Rim Runner Leaving Las Vegas

The condo craze and moves by all of the casino owners towards drawing in more upscale clientele has really hurt Las Vegas in terms of being a family destination. I do believe they will some day soon have to do something about Circus Circus though. Excalibur is only twenty years old, but the Circus Circus is almost in complete disrepair as it just turned forty years old. Nothing has been done to the actual hotel or casino since I was a little kid.

I haven't been back there in about 6 years now, but I wouldn't blink an eye if Circus Circus just simply disappeared one day like magic. I've never been in and out of a place for a credit so fast in all my life. I still get the shivers thinking about walking through the hotel to get to the dome. It has that 1970's moldy Flea Market vibe to it. I fully expected to see a booth with a three-nippled fortune teller somewhere on property.

I hope that Las Vegas can find a balance between upscale properties, with still some things to do for families. I think if they are going to experience the growths in tourism that they want, Las Vegas casinos are going to need both demographics. Who knows, Las Vegas seems to reinvent itself every 10 to 15 years anyway. Maybe the family friendly craze will return. One can only hope!

You know, I was always confused by the effort they made to market Vegas as more "family friendly." I mean, honestly, how family friendly can a place be that makes you navigate through porn slappers and hundreds of risque billboards just to get to the "family friendly" establishments. It's like putting a Disney store in the red light district. As long as gambling and sex are the two most prevelant aspects of the Vegas "experience," families don't necessarily need to be factored in. Perhaps off-strip, or outside of the more prominent areas, more family oriented places could exist, but not in the "heart" of Vegas.

MAJOR UPDATE!

A new article in the Las Vegas Review journal states that the new coaster is delayed until the Economy improves. So Rim Runner is safe for now.

But, The last line of the article got my attention. He is looking to add a roller coaster where the riders feet dangle.

Would SFA's Invertigo fit in the building?

I doubt we will be seeing any additions even after the economy improves.

Circus Circus (and the surrounding land) is currently the collateral on the restructured loan with some banks to complete City Center.

Until they are free of that debt, I doubt that coaster will be built.

When I first read that last line I immediately thought of a B&M Floorless. That's the first thing I think of when I hear/read "dangling feet." But I doubt a B&M would fit in the Adventuredome. I've never been to Vegas, so I don't know, but how much open space is in there, if any? And how high up does the roof go? I wonder if a custom Vekoma Hang'n'Bang would be put in? I know it would likely be a smaller-sized ride, but you never know, right? Vekoma SLCs always seem to be the choice of smaller parks... I know that won't happen, but I'm just thinking 'out loud' here.

Dosent this look just like Tangyakaga Tidal Wave at Busch Gardens Africa? I mean like the double drop?

It's really more than just your average double drop log flume. This one actually has a bit of a longer layout, and a couple tunnels, but it could just be the canyon fooling me. Same or not, I guess they are pretty similiar afterall.

As much as I would like to see a B&M it won't happen. The cost of a Beemer is way out of their leauge and even if they did have the money for one they wouldn't spend that kind of money for a single ride. Now as far as fitting one in there, I think they could manage to fit one in there but it would be tight. I would imagine it will be a small vekoma but who knows if they will even get anything. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Circus Circus get blown up and rebuilt as another overpriced Wynn resort.

Ah Rim Runner... The only ride in the Adventuredome I actually enjoyed (but then again, I was about 8). My farewells

An SLC sounds like it would work. And the new SLC's are not hang and bangs anymore. Have you seen the new trains that will be used in Vekoma's future projects? Thinking about it, would a Eurofighter fit?

I really doubt a B&M woud work because of the rumble and noise those things make. Oh yes, and cost too. Those things can easily add up to 10 million.

^More like "MGM creditors, ball is in your court!"

Right now you can argue that MGM doesn't even own Circus Circus. If they fail to meet the terms of their revised agreement to complete City Center...Circus Circus becomes the property of a bank.

Even if they do get that taken care of...the company itself is still on the brink of bankruptcy. I don't see them spending millions of dollars on a new ride any time soon. My theory is that if they are going to be spending millions of dollars, it is going to be on renovating Monte Carlo to better fit in with City Center.
