I guess I'm disgusting cause I laughed my head off when I watched the video the first time. And if it were me on the train, I would have been more calm as I know what was happening and have had to deal with more ride accidents then I ever care too. And notice the two behind them not freaking out. Stuff happens all the time and they weren't horribly injured so why not laugh at it or make light of the situation (Isn't that the whole point of websites like break.com)? It's not going to change what happened either way. Don't get me wrong though, I'm glad they are ok and nothing serious happened. I thought the same thing happened on TTD back when it first opened in 03. But unlike Xcelerator, people actually got pretty hurt on TTD. Isn't that right or am I dreaming? ^For real, they are lucky nothing happened to them. Yeah it's happened before on Top Thrill Dragster, and it was more serious then these two, but nothing life threatening. Here's a news article about it. I'm sure whatever changes were made are already in place at Xcelerator and not much could have been done to prevent something like this. At least I hope not, but that may be an entirely different subject.

SFMM is also the ONLY park in the US That is consistently open year round and only sells Season passes. This is excluding the "fun cards" Busch and Universal Studios Hollywood sell since they offer full annual passes as well. The difference being the season ends at the end of the park's operating schedule for in any given year (Only good until the end of 2009 in this case for SFMM) as opposed to Annual passes which are good one year from date of purchase. My guess is SFMM feels they can hold out longer to sell the passes as they don't have to worry about the park being closed early in the season for people to take advantage of purchasing the passes early.

Kanye West is probably the most hated person right now

^Except they have a channel that only shows videos (MTV Hits, it's not available everywhere, but it does exist) I didn't like him before and I'll continue to think he's a douche. nothings changed for me really. -

My favorite moment of 2004 was taking a boat around during Halloweekends when Paddlewheel was still open and literally not being able to see an inch in front of the boat. Scariest moment of my life not even seeing the sides (which is dangerous since it's not on a track and navigating the Millennium bridge is bad enough being able to see it and plenty of things to crash into, like the train tracks...) and the animations still chattering away in the distant fog. The air was deathly still that night and they turn the fog machines toward the lagoon if the trail gets too thick with fog so it all just hung over the water. -

^RIZZO! Yeah I'm pretty sure it is part of the Muppet Series. Those freakin Vinylmaitions are addicting, I already have three and I'm going to pick up a few more on my birthday with the funcard (like seven more lol). Awesome report sir, couldn't make it out this year, but there's always next year, and it looks like they put out a good product, and not just in the theme park aspect. A lot of movie news has been spilled (Pirates 4 Summer 2011!) and just a lot of cool stuff in general. -

Which again, is part of my problem, the way he phrased his entire first paragraph was less asking and more commenting that this ride shouldn't cost $6 million more then Pilgrims Plunge even if it ended with a question mark, and is a completely different ride at a completely different park with different construction hurdles to get around. And this isn't limited to 15 year olds, but I was only commenting on his age and the tendency for younger members to think they know more about a certain subject when they really don't. All you have to do is look at how many times (young) people try to correct Robb, Elissa, and even Dave Thomas when it's clear those three, as an example, have way more experience in the subject being discussed usually theme parks, video games, or the entertainment industry. If he merely asked something along the lines of "Pilgrims Plunge was only $4.5 million, I wonder why this is $10.5 million?" I wouldn't nearly have had a problem with it. -
How fast is Eagle's Fortress?
RCFreak replied to CreditCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
And as pointed out, it's more of a sustained speed throughout the ride (and as reported runs faster then intended whether or not that speed is what is on RCDB is debatable), Iron Dragon has a big drop off of it's first lift where the ride it's it's top speed, and I can see Ninja hitting 55 when it goes over Jet streams lagoon for the first time. As far as I can tell from the Robb's POV, there doesn't seem to be a big drop anywhere on the ride (The one actual drop seems like one of the tamer parts of the ride lol) just lots of twisting and turning downhill keeping good speed. -

Ok then, I'm glad you don't see why the cost is 10.5 million, there can be many many reasons for this, perhaps on the island there isn't sufficient power for the ride or the effects they have planned so they have to build a new line out to the island. From what I can see they are going to keep Paddlewheel open so they will have to drain the lagoon and build under (and it's pretty deep in some parts of that lagoon up to 30' if I remember correctly). Even if they put it on on of the other rides lines, they still have the challenge of transferring the power onto the island. The ride runs right over Paddlewheel's path and takes up a lot of former real estate occupied by the rides animatronics (most noteably, the "Canfield and McGee" section of the ride which deals which two feuding families over moonshine, Good job Cedar Point on that front) and static displays (The town of Seville comes to mind as well as Bucky the Beaver). So incorporating this ride into that area of the park where they chose means they have to reorganize more then Holiday World building on an open area of the park. Not to mention if they have to make any actual changes to the island itself for the ride. We also don't know if they will have to reroute the train as it runs right next to the planned area of the ride. It all adds up very quickly. Point is, no company is going to spend more then they really have to on large projects especially in this financial climate, so it's not like they are over inflating the cost of the entire project just to make the price-tag sound more impressive. The ride is $10.5 million for a reason whether you see it or not. I partly agree here, I already mentioned in my previous post that as a former Capitan on Paddlewheel I am saddened by how much more this ride will destroy the ambiance the ride had when I was there (2004-2005). But Will admit the ride looks fun and a much needed addition to the park after the removal of White Water landing. Moving on to other discussions in the thread, the second drop may be smaller but it will be much more visually impressive then the first drop. Holiday World's Pilgrims Plunge proved the splash from the drop was less then impressive despite being a taller drop then say, Perilous Plunge or even Snake River Falls which will be right next to the ride, that both have very impressive splash sizes. The resulting splash from the 85' drop can't really "sell" the ride as much as Intamin had hoped, so Cedar Point did the better thing and added a theming element similar to Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure which not only will add an additional way to get you soaked, but will also serve as the ride's "signature" which will be highly visible off of the train. Another great move on Cedar Point's part as they are aiming for the families that ride the train to head over to this new attraction. The difference is a splash in a 3D rendering is impossible to predict as it will never be the same twice and that was more wishful thinking, not so with major special effects the park plans to add (noteably the nice throwback to WWL with the rocks with the waterfall section on the island). All you have to do is look at the concept videos of Maverick and what actually came to be to compare this. That would be Maverick's concept art which you should compare to this ariel picture of the ride. Sure not absolutely everything made it in and it's not all exactly the smae, but Maverick was much more ambitious in the theming presented in the concept video (which is made far before the ride is debuted and built, and things change all the time as new budgets and issues arise during the construction process. And this is not only in amusement park rides, but in almost every aspect of life. So yes I would pay close attention to what's in the renderings. And be ready to buy a poncho if you don't want to get soaked. Of course they could always try a "winter mode" which they have tried before on their water rides (the mags on Perilous Plunge that never quite worked, but can control the size of the splash) could turn down or off the extra water effects to keep the ride running in more various temperatures and still have more ridership. How do you know how long the interval will be between the two rides when even Intamin and the programmers don't know exactly on SRT. Sure they have their estimations (which predicted the splash in the Pilgrims Plunge animation) but in the real world it's quite defferent until they have the boasts running through. You never know SRT could have even longer intervals depending on how fast they have the lift. Of course now I'm being picky just to be picky. Oh, I'm sorry...I forgot that 15 year old teenagers can't read or make observations. Maybe if you opened your eyes and stopped being so stereotypical, you could actually read over my post and tell me what you find wrong with it. I didn't think you had to be an "expert" to comprehend a couple of press releases... As much as people seem to hate them, they are Stereotypes for a reason, and please I would love to know which Stereotype I have fallen into this time (Being a homo beaner from Southern California, I have quite a few I can pretend to be lol). You don't have to be an expert to try and comprehend a couple of press releases, but you should actually be more informed when you make the statements you did and in the tone in which you presented yourself (and not just in this thread). Chose your words wisely kids, someone is always watching. -

Try 4.5. I don't understand how this ride could possibly cost $6 million MORE than Pilgrims Plunge, which not only is 40 feet taller, but also uses an elevator lift, which surely wasn't cheap. I know that this ride has an extra drop, but that second hill is less than 50ft tall, and uses a traditional lift hill. How does that add up to $10.5 million? But that aside, I think this looks like a great addition to the Point. It seems like it will be in a nice location, and the look of the final drop into those "rapids" will turn out to be really cool, I bet. Judging by the fact that the Pilgrims Plunge's boats are dropping from an extra 40 feet, and that you rarely get completely "soaked" on that ride, I doubt you will get as wet on STR as many of you are imagining. Of course, if they end up installing that waterfall as it is in the animation, that may cause problems...by you shouldn't pay too close attention to the 3D renderings on a ride like this. (Remember how large they displayed PP's splash as being? Yeah...that's not how it turned out). With only 7 boats, PP's line never stops moving, and I'm guessing that it also has longer blocking intervals, because of the elevator lift. Therefore, I doubt capacity will be much of an issue on this new ride. Can't wait to ride STR next year! lol 15 year old "experts." -

If you watch the animation, you will get completely soaked on this ride. Looks like a decent addition to the park, but as a former Paddlewheel captain, good bye to what little charm was left along that side of the ride. -
The infamous Rollback!

The first year Top Thrill Dragster opened, we were filming for the ride's commercial and CBS morning show and I was on the second loaded rollback ever (also first televised lol). It was fun, but overall pretty overrated for how people put it the experience on a pedestal. -

I went yesterday to meet some friends and the hope that Murphy would show up and it did not fail to at least make an appearance. The thing is much more impressive in person then the videos show. I just hope they can get it to move a little faster, and during the first show the flame thrower effect was not working, but at least they managed to at least get the poor girl up. I recorded some of the show, but it is a rather large file (and HD!) at 179MB but it gives a slightly different angle then the other youtube video. But that's what I get for showing up one minute before the show was to start with the hope of running to main street for the fireworks to start. ANyway enjoy the video and YAY Murphy! Disney to acquire Marvel
RCFreak replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm sure this had a LOT to do with the popularity of DisneyXD (formally Toon Disney) in attracting younger boys while the Disney Channel is overrun with programing that appeals more toward the girl mindset. Wes is right this is definitely filling a hole that Disney never really had a handle on (I would say Pirates was the start) and to quote it again just because it's awesome in it;s wisdom: I also see this as a great way for Disney to re-launch their Hollywood Pictures brand leaving Mirimax as their dramahouse, Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar as their mostly kid friendly fare and Touchstone which has the Dreamworks deal being released under it as well as most of the Bruckheimer blockbusters. And yeah I'm not even really looking at this from the Theme park angle, I'm sure it had a little to do with it, but nothing as much as access to most of the characters for various projects. Sony has Spiderman forever as long as they keep making movies (similar to the Superman Deal Warner Brothers has that they will soon lose that license if they don't make a movie soon, I know it's a DC character, but the licensing is similar) and I'm sure their are other deals such as that out there with the other characters in various aspects. -

^There's a reason for that, go look up Donna Frye and Journey to Atlantis. Hard Rock Park would never see the light day with people like her living in that city. I think it could have faired much better in Southern California then where it is now in Mrytle Beach. I also think now that the park has had a lot of press, next year could be much bigger for them if they can manage to market themselves right (aka a lot more) and add a few more attractions.

^With what you want to do, you can get two dell laptops for around $1500. Would be easier on the family to have more then one computer. I just bought an 16" HP latop for about $900 (including taxes and fees) in March and it runs Photoshop and Adobe Premier just fine. I have RCT3 installed and while I haven't fully messed around with it, it runs fine on my computer (as does No limits and I just got Sims 3 so we'll see how that runs) and I could have got it for about $200 less with more features if I used online coupons (just do a google search for Dell coupons or HP coupons they're always out there) So I think it would kind of be a overkill to go Mac Book Pro. But if that is your perogative then by all means get what you really want if you plan to have this for a while. Also if you do go Dell, Windows 7 comes out on Oct 22 so if you get a new machine before then it will most likely feature a free upgrade. Whatever system you get, I recommend Open Office for a very suitable Microsoft Office equvilent. It's free and basically does the same stuff as the paid versions.

Haha That's the excuse your entertainment friend gave you last year (at least that's what you posted). A few instances of it are fine, my problem is it was in EVERY SINGLE HOUSE last year including the terror tram. Orlando didn't have nearly as many (I don't remember getting soaked going through those houses aside from getting dripped on in the sleepy hollow house which I thought was fine, it added to the creepy factor having the hanging severed heads be soaked). And maybe it was the scareactor controlled ones that were the most annoying, but most of the ones in the Saw house sound like they will be bad. I'll still probably head out to the event, and it's probably one of those things that I'm overreacting to, but it annoys the crap out of me, and if that's my only real complaint then they must be doing something very very right!

I'm pretty sure the blocks are like any other coaster in that they just escort people off the train on row at a time and down the stairs. If a train stops on the lift and they need to unload, they take the loaded train to the top and unload from up there (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) the same way any other coaster would.

The first slide to go up hill opened in 1994 (Dragon Blaster at Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, TX), the method used is different, but I'm sure RCT1 is based off the watercoaster model. Water coasters use water as propulsion as opposed to the ProSlide Rockets which use LIMs such as Wildebeast.
