P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

And we have our idiot of the day here. They had to shut down mean streak because someone decided it would be a great idea to take out there cell phone.

Of all coasters at the park. . . Who needs to pull out their phone to prove that they rode Mean Streak?? I mean. . . It's... Mean Streak.

I also rode VR Iron Dragon today. It was pretty cool. Not sure I got the story line. There was a horse and carriage, which was our train. As we were climbing a steep incline in with our horse and carriage we are snatched up by some creature that fly which creatures on the ground try to attack you. It was very immersive. If you look in any direction while riding you will find there is something attempting to attack you.

Yeah, you lost me some where around "a steep incline in with our horses and carriage we are snatched up by some creature that fly which creatures on the ground try to attack you." Not really sure what you were trying to say.

Anywho, I can't wait to try out VR on Iron Dragon this coming Saturday!!

^Regarding phones on lift hills and other idiotic things... Earlier this month in line for MF some asshat unbuckled their seatbelt as the train was leaving the station. The ride op caught it right as the train was passing by and they stopped the train about 1/2 way up the lift hill for 25 mins. Had several supervisors including one guy who looked like he was a former bouncer and wasn't messing around, plus and I think every security guard in the park and actual police people too. Eventually the train went and once back in the station the guy got questioned and taken away. Why people feel the need to pull out phones, mess with restraints, flip the bird for ride photos I'll never know. I wish they'd throw the book at these people.

Because, you know... Hashtag YOLO.

I wish they'd throw the book at these people.

That's a much nicer way of saying what I was thinking should be done to those people!

It comes down to the same reason why a retailer will do an exchange on a broken product even though the item was clearly broken due to misuse/customer's fault. They don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

What a waste of time. As a former Cedar Point ride host for 5 years, I can assure you that damn near every train on any coaster that gets dispatched has at least one passenger holding onto their phone. Most riders are smart enough to pull it out after they've cleared the station - this person wasn't. And you know what? That phone is safer in a person's hand than it is in some loose-fitting pocket where it isn't being held onto. Out of the hundreds of people I have told to come back to the ride at the end of the night to see if we found their phone, damn near all of them say it flew right out of their pocket. Cedar Point ride hosts just think it's fun to go up and confiscate a person's phone.

Understand what you're saying and agree to an extent that they want to be careful, however safety for others on ride is a huge issue. Can't tell you how many times on El Toro I've almost gotten smacked in the head by phones being out, hats, you name it. I did get hit by a hat one time several years ago on a coaster and was able to grab it. Once in the station the guy saw I had it and thought it was hilarious - I read him the riot act and whacked him good and hard with it. I may be small but I'm mighty and I don't want to get a concussion because you think it's funny to turn your hat around front at the top of the lift. People get bent out of shape about taking pics from the ferris wheel or skyride yet use on actual dangerous rides are the new norm. Think not!

I hear ya, but who's to say that you've dodged items that people had out or that flew out of a pocket. Listen, I get why parks do what they do. They can't come right out and tell you to hold onto your phone. Ideally no one would have any items in their pockets OR their hands, but that's unrealistic short of pulling a Universal and making riders submit to a full body cavity search and metal detector. Rides like El Toro and Magnum (airtime machines) are the problematic rides when it comes to items flying out of peoples' pockets. Most guests' line of reasoning is that it doesn't go upside down, so it'll be fine in my pocket. It's the airtime that makes them fly out - inversions for the most part will keep a phone secured by positive g-forces. Funny thing is that on Mean Streak, the phone could probably have sat in an empty seat and be just fine since the ride is so slow and boring

The phones are really becoming a problem in society. But I guess that the occasional lift stop is better than forced locker usage and wanding people like Morey's Piers does. I almost got injured by a phone on Millennium Force by someone who dropped their phone and it came flying towards me. Luckily it hit my hand, not my face, because it stung a little.

The biggest annoyance that I had this year was not getting to ride Maxair. The ride op E-stopped the ride to nicely tell the moron to "not do it again". He couldn't get the ride to reset, so it had shut down for the rest of the day.

Sucks, eh? The harsh reality is that it's 2016. Everyone has gotten a trophy for doing nothing and society has enabled people to think they can do whatever they want without consequences, despite how their actions effect others.

Sucks just to be around these people, eh? Try policing them.

can't stand people who take out cell phones on rides, it's just blatant disrespect for park safety. What also sucks is if somehow their phone flies out of their hand and injures somehow, the park is liable and not the idiot with the phone.

It sucks all around.

Switching topics, what's the concert venue like at CP? Where is it located specifically? Is it assigned seats or more like random benches? Details and/or google earth shots appreciated. TIA!

Unfortunately for me I actually got hit by a phone on El Toro's first airtime hill during one of my visits last year. I had a red rectangle on my arm for the rest of the day. I must say that I have got lucky too one el toro, sitting near the back has added an element of watching out for phones, sunglasses, and wallets. On my last trip alone I saw a wallet and 2 iPhones fly by. As unsafe as it is I can't see six flags or cedar fair doing Universals metal detectors to make sure of no loose items

And when people don't get their way, they get all sue happy and demand all this free stuff.

I've never heard of a concert venue at CP besides the Luminosity stage

Exactly. There is no concert arena at CP like they have at some of the other parks. Luminosity and the Extreme Wheels stunt show arena is it for show "venues" other than the Jack Aldridge theater, and the two saloons (Lusty Lil's & Red Garter).

And yes, we had the same cell phone BS happen to us just as we were getting ready to board Maverick during our last visit. The train did a roll back and the employee walked up the stairs, took the persons cell phone and brought it back to the station. During that time, the ride op made sure to stress "No cell phone use is permitted on this ride, or any other ride at CP" several times. It also stacked the trains for about 15 minutes because everything had to be reset after the roll back.

There was also one time that I almost got hit by a cell phone below Dragster. Walking down the path towards Magnum and one dropped and shattered into pieces, missing me by about a foot.

^ I think that's only for Jesusfest or whatever that Christian concert is that they set up during Halloweekends. Have they ever had any type of big name act do a concert back there? I don't seem to recall any concerts back there but that one, but I could be wrong.
