Photo TR Voodoo Media Day at Dorney

Recommended Posts

Today we headed to Dorney for the Voodoo media day. The coaster itself actually opened on Saturday and we were able to ride twice that day, but today was the "official" opening. The event started late and didn't last as long as expected, but we were able to ride 13 times. Most times the train was only 1/4 full due to them not allowing rerides. Regardless, we're so happy to have one of our all-time favorite coasters within a few miles of our house and we'll be back to ride it many times this year.

Here's a couple pictures from the festivities today. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it operating at this point--when it was running, we were too busy riding it. I'll get some action shots of it the next time we visit the park.

I can't believe they weren't allowing re-rides during a special event (I also heard they don't allow re-rides during ERT sessions either). It gets fusturating having to walk through the empty queues for each ride at Dorney but I guess it's better than having to wait in a line.

Here's another great example of CF showing originality!! Same colors as Wicked Twister? Why o' why? How about purple supports with orange track? That would look nice and fit the name, but the exact same as WT? I just don't get it. Sorry.

Wow, I had TOTALLY forgotten about the ride the last couple of months. I'm glad S:UE got resurrected though. I loved it at SFWOA and I'm sure it's just the same here at DP.

Looking forward to riding it in August! Thanks for posting the TR.

Nice photos! I've driven by the park a couple times but haven't gone in yet this year, I think Voodoo really stands out from the outside of the park and looks exciting. I really like the "Voodoo" sign, I think it looks pretty cool. One question - I heard that when it was Superman, Voodoo used to have a holding brake on one of the spikes. Does it still have and use that brake?

I agree about the rerides. It would be nice if they at least allowed them for ERT and special events. You would think on media day that they'd like to show the trains as full as possible in all of the TV clips and photos.

Yes, Nicole, the holding break is on. That's definitely one of my favorite parts of the ride.

Robb, it's just as awesome as it was at SFWOA. It was our favorite ride at that park and now it's our favorite ride at Dorney. Personally, I liked it better when it was called S:UE. It was nice having one of my favorite coasters named after me.

Sue:

Were you representing TPR at this media day, or another media/news entity? Just wondering...that doesn't change the fact I want to say GREAT JOB! I do agree with some of the others that it should have been painted to better reflect the name, though. But your coverage was superb, so no criticisms there.

This was my first thought.Maybe they bought too much paint for WT and just figured, WTH, use it on Voodoo. Color scheme of the ride does not match the sign.

Great report Sue, good pics.

No, I wasn't representing TPR. We're just ACE members and friends of the park. My husband also works security there so that doesn't hurt either. Don't ever try line jumping at Dorney when he's on patrol or you'll be busted!

Thanks for the compliments!

Is Rich going to be working thursday June 4th? I'm going to have him escort Lindsey and I to the front of the line on Voodoo! Sue, don't forget to meet us there that day. We will be in Hershey that Tuesday so I won't be able to write you an e-mail reminding you. I can't wait though.

The ride colors correspond to Voodoo, sort of.

New Olreans and Mardi Gras, are very much centered around the Voodoo religion, and this ride (with some artistic license) is adhering to the color scheme.

Purple: Symbol of Justice

Green (in this case teal): Symbol of Faith

Gold (in this case, yellow-ish): Symbol of Power

Here's an image of the Mardi Gras flag, as you can see, it's not a 100% match to the ride, but it sure puts things in perspective.

I'm not a Voodoo expert or anything, but I do find it interesting that it is matched up like that. Kind of subtle.

edited for another pic:

Here you can see the colors represented as more teal and yellow. See? I'm not lying :-D

^^ I have heard that to and I am very curious as to what is wrong with the ride. A few of my friends were at Dorney over the weekend and they said the ride broke down a few times. When I was there Friday it ran flawless and had great dispatches. The only thing I can think of was the train would make a LOUD clunk noise when it would go through the station backwards the second time every 3 trains or so. The ride operator said that is a "normal" noise though.

I was at the park on Sunday, and they were definitely having problems with the ride. It opened later in the day (around 11 or 11:30) and was down for about 20-30 minutes a pop about 3 times during the course of the day. I'm not surprised that it would be down for a few days.
