yankees15 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Has anyone ever experienced or seen a rollback on storm runner?
coasterguy618 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I highly doubt it ever rolled back. Smaller Intamin rockets usually don't but I'm not 100% percent sure.
okinawaboy11 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Good question, Storm Runner is the only rocket I have ever heard of not rolling back.
apollo210 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Don't give advice to a Yankees Fan. Â But I never heard of it rolling back.
SharkTums Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I highly doubt it ever rolled back. Smaller Intamin rockets usually don't but I'm not 100% percent sure. Â Kanonen is the smallest Intamin Rocket and it rolls back SEVERAL times each day!
okinawaboy11 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 ^ From those videos that ya'll posted it sure as hell looked like it, but Storm Runner usually almost flies over the top.
ECZenith Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I'm sure when they were testing the ride for the first time they intended for the train to not make it over the top and that the brakes were functioning properly. There's had to at least been a few occasions where it just didn't make it over too.
yankees15 Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 I’ve always heard stories about other rocket coasters rolling back but non about Storm Runner. So I’ve always wondered about Storm Runner.
Wes Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Storm Runner uses a new type of technology that prevents roll-backs. If the cable doesn't push the coaster to the correct speed by a certain point, a can of baked beans on a string is dropped under the track, where a group of hungry hobos run after it. The kinetic energy of hundreds of hobos chasing after the beans powers the launch system the rest of the way. Â The hobos, unfortunately, never get those delicious beans.
Twister II Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Good question, Storm Runner is the only rocket I have ever heard of not rolling back. Rita?
Oni Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I was in the front seat and it rolled back. Pretty freakin' cool, I must say. Â So yes, it does happen. Â Those hobos must have been on break or something
Canobie Fan Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Good question, Storm Runner is the only rocket I have ever heard of not rolling back. Rita? On the TPR UK trip Rita roll'd back when testing.
haux Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 It seems to me that if Speed Monster were to barely clear the first inversion, it has a chance of rolling back in the middle of that element. Has that happened?
trustkill22 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 ^^I don't think so because I havent heard it happen yet and if it did it would take a bit to get it back to the station because they would probaly disassemble the trains instead of pushing back through that element which means you would be guarenteed to hear it here or on scream scape or something. Â Tyler"If something valleys you always hear it here."Danby
coasterlover420 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Intamin Rockets don't roll back._six  That's a great philosophy to live by!
Gnome Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 from what I hear about Xcelerator, they say it really only roll backs when they first start it in the morning for testing. I imagine that Storm Runner is the same way in that in morning during testing period, it might roll back occassionally, but I'm not quite sure if it roll backs with actual people on it.
knottslover77 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 ^ no two weeks ago I was in line for it a 9:00 pm and it rolled back(I wish I was on that train). Â Â --Jay
downunder Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Doesn't Kingda Ka have a system where the launch is calibrated based on the wieght of the train so it won't roll back, or has it rolled back. Â Storm Runner doesn't have very far to go up so imagine rollbacks are rare. I have been told on good authority that Superman Escape at Movie World has not rolled back yet.
yankees15 Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 Yes Kingda ka does have a system that weighs the train, but it has rolled back many times.
thunder001 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Superman at Movie World has only ever rolled back during testing when it was meant to. I have had words with people who claim to have been on the ride when it rolled back, but according to the park, this is not true. Â During the first couple of weeks of operation, there was a sensor issue which made train evacs on the launch a common thing. The good news is that this has not happened for a while and seems to have been corrected.
Astat Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Most likely time to see one roll back is right after it rains probably...first test launch on Dragster after a heavy rainstorm, it usually doesn't even make it to the curve at the top of the tower...at least the 2 times I've seen it happen.
thunder001 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 ^Funny you should mention that...downunders first ride on Superman was in the front seat after it reopened after rain...no rollback...just a lot of bugs in the face...
