every single one of you. I dont know where you get off not allowing us to DEBATE a damn topic. We are debating a topic and I think that is healthy and fair. If you want to BAN us for debating something I think you need to check your values, you understand?

If this is a website which bans people for debating a topic, you guys need to evaluate yourselves.

What I notice, and what the rest of you need to notice, is that if any of us say ANYTHING you mods and Robb and Elissa do not like, you automatically ban or try to discredit. You never ever take people for their word or attempt to understand what we are trying to get across. It is either your way or the highway. That goes for JeffJohnson, CFC and anyone in your group who goes out on trips with you guys.

We try to say ANYTHING you dont like and you put us down for it. It is pathetic and I am wondering why I post at a forum where individual thoughts are put down.

So go ahead and ban me now. I know you will because you don't care about anyone but your posse. Its true and you damn well know it.

Funny, I'm wondering why you post here, too. If it bothers you so much, then go hang out with the other South Carolina over obsessive fanboys.

I'm still trying to be optimistic for Hard Rock Park. I want to see it succeed, I don't want to see it "barely hang on" for a year or two before taking the final plunge. If someone can come along and pick up the park, then that's great! But if the park wasn't meant to be, we'll be seeing these rides pop up at other parks in the coming years.

What i dont get is why there was no money to actually getthru the first couple of years. Almost any business, let alone a themepark is not profitable in the first year or two, I know that, you know that, so anyone with a little business sense should have known that too

BANNED!

Sorry dude, it has nothing to do with debating a topic it's just that we don't tolerate TPR members being treated this way.

This topic was being debated JUST FINE until you started shouting at everyone because we didn't share your exact opinion.

No one persons opinion is right or wrong, I can accept that. I will NOT accept you treating other people and bullying them in this manner.

BANNED!!!!

The 55-acre park, is looking to sell off its assets - either in whole or part by part -

I surprised no one mentioned it yet, but when you see "part by part" it really makes me think that we are going to start seeing "dismantling" photos by Feb or March of next year.

I agree with Dave, that $2.5million fee for the license every year puts a real dent in the profitability of the park, unless of course someone wants to come in and just operate it as "Music Circus Park" or something like that.

I think somoene should buy the park and theme to Monty Python, well it wouldn't work too well, but I would like itt.

The dark ride could become the adventures of the Killer Rabbit. You go through the ride shooting the killer rabbit before it kills you.

Maximum RPM could become The Holy Hand Grenade coaster, the cars would be shaped like it.

That is all I could think of.

The crowds will be like the plaque scene, an empty park.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that $35 million gets you the park assets but you also assume all the currently unpaid debts which could be hundreds of millions.

Actually, anyone buying the park outright through this process would be buying the assets only. The debts would remain with the previous operator. That's why I think this place has a shot if someone can pick it up for essentially pennies on the dollar.

First off, I said "love". How many people do you know over the age of 14 who go to Magic Mountain and state that Gold Rusher is the best ride there, and the best ride ever. And Gold Rusher arguably has more of a 'theme' than LITFL did, as it actually has stuff to go through. And I will admit, you're right. It isn't "no one." I'm sure that someone likes it the most. But it isn't the majority of people who will name X2 or Goliath or Tatsu.

LITFL actually had some interesting theme elements, the shadow in the tunnel, the fire shooting statue at the end... Assuming the park and ride remain in the same place if you give it a couple/few years for the trees and plants to grow in it will look fine.

I do grant that LITFL has some "interesting theme elements"--they're just for the wrong theme. Originally, this ride was to be "Midnight Rider," so its placement in the Cool Country section landscaping would've made more sense. It did amuse me that even though the Eagles are a country-music-influenced rock band, the park used one of their least "countryish" songs.

I guess no one here believes the official story that "Midnight Rider" was a code name while the Eagles deal was finalized (Greg Allman was on record saying he knew nothing of the ride when the Eagles deal was announced), and that the Eagles, specifically Joe Walsh, picked the song to be used and reviewed the ride elements.

Oh, but that's right, management of the park was the only one who was clueless about amusement parks....

^My favorite are still the lingering Visionland fanboys.

It's kind of amazing that a park that was open for only one season can even have fanboys. Being open for that short of time they can't fall back on the "but I grew up with this park, Zep was my first big coaster" stuff.

Maybe we'll get some ex-HRP management trolls on here. It's not like they have anything else to do right now.

This was not a good idea. I'm pretty sure my cats could manage a park better than these clowns. And they want to be paid more money for their failure? Here is a prime example of what is wrong with business today.

In a nutshell, I thought that this statement pretty much summed up my opinion of this whole mess. I was very surprised to read the entire thread to view all of the insanely moronic arguing and banter!

But being that I like to participate in discussions, I will add my thoughts as well:

I certainly agree with Robb that this is more of an adult-oriented theme park and particularly could have been a success as a Universal Orlando tie-in - great idea.

Las Vegas would have also been an interesting choice. The idea of tying in some of the MGM/GA rides and perhaps even 'Speed' as later add-in's might have worked out well. I have not been to Vegas in years, but what about the area over by the HRC on Paradise? It used to be mostly desert...is it all condos, casinos and widely developed now? Please keep in mind that my last visit was like back in 2002! Even though Wet-N-Wild and MGM's parks failed, the Stratosphere and Adventuredome seem to be sticking around.

I have not been to MB since the initial proposal to build this park was brought to the public eye many years ago. At first, I thought it was a neat idea, but since then, the economy has been in an obvious downhill slide.

My friend went to MB last year and said that they were offering great hotel deals to get tourists down there because their industry was really hurting. From my understanding, the golf courses have also taken quite a hit.

$50 a ticket for a developing theme park? I agree - epic fail!

It is too bad to see a park fall on it's face in it's inaugural season. But with the Corporate financial mis-conceptions, cocky executive attitudes, out-in-left-field annual operating (expected) plans, and steep gate prices during a recession, it is sad, yet almost morbidly humerous that this park is now on the chop block.

Severence packages though?? UGGGHHHH!!!! It really amazes me that this continues to happen in this country - truly despicable!

Any chance LZ sells at an extreme discounted price? That'd be huge for a smaller-ish park.

They have no choice but to due to the bankruptcy. The minimum price is less than 1/10th what the park originally cost. At that price, they could be doing yearly attendance of 400,000 or so (which is a pretty lousy number) and probably break even. Its one third of what CF paid for Geauga Lake, just to give you some idea. Additionally, they would incur none of the old debts, given that this is ostensibly a liquidation to pay off debtors. As pointed out earlier in thread: Building a park is generally a losing proposition. Buying a park someone recently built and lost lots of money has a far better success rate.

The point about it being potentially sold "part by part" is a red herring. Of course that's an option: this is a liquidation of the company's assets. When it goes to auction they have no choice but to legally present it as such.

edit: For the sake of comparison, Wild West World cost $30 million to build. Its a full themer at FEC price.

"Official story" or not, the themeing still makes no sense with "Life in the Fast Lane."

It's just a strange coincidence the motorcycle was at the exit, it was themed to the desert, and the fire man thing looks like something you would find at a roadside attraction?

I'm not doubting you, but the ride did seem to have a lot that was inspired by the Midnight Rider music video.
