ginzo Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Maybe the majority of coaster enthusiasts are just brittle, because I didn't feel an ounce of pain on Magnum. Yes, because coasters always give the same ride no matter what. And different sized/shaped riders get the same ride as well because all restraints are universal and fit all riders equally well.
Thom25 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ^ You're kidding? right? Coasters do not always give the same ride - weather, temp, and humidity all factor in to a trains speed for wood and steel coasters. Yes, restraints are universal, but again given the size and shape of the rider, this will impact his/her "fit" within the seat which will impact the individual riders ride experience.

I think he was being sarcastic.
Olsor Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 BTW does anyone else think that Magnum XL is a horribly uncomfortable and painful coaster? I always see it ranked high in the polls, but I really didn't like it! You're not alone. When I rode it in 1998, it was terrific. When I rode it in 2003, it was only slightly smoother than Mean Streak. There was horrible jackhammering in the pullouts... on a steel coaster. Something's not right with that ride. As for CP vs. SFGAdv, it's about even for me. Each park has a lineup of rides that varies from "top-notch" to "total clunker." Each park is in a nice location. Each park is generally crowded. But if I had to choose between them, I'd probably pick BGE.
Skramp Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ^Yes, biased. "Horrible operations"??? Compared to who? Disney and Universal charge significantly more for a day ticket - and if you are going to tell me SF has better operations than CP, I will stop right here, cause you truely are biased and delusional to belive that. I wasn't going to get involved in this thread because it seemed like a bunch of bitching and whining, but I have to say something about your ticket price comment. CP=42.95 (for 1 day!) 29.00 for Soak City (for 1 day!) Universal=79.99 (for IOA and Universal Studios for 7 days!!) Disney=71.00 So yes, CP does charge less for 1 day at the park, but with what Universal gives you it's horrible. Universal's pass is valid for 7 days at 80.00 making it just over 10.00 a day. We all know what experience you get at Disney so the price is valid. I would be almost any park over CP based on one point, once they get your money they don't care at all about you. They have tons of trash cans which few use, they have minimal bathroom facilities, which are always in abysmal shape and they do nothing to alleviate lines for rides. Why would I want to pay 43.00 to go wait in line for 10 hours to ride 2 rides? That seems like a complete waste of money. Leaving their "Rain Policy" aside, CP, actually CF as whole shows no concern for their customers once they get their money at the front gate. And I have never stayed at the Breakers, but I will say there is a nice EconoLodge right outside Pennisula Dr that's like 34.95 a night or something. Stay there, it's a great value. But overall Thom25, I would say your arguments here are completely invalid and you're showing no concrete evidence to back up any of your points
ginzo Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ::bows:: Ginzo, we NEED you on the EC tour! I'd love to, but we're doing the Europe tour instead. Only have so much vacation time and money.
Hercules Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I, too, wasn't going to get involved in this just because it seems like a bunch of crying with Cedar Point fanboys defending the park and Six Flags haters bashing. I will say this though, it just depends on what you like. It is opinion, and if you can't get over the fact that someone has a different opinion than you, as long as they aren't hurting you or something else, then you have a problem.
Thom25 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ^^Scramp - you aren't proving or showing anyting either. What we have here is two different opinions by two different people. On a daily basis, Universal and Disney are more expensive than CP, you yourself said CF has ton's of trash cans yet you fault the park for the behavior of their patrons? It's only an opinion. I don't have a significant emotional attachment to my opinions as clearly many hear do. Enjoy SFGA or whatever your fav park is - that's the point - enjoy the park you like - as I will enjoy the one I like (it really is that simple imo).

You just contradicted yourself. Everyone who sticks up for Cedar Point is a fanboy, and everyone who bashes Six Flags is a "Six Flags hater," clearly indicating that you think their opinions don't matter whatsoever because they are extremely biased. Yet in the next sentence you tell people that they should respect other opinions and accept the fact that people have different views than your own. That didn't make sense to me.
coaster05 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ^^Yet when several of us have said we find SF to have better operations you said we were biased and delusional. You can't have it both ways, you can't say we all have our opinion then tell us we are delusional. Here is my last trip to CP. Arrive at opening, go straight back to Maverick. wait in line while trains stack and breakdowns occur. 3 hours later go into the park. Find that even Gemini has a 30 minute line as they stack trains. Go get a bite to eat have wrong food brought to us, twice. Watch security ignore a fight/argument. Go wait 45 minutes for Blue Streak, never once seein a train not get stacked in the brake run. Maybe CP should make us all wear velcro for added protection. Watch employees not even check riders until 2nd train hits brake run. Go see a actor perform tell tale heart. It was awesome!!! Leave as fast as possible with the prayer of them never getting a new coaster so I don't have to come back. Oh and Maxair was broke all day. SFGADV get to the park 3.5 hours before closing. Ride El Toro amazing and in an area that looks like Disney. Get SUF credit along with an amazing churro. Get 1/2 of Chiller credit. Go ride Nitro twice. Back for more El Toro Back seat 20 minutes of park time to go. Again back seat, think no way can we get another ride we do as they leave the que open til exactly closing time. Ride an amazing ride get back to station and 2 people are waiting for front row, they put them in fronat and the rest of the train gets one more ride. Workers are hustling and high fiving people, supervisor talks to us a shakes are hand after we thank him for the huge improvement in the park. Leaving the park is very relaxing as people leave after a great day. Now which one would you vote for? For years I thought CP was great and one of the best run parks out there, however they are to big as a chain and all the things I found to annoy in their other parks are now a part of CP also. That is my opinion based on my most recent visit. It has been 5 years since I thought CP was on par with the best SF has to offer.
Skramp Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 ^Very well written post and I agree completely with your descriptions as that's also what I've seen happen.

I don't feel like I contradicted myself at all. I just get annoyed when people are jerks to others about their opinions. I don't respect people that consider their opinion to be fact, so I will discount their opinion. If you like Cedar Point, then great for you. Don't force it on people. Or, if you truly hate Six Flags, just don't go. You don't have to bash it, and then tell people that like the parks that they are morons. It's pretty simple.

If someone is sitting there saying they are right an everyone else was wrong, and insulting people for not believing in what they do, then I completely agree. I took it as, fanboys of a park are people who show great favoritism towards it and always defend it (defending it properly, though, with respect to whomever they are debating with and their opinion). At least, that's Robb's definition of a fanboy, anyone who shows slight favoritism towards a park and defends it once.
Hercules Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I consider myself a Dorney fanboy just because I grew up at the place. I bash it just as much as the next person, but I still love the place for what it used to be, and what remains. But, there is a line between fanboy and just plain being a jerk.
mcjaco Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Gentlemen, let's get back to being civil. We've all heard the the fanboy arguments too many times.
Hercules Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I'm being civil. I'm just explaining a little deeping. So to sound like I was being mean or combative.
SharkTums Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I'm not even reading all of these arguments, I'm just going to try and give the OP my thoughts! It really depends on what kind of rides you're into. If you are into rides with awesome airtime, want to ride the tallest fastest coaster on the planet and like B&M's then go to SFGAd hands down! Get a gold Qbot as well and you'll have one of the best days ever at a theme park! If you're into a more traditional amusement park experience and want to say you've been to CP then go there. Oh, and make sure to bring your magical no rain stick in case it rains cause then you're screwed!
coolhandluke Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Hmm. Very interesting remarks. I'm planning my first trip to SFGAdv later this summer, and I have to say I am really looking forward to it. This discussion is really setting my expectations high. Though I must also say that CP hasn't been as bad to me as it has been to others on this forum. Before I discuss CP I will admit that I am from Ohio, so I do hold a special liking for CP. I went this past weekend, and it was an absolutely fantastic trip. On Friday alone, we had 14 rides on 11 coasters (Raptor, Wildcat, Mantis, and Iron Dragon left off) and 2 flats (Power Tower and Skyhawk). And that was just the Starlight hours of 4.30-10.00. They were running max trains on all rides except TTD and Maverick (both ran 5), we never waited over 22 minutes for a ride (that was for Maverick after an advertised 45 minutes), and the ops were actually quite enthused about their jobs. Saturday was more of the same, as it was a continuation of Friday (though Raptor and TTD were closed for considerable amts of time for winds). Now, I will admit that it never legitimately rained while we were there. A few drops did fall in little spritzes, and nothing closed, so their policy isn't quite as strict as some may make it out to be. But again, I couldn't fully judge the policy this year, as it wasn't extensively tested. I think the main reason I'm looking forward to GAdv is for legit wood and inversions, something CP desperately needs. If you're into that, go there. I think CP may have the overall edge in terms of speed machines though (and yes, I know about KK). Depends on what you like. I know, very original answer...
PKI Jizzman Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I'd really need to make a trip to GAdv before arguing this point. All I can say is that Maverick, TTD, MF, Mantis, and Magnum are among my favorite coasters. And Gemini is a favorite woodie! But holy crap, Nitro and El Toro look like they could influence an opinion! Medusa and Batman are always good, right? -JZ

Same here, when I went to CP last summer, it was fantastic. Their were some negative aspects, but their are negative aspects anywhere you go. I also go to GADV many times during the season, one trip might be fantastic, barely any long lines, ops doing their thing quickly and efficiently. And sometimes the lines are horrible, and the ops look like they would rather be anywhere else but their. Even on the same day, you will get two different experiences riding two different rides. El Toro ops might be very enthusiastic and doing their best to get full trains out as quick as possible, and at the same time, right across the lake, Medusa ops are joking around, not doing their job correctly. This is just an example of course, as I always find that even when Medusa has a long line, the wait is not very long. So, like I said before, you are going to get fantastic experiences, and horrible experiences at both parks.
DBru Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 TTD > Kingda Ka Maverick > El Toro MF > Nitro ---------------------------- Catch my drift?
RIP Psyclone Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 ^ El Toro > Mean Streak There, that's more like it.
