The only thing I care about is whether the ride will be in fact smoother. That's why I stopped riding X. Tim Burkhart did tell me that the new trains will have padding under where your legs go to help absorb the impact, so maybe that'll improve things.

^^^^ Hector, I'm 99.9987243432% sure that he said that, too.

Only fiberglass will be the seat. Tim wanted this to be only as heavy as it needed to be. The fiberglass fins don't need to be there.

Anything for a better ride!

I have only started going on X within the last 4 years and it seemed pretty rough to me. Was it like that during its first year? Eventhough it was painfull it was still an awesome ride. With the new trains hopefully smoothing it out I can only imagine how much better the ride will be. I cant wait for my next trip down there to experience how truly great this coaster is and what is was meant to be.

^^^Which would mean that S&S probably built trains over the target weight, and they are "trimming the fat" every way they can. It's a shame, they would have looked cool. But, you know, I think this is still a big "we'll see."

Maybe they are working extremely closely with S&S designing them to be as light as they can possibly be to ensure low maintenance and better ride throughput. This is just a theory though, don't quote me or the guy who is in charge of the entire project and could have said such things.

Your theory makes sense too, I mean it's not like any of us heard anyone from Magic Mountain talk about it.

Stop second guessing every single thing on the project as if you're in on the development of it.

None of us that were at the presentation have "questioned" it because it made sense to everyone there. Next time try to attend the event. That way if you have questions, you can ask them and hopefully get the answers you're looking for.

Regarding the lack of fiberglass on the new X2 trains (aside from the seats, of course), I had actually thought of asking a question while at the DVD Party event (during the Q and A) as to whether or not there was concern for the elements having an effect on the gearboxes/mechanics of the train. The reason I didn't ask it was because after the presentation, I felt confident that they have taken all of the factors into consideration. My overall impression was that they have spent a lot of time, effort and money and have really done their homework on this one.

^Which will be proven when and only when the final product is introduced to the public.

I'd imagine this is one of those improvements they don't want to screw up, they're trying to withhold a new image for the park which can stand or fall with the success or half-assness of this upgrade.

However I've gotta be honest I'm almost always disappointed with SF and their "final products." They just never match up to the drawing board.

But I'd love for them to take this opportunity on X2 to prove me wrong. Just as they need to do for the public, which I'm sure is pessimistic about the promises and you can't really blame them.
