The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

^ Exactly. They don't put these things together with extra knowledgeable coaster nerds in mind. It's funny cause when I look at PR packaged videos, I see them as rough drafts. I never take then completely literally. They're done to excite everyday guests.

^^This is true as impulse coasters launch 3 times technically.

So does Cheetah Hunt, the weird double coaster at Ferrari World, and I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two others. Obviously all of the impulses and sky loop rides do multiple launches forwards and backwards.

For those wondering about tall rider comfort and comparing the trains to Skyrocket...

Discovery Kingdom's Superman Ultimate Flight uses similar trains. When I visited with my 6-5 son, all rows were available. None were blocked off or not recommended for tall riders. Every row was a little uncomfortable for him. After 3 to 4 laps the restraints left him with red indentations on his lower legs. They faded quickly and wouldn't keep him from riding again in the future.

Just speculating... Premiere seems to have solved the tall rider Skyrocket problem. Perhaps the coupler is longer?

As far as Sky Rocket goes, the rows not recommended for taller riders are the last row in each car. This is thanks to the design of the car:

This picture was taken on the ride's opening day, and a few modifications have been made since, but the area I'm focusing on has not been changed.

The rear wheel assembly has more flexibility than the front, so there needs to be more clearance for it. The floor of the car bends up, providing far less floor space than the other two rows. If you have bigger feet, you probably need to turn them sideways to get them to fit flat on the floor, otherwise the shin pads could be quite uncomfortable. It does not appear that Superman's train has changed this at all, and it doesn't look like Full Throttle's trains will either.

During Sky Rocket's first season, the coupler was indeed shorter, so the back of row 3's seats came quite close to the riders in row 4. The park forbade anyone over 6 feet tall from sitting there because of that issue, but the rule has been lifted since the coupler is longer and clearance is no longer an issue. Superman uses the longer design.

The justification for using 'unprecedented' is that I don't think there's any other continuous circuit coaster that launches twice forwards and once backwards.

Orlando Mummy, if you want to count them as launches.

Other than the launches, loop and the top hat, this ride looks really lame. Oh wait! That's all there is to it...

LOL! You're totally right!!! That's amazing!

Ok, so now SFMM has nothing to claim I guess!!!

They absolutely do have something they can claim. Most idiotic management/PR people to ever run an amusement park!

I'd totally be okay with it if they referred to the vertical loop as "unprecedented", because it is. I don't know of any coaster that has track on the top and bottom of the spine, and it is still the world's largest vertical loop.

Since the marketing team can't do there homework, I'll just clear this mess up

Worlds Tallest and Fastest Roller Coaster with an Inversion: Eejanaika 249', 78 m.p.h.

*Worlds Tallest Roller Coaster with a Vertical Loop: Viper 188'

Worlds Tallest Vertical Loop: Superman: Krypton Coaster 145'

Worlds Fastest Roller Coaster with a Vertical Loop: Superman: Krypton Coaster and Viper 70 m.p.h.

*I do not count Wild Eagle as being 210' simply becuase it dosen't actually come anywhere near 210' off the ground. There's maybe a 140' foot viod between the track and ground at most. I classify it more as the "heighest" wing coaster. Just my 2c.*

The marketing team can't handle this much research apparently. "Worlds Tallest Vertical Loop" seems to be much more clear.

All I can say is that I hope the loop has similar forces to Dominator's loop with the amazing float at the top . As for the next addition I think they should either find the rest of Full Throttle or build a coaster that will make them the park with the most airtime in a park by adding a 350 foot tall B & M with a traditional layout and a record 45 seconds of airtime.

Worlds Tallest Vertical Loop: Superman: Krypton Coaster 145'

Not sure why you'd include this one as Full Throttle's loop is 160'.

That list is the current rankings as of 2012. Untill the loop is actually constructed these records still hold.

Right, but if you're gonna call out their marketing team on stuff, don't call them out on the one thing they actually CAN lay claim to fame.

I was pretending to take on the roll of the marketing team and that would of been the result of my research....

I guess you could also add the fact the top hat isn't necessarily 100% a top hat from what I understand.

I'm not sure what the true definition is, I don't think the entrance and exit have to be completely vertical, but most every top hat I know of, the entrance and exit are more or less the same in length. And the entrance to this top hat isn't all that steep or as long as the drop on the other side.

Yes, yes, and more YES!

Although this most likely will turn into another coaster NOT utilizing their terrain to the fullest . It's going to be here and run south-north, calling it!

*sarcasm*

It's more of a camelback than anything else. But isn't a top hat entered vertically, curved apex. and exited vertically? I't "looks" as if the entrance and exits of the "top hat" do just that.
