Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^ Agreed. We're going to make the nine-hour drive this summer, but it's honestly mostly for MOA, with Valleyfair as a "while we're in the area...." type of attraction. That said, I'm very excited to get to experience this park. Maybe nothing there is any different from other things I've already ridden, but it looks like a good time nonetheless.

Might as well hit up COMO Town while you're up there AND if you're up for it, the Alpine Coaster at Spirit Mountain in Duluth is worth a trip up there.

I get it. You're a fan boy of VF and that's cute. However the ride selection is bigger and better at WOF. There is not a single attraction at VF that does not have an equal (if not better) attraction it can be compared to at WOF - and the sad part is that even covers Haunt.

I get it. You are a fan boy of WoF and that's precious. However you prefer it to any park that doesn't have a giga. There is not a single ride at WoF that will bring in crowds from across the country unlike the parks you consider WoF to be equal to (if not better) - and the sad part is you have been forcing your opinion on us for more than five pages.

Xtreme Swing>any non coaster WoF has

Wrong (but it is a fantastic ride)

Entrance of VF: doesn't look like a gas station

Well, true.

High Roller> Timberwolf

Maybe true a couple of years ago, but since the GCI retracking has made the ride a lot better.

and renegade honestly seems better than prowler.

Dead wrong. Unless you prefer a rough ride over dirt than a smoother ride racing through a forest.

PT>Detonator

This one is the one that pisses me off. You know why? It's DEAD wrong. I didn't want to say anything beforehand because I didn't want to be rude, but PT is complete ASS. I've had better forces on Steelhawk. That ride is garbage and literally every non-fanboy knows it. Detonator might not be the best tower ride, but the ejector off the first launch is epic. I've seen POV videos where you can see people hopping out of their seat on the thing. I swear to god, I've had a better time on the Kite Eating Tree in Planet Snoopy than on PT, no lie.

I really didn't want to start this up again because I didn't want to be to rude or intruding, but starting to sh*t talk a park for no reason in a forum is just ridiculous. It would be a little obnoxious if a CP fanboy compared WOF vs CP (even though he'd be right) but when you have VF as a home park it's just laughable. Even if you feel it's a better, it's not monumentally better like you claim.

THAT'S IT WE BAN YOU FROM POWTOW ISLAND. GET YOUR BUTT AS FAR AWAY FROM OUR TOWERS AS POSSIBLE.

Or how about we send all PowTow haters up for a night watch on top of the tower. Only way to go up and down is the way maintenance does it: on top of the carts.

Just saying, I don't see a ride at Valley fair that will bring in crowds from across the country either, not to mention Prowler was ranked #1 new best ride in 2009, beating out rides like Diamondback, Manta, iSpeed, etc...

Really? I "forced" my opinion on "us"? Didn't realize I held such authority and power.

How about this. Take your butthurt to bed and get over the fact that most of the amusement community does not think that Valleyfair is the most amazing place in the world like you do. Sure WOF isn't the most spectacular park either but at least it has coasters that claim major honors. TimberWolf was ranked #1 coaster in the world. Prowler was ranked best new ride in 2009. I don't remember VF ever having a prestigious title bestowed upon any of its rides... but you know what, that's fine. Most parks in the chain haven't either.

But regarding your post, at least you tried - but let's cool it on the hyperbole

Wow, butthurt hypocrite.
it's not monumentally better like you claim
it's 125 feet better and it also has a whole other tower.
I swear to god' date=' I've had a better time on the Kite Eating Tree in Planet Snoopy than on PT, no lie. [/quote']How can i even take you seriously?
but when you have VF as a home park it's just laughable.
Oh I get it. You are rating people based on their home park. What does that have to do with anything? That is totally screwed up.
I've seen POV videos where you can see people hopping out of their seat on the thing.
Um.. I have ridden power tower it makes my stomach drop I float in my seat, it is amazing. I have ridden a variety of drop towers including PT (CP) and Demon Drop at SFGAm and I consider the S&S models superior. Comparing the two they have equal forces. I think we better seal off this discussion now, it is not going anywhere and no one is going to convince anyone anything. This is turning into a vicious cycle of arguments. My opinions remain the same and that's that. I respect your opinions but I do not respect how you are bashing my home park and accusing me of doing that to yours when I am just defending mine and HAVE NOT said anything about WoF like you fanboys have about VF.

Wow! vicious aren't we? I just have to point out one thing. Phantom poster mentioned that Valleyfair has never had a prestigious title bestowed upon it. I'm not sure what qualified as prestigious but without the success of Wild Thing, Mamba may never have been built. Wild Thing was the first Morgan hyper and it was the 5th tallest coaster in the world when it opened. It also currently holds the record for the longest low gravity section of any coaster. After the first drop that second hill is amazing. I also get a kick out of the fact that an airport height restriction kept Power Tower from being even taller. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this season and upcoming seasons because Cedar Fair has mention several times now that Valleyfair has been earmarked as a growth park. The past few years have been laying the ground work for this. Cedar Fair has pumped in more than 30 million in the past 7 or so years, so to say they have done nothing is just plain wrong!

I thought that the post you referenced was clear enough.

One could also argue that without Detonator, Power Tower would not exist.

Also mentioned in the thread several times is how you VF fanboys keep pointing at the "growth park" comment as the "source" for the foaming. The fact is, VF has received the same or lower in terms of capital expenditures when compared to other parks in the chain since the comment was first made. One would think if the company was serious about it you would have seen a significant increase in CES but that's not been the case. Really hard to market infrastructure improvements

Wasn't CGA mentioned as a third growth park after Carowinds and Valleyfair? Carowinds has completed the bulk of their expansion and CGA just spilled the beans on an absolutely monstrous long term expansion. Just because the growth isn't all at once/immediate like Carowinds doesn't mean it isn't happening. I think 2015 was year one and there are a few years left of $10+ million investments.

The CGA expansion is something to look at. But I question what the timeline is on their expansion compared to when the initial report was made that Carowinds, Valleyfair, and CGA were mentioned as growth parks. The question is: is this a new thing at CGA, or is the announcement born from the land disputes with the city? I know that Cedar Fair has a lease on the park until 2072 so how long is this expansion spread out? And with this recent announcement, what will happen first after Carowinds? CGA or VF?

I'm guessing the CGA thing was announced in order to entice the city to help them in the future. I'm guessing their plans are spread over 10 to 15 years. If all this happened in 5 years, it would make Carowind's expansions look like Michigan Adventure's new petting zoo.
