robbalvey
Day 7. Part 2 - Schlossbeck Many photos by Hanno. Some by Robb. Some by that weird yellow creature you'll see later on in this update. Steve would really like to forget this night ever happened! See you in the morning Steve! Miles is up for a challenge! The Dragon Bar had many victims this night... At night is when things turn evil here. That night we drove up to Phantasialand's Hotel Ling Bao. ...and I though they stopped doing these kinds of experiments decades ago! Hey look! Jeff Johnson is on the dark ride! I cannot believe we don't have a SINGLE photo of IggyACE getting clocked in the nuts on this scary swing. (We do have video, though!) We'll let him tell that story! The obligatory silly photo of Chris! I think there's a dog somewhere under that thing. Here was the park's mascot (The yellow thing, not Robb.) What is it? It could be an Easter Peep. It could be a ghost that was dipped in urine. Any ideas?!!? Horse Chariot FIGHT!!! These were very bizarre little creatures. They were 'coin operated horse chariots!" The "do it yourself tea cups of death" I didn't know Linda Blair did ads for Ice Cream! We called this one the "Tampon swing!" I'm probably going to get in trouble for posting this one! OMG! They are going to flip it! The human powered swing set. Let's head over to the "playground" part of the park for some REAL fun! And the self-operated zip lines! They even had one of the Klotten do-it-yourself swings of doom! Another victim of the death slides. "Maybe this wasn't such a great idea!" "Houston, we are ready for liftoff!" Next was this BIZARRE looking thing! If you remember the do-it-yourself upside down ferris wheel from Klotten, this was the same kind of car, but on the ground on a track! Thank you. Geez, Jon, do we really need to see that? This was pretty much every one's expression on the SuicSlide. The other insane ride here was the near vertical death slide or what we called the "SuicSlide" "FINALLY!!! We get a credit on this trip!!!" Oh, yeah, there was a coaster here too! Near death experience...but I got the POV! "I'm just a head!" Only *slightly* freaked out...but still able to keep hands up! Happy like a schoolgirl. There are two boat jumps here. The second one jumps into the Malaria lake jungle! Good luck Larry! SKLOOOSH!!!! Then you come back down and *FLY* through the air! Next your little boat gets pulled up the track and released "Boomerang Style" First you get in, shut the gate, and pull the rope! The highlight of the park is of course the "Nautic Jet" boat jump! One half of the park looked like this where it was a huge garden area with some of the most awesome deadly "do it yourself" rides you've ever seen! Schlossbeck was this weird park that more like a "playground" and less like an amusement park. It absolutely was the "Klotten" of this trip. thrillgeek
Those trains on the kiddie SLC looked ultra comfy! Id be cool with those on the standard ones. You guys always have so much fun it makes me depressed to see you but at the same time it feels me with joy! Hahahaha Anyway awesome pics as usual
RCFreak
This is NOT the same Zombie served at Phantasialand, which has different rums and different fruit juices. However, it is close enough, and still a lethal drink of destruction. mmmmm Dragon Bar Zombie! One of those deadly drinks like an Adios Mother F***er, Long Island Iced tea, Tokyo Tea, etc... that usually take two or three (if done right) to knock me off my feet. WAAAAAAAH I'm sad I wasn't able to make it this year on the trip, but the parks visited look fantastic and most of all FUN! Just looking at the pics makes me remember all the great times on all the messed up things that you just can't do in the US.
eBen
I feel it should be pointed out in the list of drinks in the Dragon Bar the Zombie was stated to contain a rum which was 73%. Steve thought it would be a good idea to get me one the next night but it was a different hotel and bar. I didnt feel I had to wait on a bench for some underpaid troll to bring my soul back during the next day so I'm guessing that Phantasialand wanted to make a drink that fits the name. As for Schlossbeck Im gutted I missed the dark ride - spent the whole time in just half the park thinking there wasnt much on the other side. And collossus, I didnt like it above the wheels but in the middle of the (6 seater) cars it was a great ride.
Kooky
nice trip photos... i am new here but still looking since years in forum and read your reports, cause i`m little coaster enthusiast too. looks like you had a lot of fun in Europe.... hopefully there will follow some photos from "Europa Park", i lived next to this park but hadn`t enough time to go there the last 2 years. hope i can go there the next month and upload you some nice videos from the park, cause i like video making to! That's all. Oh, and I too missed the dark ride, hell, I didn't know until just now that there was one!! I thought it was just playground/do-it-yourself stuff on that side and I wasn't really feeling up to that (I'm sick of seeing myself post that phrase already ) so I didn't wander over much! dammie16@vt.edu
Do those self-operated rides have someone to watch to make sure some jackhole doesn't just stay on it holding up the line or are people generally good about it or are there just fist fights when people aren't nice about taking turns? Thanks a bunch and another great report Robb!
cfc
Schlossbeck had a dark ride? D'oh! Oh, well--at least I've maintained my streak of missing one dark ride per trip. I blew it at Oakwood and Cosmoworld, too.
Divv3k
I can't believe I missed the dark ride either. And I was joking when I said we needed Larry to do a guide to Schlossbeck too!
ginzo
^ & ^^ & ^^^^ & ^^^^^ There wasn't a dark ride per se. It was a haunted walk through in the basement of the house. Basically, you had to pay like 0.50 EUR per room to watch a really craptacular haunted scene complete with cheesy music and strobe lights. They must have spent no more than 25 EUR on the entire thing. It was great! Do those self-operated rides have someone to watch to make sure some jackhole doesn't just stay on it holding up the line or are people generally good about it or are there just fist fights when people aren't nice about taking turns? Nope. Nobody watched the rides AT ALL. That's why they're self-operated rides. It seemed to work out. If some kid cut you in line, you just cut the kid back. The Bat
Love, love, LOVE the drunken Miles and drunken Steve pics! Classics!!! I love the Dragon Bar -- it is definitely an evil place (evil in a very good way, though)!!! -- Dave
Moose
The service from the beer vending machine was far better than the dragon bar, and you could actually get food as well. I didn't know anyone got my picture on the zip line. Funny little story about that. There are two of them at this park. Aparently one of them didnt like me or I was too fat or something. The other was just fine. Those playground rides were an absolute blast. I do not think I have ever spun so fast as on the teacup one, spooked horses be damned. Who rides horses in a playground anyway?

That explains why it was so damn dark and we couldn't see a thing in there.
Teonanacatl
Great Updates Robb. The Movie Park Group Photo is so cool, especially with some of the group riding the Coaster in the Background and are still posing for the Photo. I think Brian has a video of me, where i got really hurt on of those Playground rides. Some of those were really vicious. And the Bandit Onride-Videos were classic too. It's just a shame they are so expensive. 20$+ for 3 Min Footage was just a bit too much for me.
RenegadeFan
That was one of the funniest updates of trip yet Robb! If only we had self-operated rides in America.

terrancew_hod
Things to note: 1) You could produce your own beer in the time that you got served in the Dragon Bar. 2) You paid out of your a$$ for food at the hotel. Where are the cheap snacks? Luckily I ate at the parks so I wouldn't have to pay about $40 USD for a simple meal. 3) Stephan's outfits just keep getting more... um... colorful. You definitely knew he was nearby. 4) That vertical slide was cool. 5) They couldn't have a self-operated ride in France. It would be another French Crush... or Parisian Push as I called it, as the ride slid into the river! But it wasn't as bad as my french (ex)friend and his buddies grabbing my hand then charging the club doors as it quickly became a mob scene... I thought I was gonna get crushed! 6) No one took pictures of the self operated soft-serve ice cream machine? I'll save it for my TPR. We need those in the US! 7) The cashier messed up and gave me 2 extra bratwurst and when I tried to give them away no one wanted them! (No worries, I stuffed them down) But I bet a few wish they had one when we got to the hotel and saw those outrageous prices!

So, paying for one meal out of three at the hotel didn't seem bad to me. But yeah, the quality of the food definitely did not square with the price. I think the breakfast food was actually a lot better for some reason.
cfc
I'm amazed that people are still complaining about the price of food in Europe. This was quite well documented before the trip even began, folks. "Properly warned ye be, sez I." The breakfasts at the Ling Bao and Colosseo were excellent.

"Properly warned ye be, sez I." The breakfasts at the Ling Bao and Colosseo were excellent. No complaining here. Just noticed a contrast between dinner and the EXCELLENT spread Movie Park made for us. I'm still having fun with Liz about the fact that she missed out on probably the best park meal. And, for my part, I didn't think food prices were bad in Europe. Honestly, the park food prices seemed about the same. And, I got some excellent fare in Paris at the little restaurant windows for very reasonable prices. Trois fromage paninis were out of this world good at some places. Now, if you did something dumb like sit down at some random expensive restaurant in Paris, then maybe you could get rolled fast.

This was quite well documented before the trip even began, folks. "Properly warned ye be, sez I." Not the food in europe.... the food at the hotel. I got a better and cheaper meal in the park at one of their sit down restaurants. There wasn't much of a selection at the hotel for the price they were charging. Breakfast wasn't bad... although most days at breakfast I ate really quickly to get to the bus. But it was generally your typical egg, bacon, bread and coffee combination. You can't really mess that up... unless you're trying to pass off powdered eggs like the Novatel Amsterdam did. Terry
