SharkTums Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Hey Dave, We will be getting 14 day JR Passes. We will use them Sat - Fri. So if you come in on Saturday, that will be fine for you to go ahead and activiate it and use it to get up to Tokyo. If people are going to come in Early or stay late, they will have to decide if you would like to upgrade to a 21 day pass (an extra $120). (There is not an option to just add on a day or two). You will have to figure out how much the train would be without the rail pass to see if it's worth it or not. For us, it is not worth it to buy the extra days, because we will be in Tokyo the last few days and will just pay for local trains/subways and one way to the airport. Hope this helps.
abc2001 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 What time is the chat? I read the times you gave but I can't figure it out. If it's 9pm on the east coast, I think thats 2am in the UK but I'm not sure - anyone know?
Carnage Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 5 hour differance. So 9PM est is 2am in the UK. For instance I've still got my secondary watch setting on UK time. It's 3:15 PM here, 8:15 in the UK.
SideWindZ Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Aww man.. i want to go to japan.. but me not money enough.. But the spain trip might be within my reach...
AJMouse Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I won't be able to make it to the chat, gotta go to bed now: reaaal early morning for work tomorrow. Ill read the transcript (didnt have any questions at this point anyway ^^ )
abc2001 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I'm still on uni holidays, but I have to go to sleep at some ponit. I'll try and make though, if not It'll just have to be the transcript. (it's 00:12 right now)
Chris Benvenuto Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Hey, Now looking at it, The USA trip doesn't look too bad. I do hope we get ERT on TTD and Magnum. I'll ask my folks, reserve a spot for me!! I mean if their aviliable as of this post.
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Hey, Now looking at it, The USA trip doesn't look too bad. I do hope we get ERT on TTD and Magnum. I'll ask my folks, reserve a spot for me!! I mean if their aviliable as of this post. To be honest, Magnum is not a ride I would ask for ERT on. Maverick, TTD, MF, Wicked Twister, MaXair - either lower capacity or very popular rides, yes. But why Magnum? You can pretty much ride that anytime with little to no wait. --Robb "This isn't 1996 anymore where people WANT Magnum ERT!" Alvey
mcjaco Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 ^ Ture dat. Except for maybe some of us losers that haven't been to CP yet.....
matteocrepaldi Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Are we seriously going to have ERT on these rides??? I just can't believe it!!!
ParkTrips Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 NOTHING has been confirmed at this point, and will not be until very cloe to the trip. Also, remember that things can change last-minute and that no amount of ride time is guaranteed.
matteocrepaldi Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I know but I would have said the same thing for Corckscrew and Cedar Creek Mine Ride. It's just the the idea of ERT that gets me so excited!!!
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Are we seriously going to have ERT on these rides??? I just can't believe it!!! Please don't take when I say "Ask for ERT" to mean "We HAVE ERT." We are still working out the details. Most of the parks are still working on closing out their season and we really won't begin the discussions of the event details until the start of the new year. Keep in mind that ERT is an expensive thing to add on to any event, so when we go in to work out our event with them, we would choose which coasters, if even within the trips budget, to purchase ERT on. Magnum will NOT be one of our first choices! Especially when you can go on the ride pretty much any time you want to without having to wait in a long line. --Robb "Everyone thinks these perks are free...which is a HUGE misconception about park events." robbalvey Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Transcript from last nights (9/18) chat has been posted: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=245458#245458 --Robb
AJMouse Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Thanks for that! I was hoping for it to show up tonight ^^ edit: read through it, really enlighting. jarmor [6:07pm]: electrical outlets...I heard they are different in Japan... SharkTums [9:19pm]: I'll let Robb take that one, since he's our resident electrical dude! robbalvey [9:20pm]: The 2-prong electrical outlets are the same in Japan, but if you have any 3-prong plugs you'll need to get a standard 3 to 2 prong adapter. We have brought laptops, cameras, chargers, etc to Japan and plugged them right into the wall with no problem. There will be a section on this in the guide that we'll produce for the participants of the Japan trip. This doesn't matter for my phone (I'm not bringin one (or keeping it switched 'on') because it doesn't work there), but it would concern a laptop (if I even consider bringing one) or my camera. I'm from NL and we have different sockets here than Japan or US (or UK).. so I was wondering if anyone could help me with some pictures on this subject since a Google image search on 'japanese sockets' doesn't really work for me since I don't know what to trust ^^ Thanks again.
gisco Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 ^ Go here for pics of plugs. The Japanese is just like the American 2 pin plug. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Electrical_plug
gotdane Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Twister II [10:30pm]: When scheduling flights for the Midwest would we leave earlier in the day, or later in the evening to see if we'd have to come a day before? SharkTums [10:31pm]: Twister, the trip will end LATE Sunday night, you will have to schedule a flight for the next day Twister II [10:32pm]: I mean for flights INTO, should we arrive a day before, or would that morning work? SharkTums [10:32pm]: Twister, you'll have to arrive the night before, or take a redeye that would get you in super early...but keep in mind, there are ALWAYS flight delays...I would recommend everyone get there the day before You're talking about the day/night of August 2nd, right?
OldJJman Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Also, remember that things can change last-minute and that no amount of ride time is guaranteed. I mean, really. Who knew that we'd get 3 HOURS on BALDER with beer and hammers?? Who knew?? JJ
thecoasterkid Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I'm getting more and more excited about going on this Mid-West trip now! I REALLY hope that it doesn't have to go to a lottery! The only questions that I have so far are really only related until closer to the trip once the group forum has been opened up, so I'll just continue to hold off until then! Robb and Elissa, you guys have been great at giving us every imaginable (ok, almost every) piece of information we need, and people have been asking some great questions too. Keep up the good work everyone!
AJMouse Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 ^ Go here for pics of plugs. The Japanese is just like the American 2 pin plug. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Electrical_plug Okay, I think my camera came with such a plug. Thanks for that URL.
abc2001 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I'm waiting for my student loan before I can put down a despoit ( for the midwest), I know it's leaving it late but i'm confident I can meet the deadline still EDIT: I really want to go to the midwest, but I think overall the Japan trip will be more of an adventure, so at the moment I'm looking at that. Only downside is the 13 hour flight from london........
nesdude Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Well, well, well. Talked this entire Midwest trip over with my parents. If you would of asked me a year ago if I could of convinced them to let me go, I never would of believed that they would let me. But - yay - they did. So... the only issue now is making sure the check gets in on time. Not sure if it'll be through snail mail or PayPal, but one way or another, the payment will get there. Can't wait to meet all of you going on the Midwest trip! -nesdude
jarmor Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Well we be able to get an itemize list of expenses?
downunder Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I just put in my deposit for the mid west trip, was thinking about Japan but decided to do the shorter trip - hope I get on. Let's see if the voyage is better than the mighty bull El Toro (which I loved). I just got back from the US 2 days ago and I am already planning the next jaunt.
timetrial3141592 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 How many are in the Japan trip so far?
