P. 275: "Spring Exposition" festival announced!

My vote still goes to a B&M Flying Coaster. With theming, and the terrain at SDC it could be an amazingly, well themed, (possibly) thrilling addition to the park.

A launched B&M wing coaster would be awesome IMO. I loved Thunderbird. A dive coaster would be equally as good, and would give some great theming opportunities.

I also feel like a standard Wing coaster with traditional lift is the most likely option that they went with just based on what they are comfortable with and what they would try to market. That's just my rough feeling of what they would go for, but I'm usually wrong. I'm not a huge fan of the "standard" wing coasters, so I'd be happy with anything else. I think they got a huge amount of praise for Wild Eagle just because of the location and the novelty of it at the time, and as we've stated many times before they do work hard to duplicate successful additions.

I really wish they get a longer ride, because all the coasters at SDC are really short, with their longest being 3,500 ft, they also don't really have an airtime dedicated ride, so I think the best choice would be a hyper but that unfortunately isn't very likely.

I really wouldn't consider Powderkeg a "short" coaster. And wildfire is a decent length.

Have you been on Outlaw Run?? That coaster is all about airtime. You spend more time out of your seat than you spend in your seat.

I've been expecting SDCs next coaster to be a wing coaster for a while now based off of some info I received back in June/July from another poster on this site, but who knows if that has changed. Now that I look through the ideas on this site, I now think that it would be really cool if the park could do a dive coaster with the dive going down the huge hill between Wildfire and Powder Keg. Then they could possibly do a launch (first launched dive coaster?) back to the top of the hill.

I'm personally expecting a B&M Invert. I've been expecting that for many seasons now. But, I actually hope it will be a B&M Hyper if for no other reason, so that SFStL can be out of excuses lol!

No dedicated airtime rides? I'm sorry but doesn't almost all major coasters at the park have airtime? Outlaw Run and Powder keg are 90% airtime Anyways, I think I got what you are saying. Your talking about rides like B&M hyper coasters which are just straight out and back and serious if airtime hills.

Going to be heading out to sdc for the first time in May and looks like I have enough time to spend two full days at the park. My question is is there enough to do there for two full days.

Going back to this for a second

Even if you are an adrenaline / coaster junkie - you can easily spend 2 days at SDC. Trust me on this. There is so much to do and so much to see that during our last visit to Branson - we spend almost three days at the park and never became bored.

I agree. I went and spent 2.5 days by myself at the park during spring break of 2014, didn't see many shows and had a blast. The park has so many different areas it was nice to be able to relax and enjoy the park and get plenty of rides on all the coasters and other quality flats, plus the cave is a great experience. Also, going 2 days will help you experience more of the awesome food at the park!!!!!

I only remember 3ish airtime moments on Outlaw, sure they are great but it isn't a floater airtime machine. And with the rides not being long, they really are pretty short, Powder Keg isn't that long, you just spend a lot of time on the ride due to the transfer up to the launch and the lift. I just want a B&M hyper over 5,000 ft of track. Don't get me wrong, I love Outlaw to death but it's over in 30 seconds

I really don't see a B&M. Hyper coaster fitting in at SDC (of course I could be wrong). . . But while we are talking about wants. . . I just want a 25,000 ft long 2,000mph, launched, inverted, Intamin, aqua trax, polar coaster, with 1,984.6 inversions. All completed in a modest 45 minutes of ride time.

I count 6 minimum

I count 6 minimum

After rewatching the POV and re-riding the coaster in my mind I can come up with 8 spots that I know have airtime, and two places that I am about 98% positive have airtime. That's a little bit more than 3.

I still vote for a B&M flyer. Very heavily themed! Maybe... a LAUNCHED B&M Flyer! (Though, I doubt it would be launched having Powder Puff near by and all.)

Posted

A launched B&M flyer just might have the worst capacity of any B&M anywhere. The trains would have to be way shorter because B&M trains are super heavy (hence Thunderbird) and launched coasters are just naturally lower capacity anyways because of the blocking system. Tack on the super-slow loading of flying coasters (at least at SF parks--there's a reason Cedar Fair stays away from those) with 4-5 car trains...

That's not even considering whether or not it's realistic to launch a flyer at all because of the position of the riders. Similar to how Falcon's Fury rotates to perpendicular before braking, and how uphill launches (like Lightning Rod) can't be as powerful because it's working against gravity.

Excuse the physics talk but I don't see a launched flyer anytime soon. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

It won't be a flyer

Your posts always make me chuckle

You're welcome. I just grow tired of speculation that is so far out in left field that I have to wonder if the writer of the post is completely delusional or trolling for responses. Sad part is, on here it could definitely be either or.

Can you please explain to me how a B&M Flying coaster is "So far out in left field?" Maybe a launched B&M Flying coaster is a bit of a reach, but some one is going to have to do it eventually, so why not SDC? We are ALL speculating about what could be the next coaster at SDC, and I don't for one second see why a B&M Flying coaster is by any means unrealistic. (Aside from maybe the launched idea.)

You want to talk about left field... I don't think anyone ever expected SDC to get a coaster like Outlaw Run before it was leaked/rumored/announced. I mean, a wooden coaster, that goes upside down 3 times??? That's so far out in left field.

Also, if you "grow tired of speculation..." Then why are you the one who brought it up to begin with?? After all you were the one who said:

It's quickly becoming the worst kept secret in the state, but 2017 will be a BIG year for the park. Budget for the new coaster is being mentioned/rumored at $35-40M. Local tour companies that line up school tours to Branson already stating that 2017 is THE year to visit.

You are talking like this is going to be some world record breaking, amazing addition that everyone in the world should drop everything they are doing to go visit. If you are going to create hype like that, then don't get annoyed when people start speculating about things that might be a little different than what any park out there already has.

Again it won't be a flyer.

And if you had been following the park, Outlaw Run was not out in left field nor will this addition be

Looks like we will just have to wait and see.

Well you convinced me. It must be a launched flyer.

I'm pretty sure "reins" is not what you meant there but pretty amusing typo.

You must admit that your posts do tend to have the air of ex cathedra with none of the infallibility.

And it's not just here in the SDC thread. If you take a look at some of his other post in other threads it's about the same. He talks like he runs the parks and knows what's going on "behind the scenes" of every park. (With no credibility.)

Examples:

From the WOF Thread:

It also helps that we have a new PR person now. Eric reminds me a lot of Brandon. Very passionate and excited about the job. Racheal unfortunately was more interested in other things besides doing her job. Not sorry that she is gone.

From the VF thread:

You're not getting an RMC. I'm not even sure you'll get a B&M at this point.

I could go on like this all day, but I have to get to class. However, people in the other threads also get annoyed at him acting, and posting like he knows everything going on at every park, again, with no credibility.

Do like I'm learning to do and just ignore his post.

I will say I have from a reasonably reliable source that Herschend went to ride Fury 325 and loved it and whatever they're doing the GOAL with this new attraction is national attention. We may possibly be looking at a giga. Maybe not and only the park knows right now. but we do know its the largest investment in park history so far and SDC does good work so it's gonna be great either way! I will say this person told me SDC was building a wood coaster that goes upside down several years back and I screamed BS and had to eat my words so well see. . .
