DBJ Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 That's more than likey the case with what is happening. They could just retheme a ride, and technically, it's a new coaster "experience". Very clever use of precise wording there SF. The only other outside thought is one of the old American Adventure rides from Georgia ( Ridgeline Racer), but that is likely remote.
chadster Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ^^ I think you're right, the marketing department's just doing their job. While some count racers as 1 coaster, technically they are two seperate tracks, thus two seperate coasters. So, unless they are re-theming something else (not likely) they would be counting superman as two and the kiddie to = 3. We can dream can't we? Â In all reality, we can't be too picky, they are revamping or exapanding ride selections at all of their parks amid a still unstable economy, and just shedding the bankruptcy weight, so we have to give them credit. In fact many parks across the county are expanding or revamping rides this off season outside of SF's, so people are obvioulsy finding value in season passes or one off visits or they wouldn't be bringing in the capital needed.
ebl Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I have to agree with Wes. Obviously, Superman---Rear View Mirror is a "new" experience, as is the roller skater. Chances are, the forward version of Superman will feature a tunnel, special effects, or something else. That makes three. Â And makes sense. Would "sense" count as four? Â Eric
cooksta77 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Forwards Superman, backwards Superman, kiddie coaster. It's October, there's no construction beyond the Mr. Six area. Thinking anything else is on the way is silly. Agree 100% with you Wes. I mean I'm no expert but we'd see clearing done and pieces showed up by now if there was something big happening. Superman with a tunnel, superman backwards, and Mr. Six (with flamethrowers and We Like to Party on-ride audio) is what I'm hoping for.
Tmcdllr Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I might be in the minority here but I like the idea of only one track backwards, it would be two completely different rides in one and I like the forces of the forward launch, that awesome feeling of being pressed back into the seat. Themed so the left side is Superman and the right is Bizarro. Then at the top of the tower a statue of both engaged in a fighting sort of a pose and the color scheme for each car and its track matched to that character, as well as the entire que line. Too much?  That's funny, I knew I mentioned an idea a like that a few pages back, but with more to it.
alexinla Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Just came back from the Mountain right now...one interesting thing I noticed are the 2011 Thrill pass banners..right on the bottom, its says "Three new coaster experiences..One epic year!"...Hmmm  The "third" new coaster experience could also be Deja Vu. That ride being closed so long for just maintenance makes hardly any sense
cooksta77 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ^No no no didn't the Moose outside tell you it's just closed for Maintenance? -Cookie
Guy T. Koepp Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Lets all hope the new regime hasn't. The new management has seemed to tighten the purse strings quite heavily so far. Time will tell.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ^Good point. Let's all pray project 18 isn't REMOVING something.
SFMM fanboy Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ^Agreed. I would hate to see anything taken down.
Gmaster562 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Superman backwards, kiddie coaster, and terminator WITHOUT audio! 3 new experiences.
Fire2box Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 ^Good point. Let's all pray project 18 isn't REMOVING something. Â If anything does I bet it would be Scream or possibly Viper.
Ace Of Spades Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 ^Yeah, because Viper doen't pull the hour-long lines that the others...well it's not like they can still advertise on i...well...u...YEAH, IT'S A ROUGH AS HELL ARROW, THAT'S WHY IT NEEDS TO GO! Â Scream, on the other hand, is a great candidate for extinction.
ericm95 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 No!! I would HATE to see viper leave... Its rough but I love it. I actually enjoy scream too...
davisal771 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I feel like I'm the only one that loved Scream... Granted I rode it 4 years ago but still...
Tmcdllr Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Scream is all around fun, there is no reason it should go.
cooksta77 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Let the snake burn? Replace it with a Expedition G-Force baby.....Project 18? But no in all seriousness I have a feeling Viper is gonna be leaving. Like people have already hinted towards it isn't anything spectacular as it once was especially with X2 lurking over it in Arrow corner now. Cookie "My dreams are so unrealistic it's stupid" Iorio
Tmcdllr Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Viper still seems like a popular ride. The only reason I think they would even consider removing it is if it has become too costly maintenance wise or if it has become like GASM. Unless someone can confirm it, it hasn't reached that point yet.
ebl Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Viper's spot could open up some room for something newer, and from what we've seen regarding Shock Wave and GASM, it seems that the mega loopers have a 20-25 year lifespan. Â On a personal note, I haven't had any rough rides on Viper in a long time, and to me, it seems to be aging well. But who knows? Â Regarding Deja Vu, it'd be funny if they turned the trains around on that one as well---not that it would really change the experience much. But I am curious as to why it's going to be down for so long. For whatever reason, I keep getting the feeling that it'll be down so SFMM can not only do some work on it, but prepare some of the surrounding area for a future project, perhaps something tied in with the Project 18 thing. Â Or maybe Project 19? Â Eric
SoCalCoasters Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I rode Viper once...first car, second row...I needed advil afterward my ride on it was extremely painful.
atem122 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I'm with EBL on this one, I haven't had a bad ride on Viper in the longest time (probably the summer of 07 or something). And when you're not being bashed around, which is usually the case, you can really appreciate its awesome layout. I prefer it to Scream and a bunch of other rides at Magic Mountain. I guess it's even more of a priority to me than Tatsu is. But that's my opinion, I'm sure there are many that think differently.
chickenbowl Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 The first rows of the last 2 cars of Viper are awesome!
ebl Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 For me, it seems like when they painted the track red a couple of years ago, it seemed to get smooth. Can paint do that? Â Eric
Dietcokevan Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Viper is a great ride when its running good, even if its running bad, I still enjoy it. People who think Viper is bad probably missed out on Pysclone. Now that was BAD!
