acq10uaz
It looks really nice. Even now that I'm older, 15, it seems like its fun. I love going into those play structures. It almost looks like the new ProSlide ones. I hope the play structure next to Mr. Six's Splash Island at SFNE gets rethemed to look like that. It would be really nice. SharkTums
^That was actually my first comment to Robb!!! "Boy that looks a LOT like Shane's art." Â I thought it looked STRIKINGLY similar to your structure! (Not as cool, or as many slides of course) but the colors, surf boards, etc. Â Royalties? Lawsuits? Mechanic
Are those theming elements custom made, or do you sort of choose from a catalog of different designs? I must say, the resemblance is uncanny. I guess great minds think alike.

I must say, the resemblance is uncanny. I guess great minds think alike. Â White Water lovingly referred to me as a "unique" client as I was opposed to using any off the shelf graphics for our structure. All those graphics were custom and unique to Cowabunga Bay. We did a lot of research through old surf magazines and books to get the feel and design style to represent a whimsical retro surf theme. Â We don't own the rights or anything and honestly I never even thought about it. I think it is cute that Cowabunga Bay is going to have a baby brother now. Mechanic
I imagine there's the aspect of getting a reasonable return on investment for building molds and jigs to create the theming. It's certainly nice to see you take the high road and view the imitation as flattery. Luckily, it isn't a park that's in direct competition with you. You, and everyone here, will always know who the original was.
austinlee
The Colossus marathon is in the middle of Spring Break. I hope the park is going to run both tracks. I already have an Xtreme Pass and can't chew gum anymore due to the four crowns I've had put in and a root canal. I wouldn't be interested in riding the same ride for 6 straight hours anyway. PeoplemoverMatt
So I got a chance to ride X2 earlier this week for the first time since a little bit after X2 first opened as X2. Inside seat, 2nd row to the last row that would exit the loading area on dispatch. It was much smoother than I remember X2 being. The audio was also MUCH louder, which made for a much better ride IMO. Anyone else notice these kinds of improvements?
austinlee
X2: 3 times. Once when the park first opened. Two more times later in the day. The first ride was great but the other two were very rough which is why I only rode 3 times even with no line. On the third ride I slammed my head into the back of the seat. First time that has happened to me. Hopefully it doesn't happen again since I've never had a problem on X2 before and it is my #1 coaster overall. Â Sorry to quote myself, but this seemed to fit. This was the first visit in which I have had this much of a problem on X2 and I have been to the park about once a month since the remodel and also for nearly a year before that. I slammed my head so hard on the third X2 ride on Tuesday that I decided not to ride it again even though it had no line. I am going to give it another chance on my next visit, next month and hopefully it won't happen again. If I have no problems next time I will call this a one time thing and keep riding it but if it happens again I may have to decide whether I should ride it anymore which would be very depressing if I have to decide not to. ebl
As I've said before, I was done with X and they could have made scrap metal out of it for all I care. However, once I gave X2 a try, I was hooked. There've been a few rough-ish rides, but none as horrible as I "X"perienced before. As for the sound, I hear it all the way to the top of the lift, then little or nothing till after the final element and roll into the station (ditto for Terminator's sound). But I couldn't care less about onboard sound, to be honest. For me, it doesn't do much for the enjoyment of the ride. Â The re-engineering of X's trains was a good thing. coasterking2981
The re-engineering of X's trains was a good thing. Â You can say that again! Â With the original trains, for some reason, I always felt a push by the seats as they rotated. The new trains make the rotating seamless
cal1br3tto
^^I never rode X, but I can say the onboard audio on X2 does a lot for me. SF definitely made the right choice with that, and it's perfectly executed with the song/saying choices and timing. It's not that I think it's making up for any shortcoming, because I really enjoyed the ride as a whole. It just helps "complete" the experience for me. It gives me something extra to enjoy during the ride and look back on fondly afterwards. I find the music exciting, yet slightly relaxing at the same time (probably because it's a distraction). austinlee
On X2 I only hear the audio until the top of the lift hill then nothing more until you re-enter the station. On Terminator I have always been able to hear the audio for the entire ride. Well, except for my last visit when the audio was turned off. I enjoy the audio on both rides but it doesn't make or break the rides for me. I enjoy them even without it. The audio is just icing on the cake to me, it adds a little to the experience. For the most part I have not found X2 to be any more rough or smooth than it was as X.
AWill961
I use to hate X. Â Perhaps back in like 2003 or something... when I wasn't that tall I guess... I couldn't bring the shoulder restraints down all the way so that my head were above them. Either that or I didn't (or a RO didn't do it for me) Â The ride was horrible. The first time I rode X, I thought I was going to die because my head kept banging against the restraints. Then I learned to stick my head out to solve the problem. Then I just got taller over a couple of summers and now I don't have to worry about it as I can pull the shoulder restraints down so that they're just about the top of my shoulders. Â I still experience rough on X2. Primarily after the last raven turn... ... (if anyone can share the same experience) --- my legs are thrown and they bounce off the seat....not fun; hurts!!! haha other than that, I don't have any other problems. Â The Colossus marathon is in the middle of Spring Break. I hope the park is going to run both tracks. I already have an Xtreme Pass and can't chew gum anymore due to the four crowns I've had put in and a root canal. I wouldn't be interested in riding the same ride for 6 straight hours anyway. what happened with the teeth? Â LOL... I would consider doing this if the ride was Goliath. But maybe not because it would ruin my liking for the ride. I have a play pass with parking myself; but if I could do this to get a roommate or friend of mine one, I would do it. Â I couldn't do it though for rides like Viper, Revolution, Deja Vu, Scream, Batman, Riddlers--- I'd probably throw up. Rides with inversions tend to get me headache-ready after a couple of re-rides. Â I like the heartbeating and "we are high up" when you reach the culmination of the lift hill. It really heightens the experience. Â I like hearing Frank Sinatra--"It had to be you..." to start things....I love the noise that takes place in the station as well.... "X2...X2.... Is Everybody In?"" all that good stuff. austinlee
^ The last Raven turn is where I really slammed my head but the other Raven turn hit me pretty hard too. In my experience, the last Raven turn is a little rough even on it's best days. My legs do get tossed around in certain spots but not enough to be a problem. I didn't have the same problems with headbanging as you did since I was already in my mid 20's when it opened. I just hope I don't whack my head like that again next time I go, since that was the first time it had happened to that extent and X2 is my favorite coaster. Â ^ I have always had problems with my teeth even though I take care of them. My dentist said it's genetic. Â Also, I saw my first SFMM commercial of the year on Friday night. ebl
One thing I've learned with rides with OTSRs---get it down as close to your shoulders as you can. Fortunately, the ones on X2 are vertically adjustable, so you can get it down tightly. Next, while riding, try to stick your legs out in front of you during both of the half-half elements and in both raven turns. Doing that has greatly reduced the discomfort of riding X2. Â Now if SFMM could get some OTSRs on Revolution that are vertically adjustable---like some Schwarzkopf coasters have in Europe---that ride would become rideable again.
