WOFanatic
If you look at the investor slideshow, Worlds of Fun brings in almost as much revenue as Carowinds...I wonder what is holding WoF back in terms of a big coaster expansion like Carowinds did..? I'm guessing it's because Carowinds has a bigger potential market than WoF. Edited August 12, 2015 by WOFanatic

Charlotte is growing at a pretty exceptional rate. Cedar Fair is seeing opportunity there. Kansas City isn't growing near as fast.

With the royals doing so well Kansas City has gotten global attention. I honestly don't ever here anything about Charlotte. I know Charlotte has a bigger population but I believe Kansas City is growing more.
ragerunner2
Actually the Carowinds market is significantly larger and growing much faster than the Worlds of Fun market. Charlotte Metro population 2.4 million (2014) with a 7% growth rate Kansas City Metro population 2.1 million (2014) with a 3% growth rate Charlotte metro has more than double the growth rate. The bigger difference comes when you look at the primary markets. North Carolina + South Carolina population is 14.7 million Missouri + Kansas population is 8.9 million This is one reason Cedar Fair sees Carowinds as a significant growth opportunity. ragerunner2
You left out Iowa and Nebraska from the population pools that go to WOF I think a lot of people from Iowa go to Adventureland. You can add eastern Nebraska, but that only grows the population by about 1 million more. At the end of the day, Cedar Fair is focusing on a larger market area with higher growth rates for the return on their investment (ROI). It just business. I also think having Silver Dollar City, Six Flags and Adventureland in this same market zone affects growth potential for WOF. Carowinds closes big competitors is Six Flags in Atlanta, Dollywood in Tennessee and Busch Gardens up in Virginia (all different market zones with their own major population base). lk2500
You left out Iowa and Nebraska from the population pools that go to WOF When I was there a few weeks ago I think I saw an equal number of Nebraska and Oklahoma hats/shirts. I was actually surprised at the number of them.

While you might have people like me (i.e. coaster fans) who would rather drive 3 hours to WoF instead of 20 minutes to Adventureland, they've actually been packing them in the last few years at Adventureland. The water park expansion from a few years ago has really helped the park's attendance, and probably helped with the addition of The Monster next season. I know a ton of families that have purchased season passes and their kids go there nearly every day throughout the summer.
PhantomPoster32
It always gets busier at Adventureland the weeks leading up to (and especially including) Fair Week
Barge84
Outside of the 10 or so days that the State Fair is running, that really has nothing to do with attendance at the park. I'm guessing it's busy in the weeks leading up to it because it's July.
Vonni
I haven't been to a WOF Haunt in many, many years. The first time I went they had one haunted house. Something to do with clowns that was located where the station and queue for Patriot are now. It has grown so much since then. I would really like to go some time. WOFanatic
New rides for Worlds of Fun in 2016 confirmed at Coaster Mayhem. Announcement is Thursday. I don't know exactly what rides, but there are new rideS coming. Also a few notes: -Dark ride is close. They have a location (near Steelhawk) but they are still working on the middle phases of design. -New front gate is close. They wanted to build one earlier, but they wanted proper funding to make it look nice. -Rides have already been bought from Europe to go to WoF. Not this next season, though. -Free Fast Lane for season pass renewals. -Frank Wilburn wants a launch coaster!!!

PhantomPoster32
Yuck. It's kU spirit day at the park? Glad I chose not to attend Mayhem. Free Fast Lane? I'd take free Fright Lane for a renewal instead if they'd offer it.
Jaykethekid
I'm glad Frank wants a new coaster. It gives me hope, but sadly, that will probably be broken into millions of little peices.
PhantomPoster32
Why? Because we're not one of the "big parks"? We could still get a Tempesto clone and it would do just fine here - especially if he wants a launched coaster. I'm happy that it is PLURAL rides for 2016. Why? It's because we have been told that they want to build a new coaster and it has never come. Many years, wingrider to RMC it has not happened. Hopefully the launch coaster will be different. Yes it is good that there will be meow than one, but won't appela to much to adults. I've heard that it is going to be a planter snoopy expansion. I just hope that a flying scooter ride comes too. It could ge where scrambler was.
thrillseeker4552
Maybe not this next year, but I could easily see Cedar Fair adding a launched B&M of some sort to WoF. Although they may want to focus on the "big three" first (Carowinds, Valleyfair, and CGA).
PhantomPoster32
The thing is, WOF doesn't really *need* a new coaster. The park has great capacity as is. The waterpark could use some more as was evident this summer. Adding a ride or two each year is the way to go. Honestly they could add a slide and a flat every year like what was done before CFEC took over and I'd be fine. They probably will need to add a coaster in the future, but it's not a HAVE TO ADD attraction.

I agree, which is why I said that CF might bring a new coaster to a few other parks first, specifically Valleyfair and CGA .
