Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
RCFreak replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Check what Guy quoted very carefully. Haven't been on Voyage, but this can only be a good thing for it right? I can't wait until I can finally get my butt back to Holiday World after visiting back in 2003. -
Nerdiest Coaster/Theme Park thing you've done.

Went on an international TPR Trip, that's about as nerdy as it gets! Not that that's a bad thing. -
Tomorrowland refurbishment ( DLR )

You're my hero. I don't know why so many people are against using a movie to create new rides. It's not really what story is used, it's how it's told. Isn't Journey to the Center of the Earth, one of the best Disney rides ever created, based upon a few ideas of Jules Verne? Not necessarily based on a movie, but is it not based upon a previously crafted story with a Disney Twist? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see more creativity and originality to the stories we're presented in rides, but fact of the matter is using an already established license will most likely always result in much more merchandise sales. Of course that is what leads to getting budgets approved and rides actually made, how much money it can make the business back. So if using the story of cars gets me a $400 Million attraction then so be it. On the subject at hand, I like the direction they are already heading, they added a bunch of seating around that "terrible water attraction" with trees giving it a much more organic feeling. They are going to add Star Tours 2, which should add another breathe of fresh air to that area of the park, and there is a rumored E-ticket heading back to the area of Innoventions will possibly another welcome addition. Another rumor is they are actually trying to figure out what to put up on the rocket rods track. My wish list does include a replacement for HISTA though. -

hahaha forgot about how crazy that blow-up slide actually was! Nice report, brought back a lot of fun memories. I just hope next year is just as good. I actually was exhausted that weekend (not sure if I actually introduced myself or not) I literally drove from a few days in Las Vegas to the birthday party to WCB the next day. It was good times lol. -

^It is actually a lot of firsts for Vekoma (LSM lifts!) Uh if you are referring to the Michael Fay incident in 1994, he was living there at the time and was arrested for theft and vandalism. Hardly line jumping at an amusement park. -
I'm sure any of the stores in the park or outside in the marketplace would qualify as a Knott's merchandise location for that promotion. Unrelated note, just saw this video today. It's of Chinese pop star Sun Ho's "new" (released in September) US single "Fancy Free" and it seemed as if it was completely filmed at Knott's. It's Lady Gaga-ish in that it's faux-rock in a completely pop sort of way, so you have been warned.

Holy crap that looks insanely fun! I haven't been on Go-karts in a few years. Makes me seriously want to look into going to the K1 out here in Ontario.

^Wouldn't really seem right to me unless they had Idina Menzel as a cameo too (Rachel's biological mother? I don't think they showed a picture of her and they look very much alike and they said they wanted to bring back Kristin's character for another cameo (*hint* *hint* Glee producers). I can't stand how lea Michelle starts the song off, but I do like how the song ends up with Lea and the gay boy (will never remember his name) harmonizing. Of course doesn't hurt that I belt this song every chance I get in my car... /gay

The chick looks exactly like Miranda Richardson. And if it's not, they should change it, cause the figure looks more like her then any of the other figures do of their respective celebrities. Also the guy in that pic looks like a strange combination of Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig lol. -

Sinister Pointe: SILENT HILL and FEAR Mazes
RCFreak replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Got home from this a few hours ago and I have to agree with Wes, both were really excellent and with a $2 off coupon that can be found off of their website an even better value. I went with my Sister, my cousin and a friend and we all had a blast! We got our tickets and they made us start off with FEAR (Personally I would have done it the other way) but it was great to start off with the best. They kept the groups VERY small meaning longer lines can be had, but if you see the lines are too long they do offer front of the line passes. When it was our groups turn, they bring you into a small room and explain the "rules" of the game. Play the game and you'll make it out alive and possibly fully intact don't and you may find out what FEAR really is. And with that they let you in to make it through the dark passages and traps they have laid out for you. I didn't do Saw last year, but I have a feeling many of this was re-used, not that I'm complaining, I did think this was the better of the two mazes, but it did have a very Saw vibe to it, which I really enjoyed. I also liked having more then one path to choose even if it was a tad confusing at some points not knowing were to go, it really added to the element of chaos and surprise. Some of the stuff they make you do (no spoilers here) will put some people through there limits. This isn't your typical haunted house. Silent Hill was a little more of a let down, but still really great. I would put the quality at the more recent offerings at Knott's that had movie tie ins (aka more money) which really puts you in the story. I'm not the biggest Silent Hill fan, but I've played some of the first game and watched the movie and that was more then enough to let me recognize more then a few things from the story. This maze also had much more talent throughout and provided plenty of scares for those who jump at everything (or nothing as I did at one point opening a curtain to go through lol). After reading the review I was pleasantly surprised (and startled) by a Pyramid head monster after having a great encounter with his Great Knife. I would also love to point out that the nurses in the Maze acted exactly like their game counter parts and successfully made me pee a little bit. Haha ok not really but that was awesome and worth the $9 we paid for it. Also not mentioned yet is they take your pictures at... uh... "Strategic" times throughout the mazes and offer them for purchase at the end of your experiences. Also a nice little touch as you really don't know when they will take your picture. There is also a Scare Zone outside of the ticket booths, but it was limited to one hilarious slider who was all over both lines and the ticket area. Overall I think it's a great local haunt with some very good quality mazes and I read that next year will be in a new location, so I hope they can find a larger area and improve on what they already have with either more or longer mazes. Sinister Pointe is definitely worth a trip through if even for the Interactive FEAR maze itself. -
I'm sure it's Fox now realizing how popular the show really is and scrambled to get out a DVD as soon as they possibly could (there are very few shows I can think of that don't get a full season release that are not animated and this quickly)

HELP! Sudden trip to DisneyLand
RCFreak replied to QueerRudie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
BUSY! The park will most likely reach capacity so make sure you get there EARLY and use fastpass as much as possible and get a handstamp if you leave either park, since the birthday admission only get's you into one park only, but you can upgrade to a parkhopper for $20 I think. It's also a night of Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party, so DCA will close early (meaning all most of the locals will only be heading to Disneyland park that night) and Disneyland will be very busy. Happy Birthday and good luck with those crowds... -
