P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Interesting that RCDB claims that Full Throttle has a Dive Drop like the Wingriders. Also I kinda like the paint scheme. At least until it starts fading. Also also it's a damn shame, all that wasted speed after the "top hat". But I... guess Magic Mountain knows what it's doing?

I am pretty happy with the ride overall but disappointed that the ride ends after the "top hat". Why couldn't they have had a turn to the left and then a helix and a airtime hill into the brakes to just add some more meat to the layout. Hopefully the backward's launch turns out to be fun and not a waste of speed.

How pathetic can this get? Wasting a good amount of money from a launch to just stopping the ride after the top hat. Really? If this coaster was just a way to increase their coaster count, then bull**** is what I'm calling this. Why waste money on a really pointless coaster than to at least make an effort to make this coaster awesome? I know this is the mentality of Magic Mountain, but come on, they couldn't go beyond the gimmick and actually give their coaster a finale that wouldn't end immediately after. I know this park will somehow mess up the ride and will manage to under staff this coaster. Also, anyone thinking that if they can't afford employees to run their coasters, why are they building another coaster that won't be ran to its full potential?

I had to get that off my back [/rant]

^As pointless as it seems the backward launch could be really cool, nobody knows yet.

Besides when the popularity of this fizzles they could always turn the trains around and re brand the ride as a completely new experience. Because now you would go backward forward backward instead of forward backward forward. So in effect they actually have cheaped out on this and saved money buy making it two rides in one. Or maybe they could just do this all at once, run one train forward the other backward....oh wait, oh yeah this is MM.

What's there looks damn cool. But, as most others have echoed, it's what's not there that's so disappointing. It's the same complaint with Apocalypse and Leviathan - a great first half-or-so of a ride, but then the rest has just disappeared. Normally I might just shrug it off, but in this case the rumors for months have correctly pointed to three launches and a giant loop, plus that it'd be a long ride (unless you count the Kingda Ka rumors, which now seem semi-valid). Then getting all this awesomeness, which was expected, with a BS ending, just makes for another failed opportunity at what could've been a world-class coaster in a state that could use one. I'm going to the start the rumor now that this would've been longer, but they cut it down dramatically to save money to spend elsewhere (probably on the short-lived fog machine and theming).

Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, "It might have been.”

While I'm disappointed, we certainly could be worse off - most of the chain isn't getting much. So, onto the positives: The twisty bit after the loop, the dive-loop, and the tophat should make this worthy of rerides. Can we call the loop-hat the "YOLOOP?" The backwards launch I'm undecided on - it's interesting, but probably a bad idea for capacity and overall flow, and yeah, will probably be short-lived. I really like the color scheme; it's clean and modern and reminds me of old Tomorrowland, Revolution, or classic Sci-Fi spaceships. When parks get as many coasters as SFMM, I'd actually prefer that they start toning down the colors like this just so things don't start looking like Knott's.

Lastly, the new Gold Pass looks great. I'd go for it just for the parking, but the added perks of parking at all parks (I remember this was a frustration for some a while back, though I've never had a problem just using my SFMM pass at other parks) and early entry are awesome. I probably won't use the HH or 'bring a friend' perks, but they're nice bonuses as well. Nice to see that Six Flags was listening to us on something.

Yeah because fog machines and fluid are THAT expensive. I think they just plain cheaped out.... it should be longer but......

As we have seen with the ride at SFDK freak circumstances can occur on rides of this type where the train can stop in an unexpected place. So how long after this open will that happen, stalling the train upside down in the loop?

I'm sure it'll still be a fun ride and it'll certainly suck up some of crowds and perhaps generate some revenue for more expansion. Speaking of more expansion, I wonder if a coaster has ever been designed with the potential for future track development in mind? I'm sure it's highly unlikely, although this would be the perfect candidate to slap on a whole other section a few years from now, dependent on capital and land usage of course.

I am a bit disappointed by SFMM's choice, but I can't judge the ride yet since I haven't been on it. I think that the dive loop into the tunnel looks awesome, and that top hot looks airtime promising. I'm sad to see how short it is, I really think that they had so much potential with that whole Log Jammer area. But all in all, I am looking forward to riding this ride.

I really can't stop laughing at the whole YOLO thing though, really guys?

^ They should put in some good flat rides in the rest of the area not used to make up for the fact that they barely used any of the space taken up by log jammer.

Flatrides+ Magic Mountain? Does not compute!!

Haha I know right. But it would make up for it. MM lacks two great things: Airtime and Flats.

I really like that flat ride idea. (Hopefully MM would now invest in some flat rides since now it proved to have more coasters than Cedar Point.) Well guys, think of it this way, at least MM didn't take the even easier way out and just put a bunch of cheap little kiddie coasters instead of Full Throttle, LL, Green Lantern, etc, etc. and still claimed it had 18 coasters.

Well just looking at a satellite view it sure seems like there would be enough room after this ride is constructed to fit a few flats to the right of the top hat and break run of the coaster. Or MM could rebuild the lake and have something gorgeous to look at. A giant loop and top hat with a lake in front of it to complete the moment. Dang that sounds nice and sadly too good to be true.

Just got another email announcing this ride from the park and at the end it says....

The addition of Full Throttle will give Six Flags Magic Mountain the title of “Coaster Capital of the World,” with a total of 18 roller coasters—more than any other theme park in the world. Full Throttle is set to open in 2013 in a newly themed area of the park.

Ahh there's that coaster capital thing....
