The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I just hope Full Throttle is Full Circuit and High Capacity. Two things Premier aren't known for. I'm not expecting this airtime monster other people are hoping for, this is SFMM after all.

I do like Premier coasters though, even if they aren't big with enthusiasts.

So SFMM is going to be getting a launched coaster, that may contain multiple launches, it will have a good size loop, and it will make use of a tunnel... So the park is getting Speed: The Ride?

I'll even add in that Full Throttle and Speed are not even really that different of names. Basically they are referring to the same thing.

That's an awesome ride, especially when you first come out of the tunnel into a sharp left bank turn. With the almost certainty now of Premier Rides Facebook announcement and the aforementioned indicators, i wouldn't mind a Speed: the Ride/Mr. Freeze type coaster. I just hope the 'longest coaster' rumor stands strong, adding a phenom twist to the ride. And please, Premier, no OTSR!!

I thought there were two tunnels along the monorail route but now that I look at the map there appears to be only one. Last time I was at MM I remember seeing that tunnel had been kept preserved, and I hoped one day it would find future use. Before it was known this was going to be a launch coasters, there were strong rumors the coaster would use tunnels to keep the LIMs out of the sun. I never heard anything of any additional tunnels along the route, just thought the old monorail went through the mountain twice. Looking at the map, I would imagine the coaster would turn right and launch through the monorail tunnel and up into the signature inversion.

Just speculation, of course, but would make perfect sense.

Except for the major Superman Escape from krypton like launch we need. I took the opportunity to measure some Premier and Intamin normal launches to fit the spot and those where around half the route closer to the station. If they going to use the Log Jammer station i think we get a launch and a part of the ride to the tunnel and then launch 2 in the tunnel. Then they can make the record breaking Inversion everywhere they want.

Just to show the major distance of the Tunnel and the Station.

That Premier Facebook post does set me thinking on what it could be. All I hope is that it's not going to be a shuttle, I don't think shuttle's are that great. I rather have a full circuit ride.

I would be very, very surprised if this is a shuttle coaster. If it is a Premier, it may use the same type of track and trains their shuttle coasters do, but the area is way too large for a freeform shuttle coaster. With ride time and loading, it would probably be a lower capacity than Green Lantern.

If it is indeed a Premier coaster (I'll believe it when I see the announcement), I'm thinking it would most likely be comparable to a supersized Back Lot Stunt Coaster, but with inversions. I could see the initial launch being directly out of the station, with a second launch through the tunnel and the record breaking inversion in the second half of the ride. Hopefully it is able to run four trains (or at least three), and only has lapbars to keep dispatches quick. One thing almost certain is that if this ride is a Premier, it will likely be the largest Premier coaster to date.

It's still possible that the Premier facebook post could be talking about SCBB which is also getting a new coaster in 2013, in which case the SFMM coaster might not be Premier. This we will know one day sooner I believe, on the 29th. If you're an ACE member, you'll know on the 26th but you won't be able to tell us since they will be making you sign an NDA

^Never been on them. Are they good capacity?

Yeah, they are really good. Also, don't forget the Back Lot Stunt Coatsers. It seems they do have more Shuttle coasters then the average company, however, I wouldn't say they are only know for them.

Plus the Mr. Freeze coasters do decent with capacity, especially for a Shuttle coaster. Superman is really the only low capacity ride Premier has built, and even that has blown away expectations for what it could do.

And please, Premier, no OTSR!!

When is the last time we saw Premier build a ride with OTSRs? And nearly all of the ones they did, don't have them anymore. I wouldn't be concerned with this at all.

Absolutely..and they do such a nice job. Those lab bars on SUF are awesome..so comfortable and so secure..easily the best restraints I've ever experienced. Looking at off-ride footage before I rode I was apprehensive about how that roll was going to be with only lap bars but it was perfect. I would love to see those style restraints on a lot more rides.

I know it has been a big part of the rumors since the beginning, but I am pretty disappointed that it will be a Premier ride. I know a lot of people enjoy their rides, but I have never been to huge on them.

One of the old rumors said that the train might enter the tunnel forwards, stop, then launch out backwards. This might be possible and it again supports the whole multiple launch thing. As far as rumors go it looks like the older ones are more accurate.

While it's still possible it will be a full circuit coaster, its looking like it could be a shuttle, hopefully it will be more than that. Maybe they have worked on some in circuit track switching technology. Kinda like how the launch on the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars works. I guess Premier is known for having elements like that in their rides just as much as they are known for shuttle coaster.

Full Circuit Premier coasters (actually MOST of their coasters):

Back Lot Stunt Coaster (x3)

Spaghetti Bowl (x6)

Revenge of the Mummy (x3)

Sky Rocket

Powder Keg

Runaway Mountain

Superman: Ultimate Flight

Vonkaputous

I'm really hoping that the ride has some kind of water element as a tribute to Log Jammer with it.

I still think Superman: Ultimate Flight is more of a shuttle than normal circuit coaster. It has one train, travels back and forth on the same portion of track. I know it is connected all the way around, but I think traveling back and forth on the same piece of track defines a shuttle coaster more than that does. Not only that, but the track length of the ride is shorter than any other coaster they have ever made.

Anyways back to Full Throttle. I can see this ride having trains very similar to Superman, and being full circuit with the track having multiple block sections. Similar to Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit it that aspect. If the backwards launch is true then I could see this ride having at least 3 different launches, 2 forward and 1 backwards. They are known for having moving track sections on their rides, like the turntables on mummy, or conveyor sections like on Powder keg so I can see something like that being implemented here.

^^

I was looking back @ Speed: the Ride in Las Vegas which had OTSR's. But after some research, I find out the ride is now defunct. I'm glad to have ridden it once.

It's actually going to be rebuilt down by the mega ferris wheel across from the Mandalay Bay.

You sure it's not being relocated to SFMM for the 2013 surprise? j/k Cool, I look forward to riding it with i'm sure, new (no OTSR's) trains!

Going off the "Full throttle"...

Crashes into a logging company while running from the "Police" ending up in a rapidly-flooding tunnel before reversing out, right as something collapses?

Wait, six flags park, nevermind.
