Jogumpie Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Hey everyone! In June I started building a HUGE recreation of the Intamin Megacoaster in Walibi World, Goliath. Together with two other guys (both 15; I'm 17), I am building the coaster and planning an event around it. The K'NEX company and Walibi World are assisting us, we actually got some extra pieces and it is most probably we are going to set up the whole model in the amusement park itself. We had to delay lots of stuff, causing us to be at the current state: A few parts have been built, like the station. About half of the ride has been designed or built before, so can be built again rather quickly. I started building the large helix in the middle of the ride. I do not have pictures of the helix I am building. I have pictures from earlier construction though.
CP_RULES Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Thats HUGE! Amazing man, I cant wait to see the finished product!
Fry Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 That looks amazing. I wish I could be bothered to do something like that And Goliath is such a good coaster, I really, really, really enjoyed it .
coastercrazy216 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 how manny screamin serpents do you own
christianscoasters Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 That is AWESOME! I've never seen a K'nex model so big! I usually don't use K'nex because it isn't that realistic, but this I like! Keep up the good work!
pianojohn Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Best of luck! For my 40th birthday a few years ago, friends of mine built two coaster models and it took them about 8 hours each! I can only imagine how long this model will take!
GMAN962 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Amazing. I wish I had that much time/determination. Right now I'm just focusing on photography, and getting a camera. Anyway back on topic, how long did that take you? Good luck with the rest of it! ~Mike "And Hey....what ever happened to that guy that was building El Toro?" J
Jogumpie Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 ^^^^^Like 7, plus 2 Rippin Rockets and lots of other sets. I have over 40k pieces myself. The other two guys both have like 4 coaster sets. ^^Well... we started in June, but had to stop in mid August. I don't have much time myself, since I am in the last year of high school. This means I will have to build as much as I again till mid January. And about that El Toro guy... he's cancelling lots of models. I don't expect so much from him. Back to the Goliath model: I am working on the helix as I said before. The highest point will be 11 yellow rods from the ground (121cm;48") and I have just reached the height of 3 yellow rods.
Jogumpie Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 Here are pictures of the, in my opinion bumpy, helix. I will try to use normal rods instead of flexi's for the track, this might remove the bumps.
coasterdude5 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Great work, these KNEX creations are so realistic, great job.
Jogumpie Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 are you sure its gonna fit? Walibi World offered quite some space for us to set it up. We will use a stage by the way.
NitroRider Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Youre putting it in the park! Wow! This is awesomely awesome! And its HUGE!
thomas2 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Zeer mooi en cool! Hopelijk kan ik ooit in het park geraken en hem in levende lijve zien! Sorry for the dutch...
Jogumpie Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 Rofl. We are aiming for a 3-day event: 28-29-30 april. So if you have a day off by then... I re-did the track and it is much smoother now.
coasterfreak11 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 That looks really good man. Hopefully you can pull this off. How come you have to make it soo big though? You can still make a realistic Goliath model without having it that large. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see it finished.
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 This model is looking awsome! But is it actually supposed to work or just be a model? Either way, great job
Thrillrider15 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Wow! I can't believe how big this is (the event). I'd be there at the event, but I live a long ways away.
Jogumpie Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 ^^^At first we wanted to build the tallest coaster, but I don't think it is original to try anymore. Many other people recommended building the longest coaster, so we started brainstorming. We chose Goliath, because it is a great coaster and it might give us the opportunity to set it up in the park itself. Our first goal was building a working model, and to make the coaster long, we chose for a 4,00m / 13ft lift hill. Getting the train over the first airtime hill was piece of cake, but that was the only good part. The turn and the Stengel dive drained energy from the train and we would have to lower the Stengel dive to approx. 1,50m / 5ft, in order to let the train make it over the top. Imagine how small the bunnyhops at the end of the ride would be... That is why we changed plans and started to build a full-scale model, which doesn't actually work. I know it really sucks it won't be working, but I also think it will look so much better when all the elements are at the right scale. Time for some specs (can be changed though): Lift hill height: 4,10m / 13 ft. 8" Airtime hill height: 3,00m / 10 ft. Stengel dive height: 2,40m / 8 ft. Diameter turnaround: 4,00m / 13 ft. 4" First bückel height: 1,70m / 5 ft. 8" Diameter helix: 4,00m / 13 ft. 4" Second bückel height: 1,20m / 4 ft. Bunny hops heights: 1,00m / 3 ft. 4"
verticalzero Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Excellent building work of one of my fav steel coasters, that's gonna be a huge ride when finished. It nearly takes up all of your house. Your have to post more pic's with your progress and finished ride. Will you strap a mini camera to the front and have a POV of the ride..? Good luck.
Jogumpie Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 ^I will update you as soon as I have more to show. I do have a mini camera and I will use it. I will have to edit a lot to make it look like it's working, because I will have to push the train at several points to make it go round. I strapped on a mini camera before and this is the result.
Satoshi Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 buildin' big stuffs are kinda blast and i once have made so big coaster in Legos and that stuff was the biggest of my works. yeah i was then gonna make Lego Huge Town like Big Apples and was gonna let you see how the Town works but mom had broken it into pieces lol! i was hopin' to make Big Apples with a roller coast theme park! hope you Jogumpie would have got complete European Goliath Ver in ya great works!!
Corkscrewed Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Wow, that is absolutely amazing and mammoth! Amazing job, you guys! And I love your other KNEX coaster vids. You've got a lot of patience and heart... and time. That's something I'd do if I had the time, but since I don't, watching these amazing videos will more than suffice!
de ja vu Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 WOW that must have been hard to build looks great.
