apollo210 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 ^^ Its really a suspended, not inverted because the cars swing from side to side.
FlyingScooter Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 i would count that one as much as i would count SFMM SuperMan as a coaster.
robbalvey Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I personally would not count an Alpine Coaster as a "credit" but I could see why other people would. IMO, it's just not a "roller coaster experience" it's more like an Alpine Slide, which IMO is closer to a dry water slide than it is a roller coaster. And if you're going to count this one, why not count all the other Alpine Slides? Some of them even do have lift hills (Oakwood). You could make the comparison that an Alpine Slide isn't much different than riding an Intamin Bobsled by yourself. You're in a single car. There's a trough-like track. And there are lots of brakes! And if you're going to count Alpine Slides, why not count water slides? And if you're going to count water slides, why not count rolling down a hill on roller blades? Crap. I don't wanna give Jeff Johnson any ideas! My point is, somewhere you have to draw the line of what is and isn't a roller coaster, an IMO, an Alpine Slide, regardless if it's on a track or not, is not a "roller coaster" so therefore I wouldn't count it. But there are no rules for how to count so it's totally up to you. I know people that count Freefalls, log flumes and dark rides too! --Robb "I wonder when people will start adding Master Blasters to their count?" Alvey
LOVE SFKK Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 IMO i would count that as a coaster but i agree with rob that its like an experience. Kinda like the virtual roller coasters at malls and arcades. Oh yah that suspended coaster is totally awesome!!!!!
CKY Lunatic Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I do not count Alpine Slides, but I do count Mountain/Alpine Coasters.
mr_teisco_delrey Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 --Robb "I wonder when people will start adding Master Blasters to their count?" Alvey For that matter, how about enema bottles?
BeemerBoy Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 So is it safe to presume the Flying Turns will spark the same debate?
Ryan King Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I really do agree with what Robb and pete4winds Said. They ARE your own credits and you count them they way you want to! I rode the Alpine Slide In Oakwood And I wouldnt really count it. But these are MY credits! So Like what Robb Said, somewhere oyu have to draw the line. I personally dont count them. but its up to you! -Ryan
chaos Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I think there should be two types of ways two count credits. The real, conservative way, and the way Jeff Johnson does it. That way people would stop arguing about this stuff.
robbalvey Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 So is it safe to presume the Flying Turns will spark the same debate? I doubt it. IMO, that falls in the same category as a Mack or Intamin Bobsled and the experience is far more like a "roller coaster" in my opinion than an Alpine slide. --Robb
TheStig Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 ^All flying turns is, is pretty much a wooden bobsled, so why wouldent it count? It rolls, it coasts, there you go! Personially, I would count both the alpine slide and the alpine coasters as credits. The slide to me is a miniture single rider per car bobsled, only you have to stop it yourself. Colin C
Jack57 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I remember seeing the ride moving in a video clip that someone posted, and showed in accident. It looks like a coaster to me.
robbalvey Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 ^All flying turns is, is pretty much a wooden bobsled, so why wouldent it count? It rolls, it coasts, there you go! Personially, I would count both the alpine slide and the alpine coasters as credits. The slide to me is a miniture single rider per car bobsled, only you have to stop it yourself. Because my newly made up rule is "The more you have to justify it being a coaster, then it's probably not a coaster." If you walked up to a random member of the general public at Winter Park Ski Resort and asked them "Hey, did you ride the roller coaster?" They would most likely respond "What roller coaster? Oh, you mean the Alpine Slide?" Thus, it's not a roller coaster! At least not to me. But hey, if you want to count it, knock yourself out! There are no rules for counting and like I said, I know people who count Freefalls, log flumes, dark rides, and other silly things that the general public, and most parks and ride manufacturers for that matter, would not consider a roller coaster either. --Robb "Who doesn't want to pad my count with log flumes, alpine slides, or mater blasters." Alvey
Carnage Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 "If it rolls and coasts" Well then some of us UKrs could also count the roller carts at Lightwater Valley as credits. I always just go by a case by case basis and make a judgement call. If ride XXX to me seems like a coaster then I count it, if not I don't. Simple. No real method to my madness.

Alvey Haha woops, that first sentence was agreeing with you, the rest was me rambling on about nothing really important. But I see your point.. Colin C
QueerRudie Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 It looks pretty cool to me- something that would be good for any backyard, provided there's a mountain in it.
apollo210 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I have a forst hill in my backyard, I would LOVE ONE!
Stitch Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Check out this Alpine Slide it has a lift hill and it just plain awesome
verticalzero Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I would say "yes" it does count as a "coaster", it has a lift hill / ski lift and gravity allows you to travel along the circuit.
Reon Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 My criteria for a non traditional coaster to count as a credit (-launchers, since they dont need lifts) *Full curcuit track *Gravity powered hill or dip *Lift hill As such, the only flume I would count would be Dudley, since it has atleast 2 gravity powered dips or hills. For dark rides, haunted houses like the one at Camden (which begins with a lift, turn around, and a large dip, before goig into a set of downhill switchbacks. I classify it as a ghetto-wild mouse...) As for alpines, I say this one counts....
downunder Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I definitely think they should count for no better reason than it means two more credits for me. Seriously they do have a lifthill and they use gravity in the same a bobsled coaster does (as Robb observed), so definitely maybe - my head's for it but not my heart - they are fun though.
