The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad they've finally put Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor's names on the sign at the park entrance. Looks a lot better than it used to!

So, on my final day at the park, I got my Deja Vu credit and my Superman credit, so that makes all 14 that I can ride. Sweet!

Oh, and for my last ride, there was a 5 minute wait for Terminator, so I got a night ride on it. That ride is truly amazing at night. My favourite ride at the park.

That ride would be sweet if it was closed in, Space Mountain style.

I don't know what Six Flags plans on doing with the information they gather from the Tournament of Thrills, but if they are trying to decide what types of coasters get the biggest response (and if they should build more), we really need to step it up for the 4D coaster! I know they are not perfect or cheap, but I would like to see atlest a couple more in the world.

Vote and not for Raging Bull!

Santa Clarita Schools go back either August 10th or 17th. (Depending on district and randomness).

That's not really your big worry however, as surprisingly not many locals visit SFMM. I would check the LAUSD schedule.

LAUSD goes back to school on September 9th. (wow, that's late)

At least that's what I gather from this: http://notebook.lausd.net/pls/ptl/docs/PAGE/CA_LAUSD/LAUSDNET/ABOUT_US/INFORMATION/DISTRICT_CALENDARS/09-10%2520SCHOOL%2520CALENDAR.PDF

You also have to worry about the Ventura County Schools:

Oxnard School District goes back Sept 1st.

Ventura School Discrict goes back August 25th

Pleasant Valley School District goes back August 25th

Simi Valley School District goes back August 26th.

^ I went to LAUSD schools and that's about the time we usually went back. It does seem late compared to where we live.

Earlier, I gave some thought to heading out there, but having gone to San Diego yesterday, I decided to rest up instead. Last weekend was pretty busy, so I'd guess that today would be as well.

A little off topic but:

What is Hurricane Harbor's ticket price versus Raging Waters' San Dimas and which is the better water park?

My dad is thinking about taking me and my sisters in two weeks but wants to know the prices for both, and obviously which is the bigger/better park.

Hey

I went to SFMM for the first time the other day. I'd always heard some pretty bad things about the park but i had a brilliant time.

I was expecting some awful lines and perhaps only getting to ride a few of the major coasters. But instead although it was pretty busy the longest wait was for X2 (1.5 hours) and I got every (non kiddie) coaster in the park with re-rides on my favorites.

I think one of the reasons i enjoyed it so much is because we really have no analagous park in the UK. For me Knotts was very much the "Thorpe Park of America" but SFMM was bigger and bolder than anything I've ever done.

I also rated all the rides pretty highly. Even rides like Scream which seem to get a near universal slating. Ok it is in a carpark but its still a damn good ride. Perhaps I've just not ridden enough (Riddler was my 100th coaster).

Anyway thought id share my 2cents (or pence i guess)

Yeah, there isn't anything that someone familiar with theme parks didn't already know, but it doesn't sound like it was written for the theme park vet but for the casual observer.

One thing I disagreed with is all the hooting about how SFMM's Flash Pass w/ X2 & Terminator is OMG $82!!! while the Gold Flash Pass in NJ is touted as somehow a better bargain by being $80. Somehow the whopping $2 difference doesn't strike me as earth-shattering, but perhaps the point was that SFMM should charge $82 as the standard Gold price and not have the option to pay $10 for X2 & Terminator?

Seems like SFMM is actually doing guests a favor by keeping X2 & Terminator as options, thereby keeping the price of Gold down at $62 as opposed to NJ's $80 but I guess it's all about perception?

Maybe there's some room for gripe about how X2 & Terminator are Gold only, but again, I say that's SFMM actually doing guests a favor, in this case for the guests who elected not to purchase Flash Pass. X2 has a lower capacity than, say, Riddler's, thereby increasing the magnitude of effect on the wait time for those non-Flash Pass guests. Restricting X2 to Gold and then Reservation-only is really the only way X2 can have Flash Pass at all. So when you think about it, X2's FP format is really a win-win. Flash Pass is an option, and doesn't have the adverse impact on wait times that it could have because there's such a control on the number of Flash Pass riders.

I know this has probably been asked before but I can't remember it recently being asked in this thread.

I'm coming down to visit a few parks next week and wondering how SFMM handles rainy weather? (I know it's August and usually dry as a bone) but I'm just checking.

Is it as severe as KBF?

This will greatly help me in my upcoming trip.
