Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
RCFreak replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't realize last year was a while ago. Anyway, this coaster looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll get to kennywood sooner rather then later. -
^It does, but at Cedar Point they'll make you stand the right way, otherwise they'll get into trouble. Basically it's stand up straight with your feet flat on the floor making sure your heels are touching the back of the car and the seat is up between your legs. Slightly bend your knees to avoid passing out, and when the seats lock position, push down to make sure it clicks. That is the way B&M and Cedar Point want you to ride the coaster. During the ride, make sure all the pressure is on your feet and not your junk otherwise it'll be a much more uncomfortable ride.

Awesome TR, I need to eventually get over there and ride all of those coasters. -
Theme Park Channel
RCFreak replied to dragsterfan420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Honestly, my first reaction is meh. Sounds like the majority of the theme park sites already out there. Depending on how they do the webisodes those might be cool/unique-ish or very annoying like some of the podcasts floating around. Everything else I can find here (or will in the future. YAY new Park Index when that launches to feature user reviews) or any of the other four or five major coaster sites I can think of off the top of my head. -
^Disney and Six Flags are actually on the same freeway (Interstate 5) and pretty easy to get to. Disney's offramp leads directly to a parking lot (does it still with all the Carsland construction, any local know?) Six Flags is a simple turn to the left off of Magic Mountain Parkway. You can also access Knott's off the 5 (Exit Beach Blvd turn right and head down to the park) the only one that's no easily accessable off the 5 would be Universal which is on US Route 101, which connects to the 5 to the south of where Universal is. LA is tricky cause there are a ton of freeways that are not that different or can get you places "quicker" but the easiest would be to stick with the 5. And yeah it is as bad as you've heard lol.

Yeah, LA's Metro system is by no means anywhere near useful. Universal Studios is actually the easiest pak to get to without a car as there is a subway stop for the park off of the Red line as well as shuttle service from the Anaheim area (clicky) All the other parks are definitely not as easy. SFMM is very difficult without a car and being able to actually visit the park (which will be only open weekends only at that point.) I'm pretty sure there is a way to get up to the park with public transport, but it will take several hours both ways to catch the right combination of trains and busses. If you where to stay near Universal, you would have to catch the Red line to Union Staion, then catch a Metrolink train up to Santa Clarita, then the right busses to get you to the park itself. Also keep in mind the park has limited hours and you'd have to make sure you can get back. Disneyland and KBF are close enough to each other that public transport would actually help. And again, if you were to stay near Universal the whole time, you would need to catch the Red line to Union, then grab a different metrolink train over to Anahiem. The stop is actually behind Angel's Stadium, which is a little too far to walk from the park, but they do provide a shuttle that goes directly to the park.

Oh goodness, Blue Horizons is a horrible show. Ok, it's not horrible, but I would prefer it NOT coming to San Diego, while yes Dolphin Discovery is a very old show, I don't think Sea World is doing the world a favor in replacing any and all educational material with extra feathers on the divers suits.

From what I remember reading, the SFDK Tony Hawk is not a portable model, but one that would take advantage of the concrete slab that was left behind by Zonga instead of tearing it all up and making new footers, it's a clone of Hankatten at Bon Bon Land. Personally I would love to see SFMM get a Maurer Söhne spinner. I don't even care about it being Tony Hawk themed or not, but that would be another red track and black support coaster at the park, if they kept that color scheme. The biggest problem I see, is most of them seem to be 48" rides, for the bigger models at least. It would be nice to see something for the under 48" crowd that is still fun for everyone else, aka not a kiddie coaster. Seems the Intamin Spinner can be just as fun though, so I wouldn't be opposed to that, just something that's not a clone!

^LOL! Whats the point of seeing it if your not with a little kid that watches Playhouse Disney? Do yourself a favor and dont bother seeing it Eh I'm on a quest to do everything there is to do in the parks as I usually am there a few hours every Thursday morning usually by myself so some things are better left undone until the right opportunity shows up lol. That and I'm a show dork.

^^Old tickets are WAY different then other people's tickets that your sister ended up getting (especially after they switced to the biometric system a while back in orlando). My feeling is who really goes to WDW for one day and to one park without looking at the other options, Which seems to be Disney's whole scheme, get people to pay more up front now for a longer "cheaper" experience and get people to come back. As for the DLR and the now absurd prices for their passes, DAMN! My pass is up in December and I might downgrade to a Deluxe (although we'll see when time comes as up $34.08 a month is still a bit much for a premium)

Holy crap! now that IS whore-ish! lol can't wait for the amazing pov although I think I can recreate it by walking around in a circle...

Draky?

Well you can always not buy Flash Pass ahead of time, and then scout the wait times after you've arrived along with the crowds. That being said, "summer weekend" should be all you need to know about what the crowd level will likely be. Not only is it "summer crowds" but it's also one of the Free Friend Admission Sundays in the season pass coupon book, so it may effect crowd levels.

^1) not a fair, but clicky so it can happen. 2) Matterhorn has had all of it's steel track replaced since it opened. So while yes coasters do deteriate, it's up to each park how far they want to go to preserve a ride. Obviously, InBev/ Busch doesn't want to invest into maintaining or improving the coasters situation (what ever it is) Hopefully we can just hope Busch will add a quality coaster/ atrraction/land that will be as fun and as thrilling as BBW.
-
Sierra Sidewinder (Knott's Berry Farm) is a Mack Spinner with multiple cars per train, a 42" height requiremnet, and is really damn fun! Busch could do great things with Mack and a large instalation of there spinner. Add me to the list of people who would like to see another family type coaster to the line-up. I've not ridden BBW, but suspendeds are high on my lists of favorite types of coasters, and I'm really bummed I'm not going to be able to ride this one as many people have said it's one of the best. And sucks even more that I was probnably going to head out that way next year! oh well, mediocre B&M's will have to suffice.

Photo TR: Disneyland Resort Paris (01/07 & 02/07)
RCFreak replied to Beeja's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Excellent TR! What a lucky goddaughter she is, and what a gorgeous park Disneyland Paris is. Thank you for sharing your pictures. The Demon's name is Chernabog and has been featured in a few Disney related projects including Fantaisa, Fantasmic! and the soon to be World of Color as far as theme parks are related. Can't wait to see more of your pics! -
Cedar Point or Universal Studios
RCFreak replied to Sain4847's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
See, this to me is false. Not completely, but mostly. I will agree that Universal is way better at immersive themeing, but Cedar Point has tons of things that the whole family can do together too. Cedar Point has five shows plus other various entertainment offerings, six shows if you have very little ones that would enjoy the Peanuts show in Camp Snoopy. They have the most amount of coasters as well as rides in general, there's bound to be some ride the whole family can do together. Of course Universal is Universal. I think the biggest difference between the two parks would be cost and how long you want to be at the parks, Universal has a 7 day ticket for $99 each and CP has a four pack of Tickets for $140 (about $35 a ticket) but you also have to take into consideration location, Orlando has pretty decent transportation so you might not have to rent a car, but in Sandusky, if you are flying, you have really have little choice but to rent a car. If you take these family vacations every year, as someone already mentioned, I would do Cedar Point this year and do Universal next year. Think of it this way, the most CP will do is add a ride, but Universal is adding an entire new land. -
