I really like this blog. Although some points are a bit extreme for my taste, I think it's good to hear other people's views and compare them to your own. I do agree with this guy on the over-marketing of the characters. I think that Disney needs to turn out more original attractions that aren't movie based. Tommorowland at the MK is quickly becomming Pixarland and FantasyLand is slowly losing it's classic touch with every new addition it gets. He's right about one thing, if this keeps up we'll never see another Haunted Mansion or Pirates. I also agree with him about removing the EPCOT sign from intop of Spaceship Earth, although I don't think it's quite as bad as he makes it out to be. I don't think Imagineering as a whole is lost though. Animal Kingdom has done a nice job of containing the characters within the park. The Evergreens are present, but not dominant, which is refreshing. MGM has also maintained a nice level of character presence. EPCOT is moving in a dangerous direction with character integration, but I think that EPCOT will still be a great park as long as they don't cheapen the experience.

I guess I pushed Quote instead of Edit, my bad.

^It was on JimHillMedia the other day. I really like that blog, I think it's very interesting and in many ways true.

EDIT: oops, double post

I used to love the Goosebump books when I was a little kid! Those were my favorite back in elementary school. In middle school (particularly 6th and 7th grade) I was really into the Xanth Novels, which are a series of fantasy novels by Piers Anthony. They were really good novels, the first of which being A Spell for Chameleon. I recommend them for someone looking for really good fantasy books. I personally preffered them to the Harry Potter books myself, but that's just my opinion since Im not a huge Harry Potter fan.

Celebrities and Athletes you've met...
Swimace replied to SixFlagsTexas's topic in Random, Random, Random
I've been at a couple of parties with Olympic gold metalist swimmers at them. I went tubing behind a boat with one of them. -
I'm going camping at the beach for part of the week and then I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out

This morning at 3 am I finished my big research paper on Paradise Lost, so now I'm reading some play. Unfortunatly I was a tad sleepy in class today so I don't remember what it's called Has anyone seen that Pirates of the Caribbean book about how it went from a concept to a ride to a movie? I saw it on Amazon and I was wondering if it's any good.

I'm really looking forward to this ride. I think it's either going to be a hit or miss, but I really love B&M hypers and this layout looks great (as long as the POV video isn't accurate in terms of speed) -
Montu Batwing Element
Swimace replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Montu was insane before they trimmed it, but even with the trim brakes it really surprises me every time I ride with what it can do -
I would say New Zealand, and then I'd just have to travel to Japan and Australia for coasters a lot.

I have a new idea

^Ah, you beat me to it there's some conept art for it here: http://www.themeparkdenmark.dk/TDDiscussion/viewtopic.php?t=281 -
I have the same problem when I do art. I can write wonderfully, but I've always had a mind for design and it never translates onto paper the way I want it to.
-
^ Nicely spoken, I agree with most of what you said. The writing definatly needs work, but anything worth achieving is never easy.

Maelstrom™ Ride @ EPCOT™
Swimace replied to Envy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
WDW magic has a complete POV of it, although I think you have to be a member to download it. -
I'm afraid I have to agree, your writing is a bit convoluted. It doesn't really capture the reader as it should, and the story had me fighting to pay attention. It really looks like you are trying to use big words where they are not needed, try some Hemmingway style for a change. Some of your poems sound like they are trying to be deep, rather than just being deep. I think this is caused by some unnecessary uses of repetition along with poor word choice. If you work at it I'm sure you can make it better, everybody has to start somewhere. Please don't take this as mean, I'm only trying to give you constructive criticism.

You're thinking of DisneyQuest which has a virtual reality game loosly based on Alien Encounter. IMO that attraction was just a terrible excuse to use a park attraction in DisneyQuest, as the ride really has nothing to do with XS Tech or the story that the MK attraction followed. The other major things at DisneyQuest are based on WDW trademarks to (with the exception of the comic game) but the other attractions based on rides are really good (especially Pirates). PS- Punctuation is your friend.

So was there any climax after that?? Or was that all?? At the climax of the ride (if I remember correctly) the people who are running the test re-route the power and catch him is the tube and create a power surge that blows him up (which was apretty scary because of all the noise and effects). My favorite part of the ride was when the electrical guy comes in to try to fix the lights and all of a sudden the alien dissapeers. The guy walked around the catwalk above the audience and had a nightvision camera that played on the screens. It was one of those moments where you new something was going to pop out but you didn't know when, and sure enough the alien popped out and the screen went dark and you feel the slobber/blood drip on you from above. That was the most memorable effect for me, since the whole scene was done so well and had such a clear story (unlike Stitch which is impossible to follow)

Wow, that's really cool that you have a proffessional relationship with S&S and Interactive Rides, hopefully you'll keep us informed
-
I definately thought that the pre-show for Stitch was too frightening for kids, it made it seem like the ride was going to be scary. The loud noises, darkness, and large gun movements are enough to scare any kid, which is something that a park like Disney should know.
-
Stitch is so much worse than Alien Encounter. In Alien Encounters lowest state it could easily double the fun of Stitch. The only good thing I can say for Stitch is that the Animatronic is incredible, other than that it's pretty pitiful. There's practically no story, or at least one that anybody can follow, which is a stupid thing to do since a Stitch ride should have a simple story to keep its little fans immersed.

No, my Grandparents used to have a house on Siesta Key before Sarasota Real-Estate exploded and became millionare candy. I went to summer camp at ODA when I was little. I know some people in Sarasota, but all of them are swimmers.

Those things look really cool, but I don't have one cause they're expensive and my room is too messy for something like that. For those of you who don't know what he's talking about it's a glass sphere that contains a self-sustaining ecosystem. It's a great conversation piece.
