Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

P. 275: "Spring Exposition" festival announced!

Recommended Posts

I was doing some thinking about how Outlaw Run will age. I highly doubt aging will be a problem with the track to do its insanely innovative engineering, but how will the trains age? I wonder if they will develop a rattle, or start getting sluggish. Though, I doubt no problems will surface because SDC's maintenance is amazing, what if some surprises surface?

I was suprised when I went how rough Outlaw Run was. After having ridden Twisted Colossus the week before, I didn't think the steel wheels would make that much of a difference. It wasn't rough like normal wood coaster, instead big jolts every so often, where as TC and Goliath are perfectly smooth. I even heard the GP talking about "how this one is a lot more shakey since it's wooden like Prowler"

We went today and noticed one train for OR produces very rough rides whereas the other train does not. (We rode twice back-to-back).

"Very rough" is a phrase that really can't be used to describe Outlaw Run. No, the ride isn't silky smooth like it was on opening day, but there are no huge jolts. A few bumps along the way, sure, but it is still smoother than any other woodie out there.

Did you sit in an even numbered row?? I have found that the odd number rows provide the most smooth ride.

For OR, these were very rough rides. I know you don't know me from Adam, but let's just say I'm well acquainted with OR and have been since its conception. Something's out of alignment with that train. Did not matter if the row was odd or even.

I can attest for this, when I rode Outlaw Run back in July the wheel seats provided a noticeably different ride than the non wheel seats. It was more of a "rough" ride. Granted, OR still is my favorite wooden coaster, whatever roughness exists is only because how freaking intense this coaster is, it's almost like the train goes too fast through the course.

Yall are crazy! Outlaw Run was fantastic. Not B&M smooth...duh! But smooth ride. I didn't feel a difference on one train vs the other. Probably got around 10 rides in. Never waited longer than 10 minutes. Insane airtime. I need a break from airtime for a while.

And the train sounds like an effing jet taking off. Wow! All the other coasters were GREAT! I think I liked TNT the second best.

Since it's conception? What, were you part of the RMC design team?

He's either:

1.) Just another troll.

-or-

2.) He's been following Outlaw Run since construction and the announcement, and suddenly thinks this makes him an engineer.

Aside from the issues that occasionally come up with trains, there are so many different things that can affect an individual's experience on a coaster that it's gotten ridiculous to even discuss "rough" rides on here anymore. I mean, there are some rides that just beat the crap out of you, but most of the time lately it seems like it's just a combination of personal taste, weather, and body characteristics that cause people to complain about rides. Some rides are more sensitive than others and will give great rides one day, then not so great rides a month later for whatever combination of reasons. I know I'm guilty of complaining about rides like Wild Eagle, but honestly I think I had a slight headcold that affected my ride more than anything.

OR has some moments where the train will vibrate or move horizontally on the track if the train isn't in perfect shape, but it's never very jarring to me. Considering the speed and elements, I've always been impressed with how it rides even when the wheels are worn down a bit.

I think it's been mentioned before, but anyone who is observant or has been watching the ride closely has surely noticed how much wood they've replaced already. Seems they used some cheap stuff in certain areas... guess that's how it only cost $10 million. Riding the train you can occasionally spot some pieces that are completely bent out of shape.

if you wanna ride a rough coaster go to Carowinds- Carolina Cobra, Hurler, Nighthawk- take your pick. i doubt an RMC could be "rough", maybe the issue you guy's are talking about could solved by SDC switching OR to poly wheels? Lightning Rod is gonna use them.

You guys are getting all defensive over nothing.

The complaint that was mentioned is that some riders had been experiencing "rougher than normal" rides on one of the two trains. They aren't saying OR is rough. Just when you are used to silky smooth rides from OR and you get jostled more than usual on one train and not the other then people question "why"

Woohoo! Finally made it to Branson today.

Very excited about visiting SDC tomorrow and maybe saturday for a couple of hours and finally ride one of our most anticipated coasters....outlaw run!

Any TPR members at the park tomorrow or saturday? Will be nice to meet someone with the same passion we have from another continent[emoji12].

Paul and Peggy

Carolina Cobra and Nighthawk are not rough at all. Maybe you mean Cyclone instead of Cobra?

^ i did mean Cyclone, "my bad", but i have to disagree with you about Nighthawk. it was non-stop rough from start to finish, alot of folks consider it to be one of the worst Vekoma flyers, "i haven't ridden any others", but i really didn't enjoy this one. "i mean, i guess i enjoyed it for the experience, but when i was there, once was enough." Fury and Intimadator were walk-on's, no need to go back to that ancient torture device.
