Someotherguyuser
Anyone have any footage or pictures of the Pirate or Earthquake rides? I've been looking around and trying to find such things but with no avail...
larrygator
Awesome, brings back memories as 1992 was the year after my first coaster road trip which included Cedar Point. I "volunteered" to drive out to Bowling Green University with my girlfriend as she was scouting out graduate schools. My stipulation was that we had to go the CP to ride Magnum and Kings Island to ride The Beast. My first coaster trip.
coasterfreak101
In that video, was the left side of Rolling Thunder running backwards?? I tried to stop the video, but it was a little tough to make out. If it was, I had no idea they used to run a side backwards!
netdvn
Theme park maps looked so much cooler back then. Today's CP map looks similar, but there's some sort of cartoony vibe to them that I really don't like (same with the other CF maps outside of the Carowinds/CGA maps). I've got Getaway Guides from 2009-2011 and they certainly don't look as cool as the older ones (although the 2010/2011 ones are a tad nicer than the 2009 ones). DenDen
Ahh, I feel 20 again. LOL Thanks for sharing that awesome CP Getaway Guide, I own that one, just haven't seen it in years!
Randomman295
Wow... Honestly, I'd still go. Mainly just for the fact that Magnum XL200 is new, but it looks like the park put more into scenery then.
CorkscrewFoley
Wow, thanks for the time machine ride, Shane. I think I still have those brochures from back there, if not, some of the photos came in editions afterwards. 1992, I was in the ninth grade, and that was a fun time. ajc47
Great post Shane. I was 10 in 1992, and we had season passes to CP and went multiple times that summer.
MrJazzHands
I agree with everybody above me, fantastic post, Shane. Those shots of Mean Streak bring back some good memories of watching the POV from America's Greatest Coasters (Volume 1!), too bad the real ride wasn't anything as awesome as that POV (though I rode it after the trim brakes were placed on the first drop). Thanks everyone! I am actually a little surprised that this last post has generated this many comments and interest because I sort of pulled it out of my a$$ as something quick to get on the thread since I have been a little slow with updating. But since there seems to be some interest, let’s run with it. Here is some Super 8 footage I shot at the park back in 1980 and I will follow that up with the 1993 Getaway Guide. Phantom George
Wow! 1992 was my first ever visit to Cedar Point. I was 14 and I can remember getting that getaway guide and looking at it over and over again. I remember riding Mean Streak and it being the only time I ever enjoyed it. Hard to believe that Magnum was the biggest there at the time!!
Phantom George
1993 I think Snake River Falls was the new ride if i remember correctly
galindoverhere
Did they still have the CP aquarium, wich by the way was removed for the construction of "Wicked Twister"? I think they should have kept it, it's sounds like a nice atraction to visit..
Philrad71
Wow...great memories there. Thanks for sharing, Shane! I used to have all of the Getaway Guides from the 90's, but I'm not sure if I still have them in my Dad's attic, or if he threw them away. I still remember the old school Cedar Point with the buzz bars & no seat belt on Blue Streak, the maroon train on Gemini, Oceana and Jungle Larry's. Actually, I think 1980 or 1981 may have been the first year I ever went to CP. Doesn't it look like the coasters ran a lot faster back then, or is it just the tape? Edit: ^ No, the aquarium was removed years ago, although the building still stands between Wicked Twister and Windseeker. It now houses an extreme sports/stunt show with skateboards and BMX bikes, I believe.
eddie200330
1993 I think Snake River Falls was the new ride if i remember correctly That is correct, my year working there. Ironically they seemed to have just as many technical issues with that as they did Shoot The Rapids before they finally got it right.
montezooma
Don’t judge the speed of the coasters by the Super 8 footage. It wasn’t the most accurate form of media back then…as a matter of fact you couldn’t even capture sounds. Seems so primitive but it was actually cutting edge for the time. According to the 1993 getaway guide, “Snake River Falls” was the new attraction. I will post that Getaway Guide tomorrow.
Movieguy
I remember the 93 Getaway guide! It was even helping to promote Crystal Pepsi, if I remember correctly.
montezooma
^ This is true as you will see in the 1993 Getaway Guide. I can't believe Crystal Pepsi didn't take off?!?! awesome picture!

Movieguy
I loved Crystal Pepsi. I'm surprised it didn't take off either. Speaking of Soda, if CP switched from Pepsi to Coca-Cola, do you think it would become a bigger favorite of Robb's?
Jew
Crystal Clear Pepsi is the only good product Pepsi ever had!
montezooma
Not to be outdone by Cedar Point, Kings Island came up with their own Getaway Guide. Here we see the introduction of Days Of Thunder in one of the worst locations of any amusement park attraction at a park.
