verticalzero Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Why don't the Ops make this a racing woodie anymore..? Is it just being lazy by Six Flags
robbalvey Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I don't think both sides have actually been function together, other than Fright Fest, in years. Always seems like trains are down or one side is being rehabbed. --Robb
FeelTheFORCE Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Yeah when I was there a few weeks ago the right side's chain going up the lifthill looked like it hadnt been greased for a VERY long time.
arrowfanman Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I'm pretty sure that both sides are clear to run...its just a matter of actually doing it. Knowing SFMM, by the time that both sides actually have gotten enough people to run both sides, they'll probably be moved to other understaffed rides. -Jahan
pvcoasterguy Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Racing on the racing woodies is one of the most memorable experiences. At least Six Flags Great America does it most of the time. (Although one side only has one train, and the other has two now... they're refurbishing one).
Golfie Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Racing on a woodie is very fun. However on American Eagle at SFGAm, it isn't really a race since they hold the blue train for about 3 seconds as the red one goes flying down the hill.
Jeff Wesson Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Actually, my kids & I we're so stoked when we took a trip to SFMM maybe a month prior to the Tatsu Media Event, because as we we're leaving the station, they did dispatch both trains and we had a killer race on our hands! And I did have my video camera, so I taped the whole thing. It really adds a new dynamic to your on-ride videos, when you are able to tape a train from the outside, and only a few feet away! I guess sometimes you get lucky.
pvcoasterguy Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 ^^ Interesting... they both used to do it last year.
sixflagstloldschool Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 SFGAm one year had one of the trains in reverse and still raced, what airtime you got in reverse. A total different ride, Very intense.
benzo41190 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I remember when they used to have both trains forward and raced completely. Both trains were trimmed the same and they reached the station the same time. See, one train might go forward in the helix, but after they break apart, the blue train has to make a turn and go up a big hill. While the Red train (which is losing at this point) has a straight away and small hills. They then actually go into the final helix and brakes at the same time. If raced correctly the ride actually races....but it rarely ever happens now.
Dailey Enterprizes Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I thought the general consensus was that Collosus was running both sides until there was an accident and they've just gone away with it?
BiCoastal Kid Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ^I never heard that. I always left it to SFMM being lazy. The first time I ever rode Colossus back in '94 I believe it was, it raced. Great way to be my first "big coaster."
WillMontu Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 There are few racing woodies that match the Grand National. When we had ERT, half the fun was the hand slapping (because the tracks are close together and there is no divider). I know that riders can slap on Kennywood's Racer, but I don't think there are others. Of course, being mobius woodies, they have to race. A mobuis racer would simply not work for any Six Flags because of this.
Jon Sabo Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I would also add that it may be a maintenance/budget $$ issue. The park may be trying to cut-costs and having both sides racing would more than likely put alot more strain on the aging structure and maintenance would have to almost perform "double-duty" to inspect/green tag the ride for the next day. Also, MM probably doesn't have the maintenance personell (quantity) to perform the inspections in a timely manner. They may be inspecting one side when the other is operating.
okinawaboy11 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I remember when I first rode American Eagle. It didn't race. Then I rode again like 5 weeks later. It raced. It was the most fun thing in the park. I would ride over and over. I loved the watching the train fly by, then catching up in the helix.
What Now Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I thought the general consensus was that Collosus was running both sides until there was an accident and they've just gone away with it? It's the first time I've heard of any such thing.
Dailey Enterprizes Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I was trying to search the internet for anything to back up what I was saying, but found nothing. However, I did find a webpage talking about Colossus's history and the track was reprofiled after an accident. www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/colossus/ So I guess I'm wrong about it not running the two sides after the accident.
colossus Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 colossus my favorite There are 2 big reasons colossus does not run both sides 1)does not have enogh trains 2) stafing And yes both sides are working fine.If you have been there the last few weeks you would have notice that they have been switchin sides every couple days. And we actually were going to run both sides tatsu opening weekend but are stafing sucked so we ended up running only one side. But in the next couple weeks we should start running both sides at least on weekends because stafing is getting better and we got 5 good trains. Chris-O AKA colossus expert
LOVE SFKK Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 SIX FLAGS IS JUST BEING LAZY BUMS I asked the guy at collossos how i could get to scream and he said he didnt know and that the ride was closed. So I dont understand what that was all about
colossus Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ummmm no there is no way any worker at colossus could not tell you were screams was at when its right next to it.The question i want to ask you is how could you not find scream when its right next to it???? chris-o
thomas2 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Yeah it's such a shame Colossus isn't running both sides. It really adds to the experience when your racing with another train. Shame you Six Flags
verticalzero Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Jeff Wesson - can you post the video/pov for us to see the coaster "racing".
mike541x Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Well its a shame that it barely races now. Its the same when I went to PKD. Rebel Yell didn't race. Well maybe I'm just unlucky. Its fun when these types of roller coasters race but since Colossus doesn't race anymore it sure takes the excitment out of it.
lapseofreason Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 colossus my favoriteBut in the next couple weeks we should start running both sides at least on weekends because stafing is getting better and we got 5 good trains. Chris-O AKA colossus expert Cool, let us know if you guys start racing it. I'd make a trip out there just to do that
