Bolliger&Mabillard
^No, They'd just have to disassemble the train, causing ride closure for quite some time.
Guy T. Koepp
Yay! I will get back to MM several times in May. Hello Terminator!
MagicMountainMan
^^They don't pull the train through? I've heard of that happening before I think...
rawrtotheargh
^ I'm sure it depends on where the train is on course as well as which ride it is. It seems like it would be easier to just dismantle it. But i'm sure it super expensive.
AllenA07
There are pictures somewhere on this site, maybe even in this thread, of them cutting a piece of track out in order to remove a train on X.
rawrtotheargh
^ WOW that seems a little xtreme. It seems like it would be easier to just remove the up stops and pick up the train off the track. I guess I will have to now spend hours trying to find this photo.
X2coasterfreak
^^ I think that picture is when they are taking out the piece of transfer track to take the train off the ride. I have seen them do that before changing from 2 train operation to 1.
rawrtotheargh
^ It really seems like it would be super expensive to take out a piece of track and put it back in. I mean it would be so much easier to just take off the wheels of even separate the chassis from the cars.
ebl
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that to remove a valleyed train, they actually cut out a section of the track, remove the cars one by one, then reweld the track. Awfully tedious, and over time the multiple times the track has been cut would weaken it---even if cut at the same spot. Â Seems like it would be easier to have a removable section in areas where valleying occurs on a regular basis. That way it's a disassemble/reassemble process. atem122
Not really on subject for valleying and everything, but I must say SFMM can really draw a saturday crowd. I was there yesterday, got there 30 minutes before the park opened so that I could sprint to my first ride (I was on the first load of Tatsu since X2 was closed due to wind) Then I got my 48th credit vu, did the whole back of the park, but by the time I got over to scream, I noticed the lines were getting there. Scream had a full station which I have never seen, I then waited about 15 minutes for Goliath. That's when everyone started coming, every line, and I mean every line was packed. Viper's and Revo's were out of their queues, vu was out of it's too. Riddler's queue was completely packed and starting to spill out into the plaza. Then I saw something that I never thought was possible, Scream had a completely full queue, I mean it's a good day if the line can make it out of the station, but I kid you not, all the way out. That's when I just started meandering and taking pictures, got one last ride on viper around 3 and went home. I'm still excited to go again next Sunday though! -I must say that SFMM has to be doing something right to pull lines this big between spring and summer break
ebl
^ SFMM is getting crowded because it's close and because they really do offer a good time. Â I was also there yesterday (notice my little report from yesterday). Even after 6pm, the lines were still fairly long depending on which ride you wanted to ride. Tatsu was running both stations (I didn't ride because the queue was full); X2 was closed; Viper and Revolution were busy; Goliath was busy, but I rode anyway. Terminator was closed because of uncompletedness (and I had a dream about it---see that thread); Colossus' queue was even full; and Scream had a line but shut down later on. Gold Rusher wasn't bad and two-train operation helped; Ninja's line was just past the top of the stairs going down into the station; Batman was pretty busy so I skipped it. Riddler's line wasn't bad, and I skipped Deja Vu because I just didn't feel like waiting. I don't know how long its line was, but I'd guess at least 45 minutes because it tends to get that way. ZeroG001
I'm planning a trip to the park in May, but I don't know when to go. How crowded will it be on Friday, the 22nd? It says the park is open from 10am-10pm, and that is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. I'm guessing since schools are still in session, it won't be THAT crowded. What do you guys think? Â Also, I'll be going back again in late August/early September to ride Terminator then, so it be a major let down for me if Terminator is closed on the 22nd. atem122
^If for some reason Terminator's open on the 22nd, then you're screwed, but if you can you should probably go mid week maybe since you're not planning on riding Termy yet
ebl
^^ My experience with Memorial Day weekend is that Memorial Day itself will be the least crowded. Same with Labor Day and July 4 (when it falls on a Monday). Â This is just a theory, but generally, the day before the holiday is more crowded because most people don't have to get up early or travel home the next day, with it being a holiday. But right on the holiday itself, many people won't stay at the park because they have to get up for work, school, etc., or get on the road to go home before traffic becomes a nightmare. If it is crowded in the park on the holiday, it will probably clear out a few hours before closing, giving you some time to get on some rides with shorter lines. Â Perhaps to play it safe, get the Q-Bot. It might be well worth it. Â Eric
ZeroG001
Well I can't go midweek, and my only options are weekends, including Fridays. I think I'll go on Monday, Memorial Day, because EBL seems to bring up a good point. I might give the Q-Bot a try if it's too crowded. Thanks for the advice guys. ghost007jas
I'll be going out there May 24th, and expect pretty large crowds so we're going to order the Q-Bot online - just to be safe!
Calicoasters
I didn't go in the park yesterday, but the parking lot was filling up past Scream! around 2:30. There were still a bunch of people going to the park too. It was pretty windy but X2 was open and operating fast! I got a speeding ticket (84 in a 55) just a couple miles from the park so I really didn't feel like standing in any lines. With the park getting busier this month it looks like my "Off-Season" has started early this year.
atem122
I'm really worried about going back next Sunday lol. But last Saturday I noticed an amazing thing that I had never felt before. I experienced a bit of hangtime in Scream's loop. That alone immediately increased my opinion of the ride. Does anyone else feel it usually too? Or was it a weird day/row or something like that? PeoplemoverMatt
If you're ever concerned about SFMM crowds, hedge your bets and buy Flash Pass online. No need to worry after that.
shepp
The only concern I have for people pointing out troublemakers is that those troublemakers could make things bad for the ones who told on them if they know who they were. Having as many visible security officers as possible is a good deterrent to trouble.  Eric  Scariest moment I've had a park was when I tried to stop a biker chick from queue-jumping in the GhostRider shed. Was physically threatened by her "escorts," had to watch my back the rest of the day...  These days I'm a lot more circumspect.

Aughra
Spring break crowds are finally gone during the week. I got to the park at opening today (well almost, I drive through the parking gates at 10:25), went straight to X2 was 3rd load, got back into line for about a 40 minute wait (they were only running 1 train with about 5 1/2 minute loads, so about 300 per hour) I got off X2 at 11:45 so two rides in just over an hour, then went to Tatsu and waited 3 loads, walked onto Deja Vu, walked onto Gold Rusher and walked onto Riddlers. Â Unfortunately I had to leave then because I had actual stuff to do at home , but the crowds were non-existent, it was the best I have seen so far this year. rawrtotheargh
I'm really worried about going back next Sunday  Personally I have noticed that Sundays tend to be a little less crowded than Saturdays. But from the sounds of what everyone is saying it will be crowded anyways. You should get the Q-bot if you are really worried. It really is more than worth what you pay for it. As for next Sunday, i think the crowds will be alright, much better than the last photo TR you did at least lol
