Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

Recommended Posts

They mentioned on their Facebook Page that no rides have been removed and the Action Theater will be open and show the Sponge Bob film again.

EDIT: It looks like they no longer have the Citigraph map—it looks very Cedar-Fairish. It's hard to see, but it has indeed been redone, you can tell by the flatter colors and patches.

I hope that the SOB gets a rehab treatment, becuase this is going to sound crazy but the SOB is my top favorite woodie coaster that I have ever ridden. But it is rough and breaks down alot,it still needs love I think but that is my opinion. I just hope they just do the same thing to the SOB that they did to the Texas Gaint.

^ Please don't take offense, but you need to get on some more wooden coasters. Even if SoB was smooth, the layout leaves a LOT to be desired element-wise. I guess if all you're looking for is giant drawn-out helixes then SoB would be a great ride. I'm not trying to belittle you, but I honestly can't understand why it would make the list of top wooden coasters for anyone that has been on at least say 40 wooden coasters or so, even randomly picked, so-so coasters like aging CCI's.

For some reason, I really enjoy the Spongebob 3D show. I think that's just because I really am sick of the Peanuts gang; I really enjoyed the Nickelodean theme at KI...even though I'm not a kid anymore. So I hope it will return this year. As for SoB, I really wish they'd open it back up in the next few years; I rode it back in 2007 and really enjoyed it.

I haven't been in the theater since the Days of Thunder show. But, I think the theater is a one-trick pony that doesn't bring in a lot of visitors except for a place to sit down and relax for a few. I would much rather they use it for something else, how about an enclosed kiddie coaster or some crazy one off thing? I would rather have CInema 180 return!

I think someone 'asked the GM' that on Wonderland's Facebook page. They said they're 'exploring different themed action films' after 2011. Are the other Action Theatres in other parks in or around the kids areas? Maybe a Red Baron movie featuring Snoopy?

Or maybe Days of Thunder, but with the number 3 all over it?

Well, I have been on a 12 woodies by the way. Although SOB is just my number one becuase mostly I had a great ride every time I have rode it when it had the loop and didn't have the loop, but I think I have a great ride on it every time I rode it is maybe becuase I am 13 and I can always ride woodies in the front becuase for some reason they are smoother in the front then the back, middle,or higher middle. I am saying that you just have to give the SoB a chance and just stop bashing on it all the time.

Regarding SOB, I have a feeling that if the Texas Giant's re-track works out incredibly positive, Cedar Fair might consider the re-track option for SOB in the 2011 off-season.

I doubt it would be that soon. I'd also expect Cedar Fair to "experiment" on a different coaster first, such as Mean Streak, to test the popularity for themselves and possibly work out any kinks. SOB would be a HUGE project to undertake, and I would assume they'd want to get everything right before making such an investment.

I know this is quite a stretch and highly unlikely, but with the topper track, would bringing back the loop be possible? I know they would need the heavier trains back since the current ones are much lighter, but it would be incredible to see the return of the loop, since the main point of the ride was the only looping wooden roller coaster in the world.

Or maybe they could tear it down. Seriously, Texas Giant was once considered a pretty good coaster. SoB's rankings in Mitch's should tell everyone what it is worth. When the Jr. Woodie in your park is ranked higher than the biggest coaster in your park, there's a layout problem. It isn't just that SoB is rough, but beyond the drop (and the loop when it was there), it's boring. It's like Nascar without the crashes (Well, actually SoB DID hurt some people...) Drop - Helix - Drop - lame hill with no airtime - Helix - more lame no airtime hills - brakes. Seriously, does that sound like a ride worth spending more on? They've already tried everything up to this point to save this pile of junk. Cedar Fair, realize that you can't get sunk cost back but if you keep pouring money into SoB, it won't help anything except to help negate your profits.

I did not see this myself but apparently the lead banner on KI's website briefly read "Something big is coming. You're history. 3-18-11." According to a thread over at KICentral the words were overlayed over something that looked like a dinosaur. It has since returned back to the normal Windseeker/Math & Science days rotation. Guess the good news is 9 days isn't too long to wait and see what, if anything, this all about.

I would love to see them tear down SoB and maybe replace it with a Mega Lite or something. It was good the first year, and then just became a torture machine. You're right about it having a very boring layout. It was built with only highest drop and loop in mind. They forgot that the rest of the ride needed to be good also. I think they should auction off "first match" for it. Being the winning bidder gets to light the first match to it and watch it burn!

^Any solid info, he'd post it. You can't believe people from New Jersey. I was watching this documentary series called Jersey Shore, and apparently New Jersey people are very different from us midwesterners....

If you actually had been in New Jersey, you'd know that those teenagers on Jersey Shore are FAR from what actual people are in New Jersey.

Jersey Shore ain't a documentary series either. It's a show to capitalize on the idioticy MTV puts on their channel now.

Back to KI, all I'm concerned about now is SOB getting re-tracked. With NTG's success, I sense it won't be long now before Cedar Fair gets smart and calls Rocky Mountain and gets a re-track done...Maybe then SOB would finally be the coaster that USED to be.

^Absolutely. SOB is a POS.

Maybe...MAYBE the only redeeming thing for me was the loop. Even then, the loop felt incredibly painful going into. Even worse than hitting GASM's loops on a bad operating day. The layout, as always said, is boring as crap. It's not even an out and back, it's a "ride along the front lawn" coaster. Nothing is redeeming about it now, I agree.

Why couldn't King's Island have just left Beast's legacy alone? That coaster is epic by itself, besides the occasional brain-liquidification because of current roughness...

It isn't a documentary?!? I wish I had known that before I wrote that letter to our congressman encouraging them to oust New Jersey from the United States and trade it to Canada for some of that BC stuff...

^^ Yes, PLEASE KI: Don't retrack a horrible coaster. Making it smooth will only illustrate more clearly to people how boring and bad the layout is, now that they aren't getting beaten senseless throughout...
