Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

And I wouldn't worry about the swim-up bar. I have a feeling that it's a huge cash cow for the water park.

You're right...there is always a pretty large crowd of adults there. And throw in the fact that they get close to $10 a drink (a little less for beer), it certainly wouldn't make sense for them to get rid of it when it doesn't take up a lot of space and brings the park more money.

What if cedar point got a dueling 4d coaster? Two zac spins next to each other with a different layout from Green Lanturn and Insane. Maybe slightly longer and more intense. A dueling zac spin would just increase the capacity for they probably have awful capacity since it is 8 per train. I'm not sure how much one would cost let alone two, but they shouldn't be too pricy for they are small and they would be using the same support structure.

Awful idea! I feel like this is the type of coaster small parks get because there are relatively cheap and can fit in perfect at a small park. Sorta like screaming squirrels.

Unless your Magic Mountain and your looking to squeeze in a coaster to raise your count.

Maybe they should just shut down Wildwater Kingdom and move Liquid Lightning (Proslide Tornado) and Thunder Falls (Whitewater tube/body slide complex) to CP. It seems they don't have any desire to add anything there.

I would rather Soak City close, move those slides to Wildwater Kingdom, and use the space the Water Park currently occupies for Dry Park expansion. That is the true draw for CP and I doubt it would upset too many guests.

^ I have seen the water park insanely busy quite a bit and it helps round out the resort. I highly doubt Soak City is going away any time soon.

They did add Dragster H2O a few years ago. But agree, I wish they would focus some more onto the water park.

^ No and I don't think they ever will. There may or may not be any safety concerns with that, but regardless it would be an unnessecary promotion because TTD gets plenty of attention after 10 (soon to be 11) years of running.

I'm not saying that the ride lacks attention, I'm just saying it would be a cool way to ride it. I guess I don't have authority over this since I never got my TTD credit Hoping to go to CP this summer though!

Has Cedar Point ever launched TTD backwards as a promotional thing? It would be a great way to market.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Sai8SKmbc

Then again, that seems more like a Six Flag-ish thing to do, so I'd think Great Adventure would do it with Kingda Ka.

There's no way in hell this will ever happen. Ever. Not only does it make absolutely no sense but it removes the sensation of speed / wind in your face, would require that the trains be re-designed so the cable would catch, would change the aerodynamics of the trains and would probably cause a ton of breakdowns and mechanical issues on a ride that they are finally starting to make semi-reliable.

Just so you know, a friend of my parents tried to book a site in the electric only part of the camp ground and the receptionist said that part was closed (not for the off season!), so what are they planning on doing there, all I can think of is

1. Soak City expansion

2. Redoing those sites to be like the newer concrete sites.

Any other ideas?

It would require some sort of forehead strap or something to make it comfortable. Plus, its not that necessary. Not to say it wouldn't be interesting - maybe turn part of the train around a la Swarm?

I think OTSR would be necessary. But then, I do not think the ride needs that sort of alteration as it's all about the launch (which backwards would feel awkward) and the speed/height sensation.

TTD's acceleration is too high to protect your neck from getting hurt, even with OTSR's. Remember how riders are not allowed to put their hands up while the train is launching? It's never going to happen unless the acceleration is around Mr. Freeze which is only around 0.8 m/s but the launch track is clearly too short for that.

Now, if MF turns backwards with higher cable lift speed...

Certain sections of the campground are closed durring the slower times of the year. By the way, with all the silly rules this campground has, we will never stay there again.

No camp fires? Really?

It's the week before the 4th of July so I doubt that would be too slow to open that part of the camp ground (I can see that in may).

I guess they do this so that nobody hurts them due to acceleration forces but it's not so intense that riders wouldn't be able to hold them when the train launches. I always had my hands up and it was perfectly fine. It demands a lot more arm strength to hold them during pretzel loops (which probably reach 4 Gs or more) than a less than 2 Gs launch.

I mean the instantaneous acceleration. TTD has a pretty high instantaneous acceleration but the continuous acceleration is not too high. I too, can put my hands up during the launch with no problem. But when head moving forward too hast during the instantaneous launch, I'm sure injuries will happen in the opening day and CP would be sue to death. California Screamin' level is fine for backwards launch but TTD is too intense.

^Yeah you're right. I mean, I would be totally against having a backwards TTD as the ride would lose a lot (in my opinion) and doesn't need anything to "improve" it right now. I was just mentioning that I find it a bit necessary that they say "arms down" on rides like TTD and Kingda Ka.
