Six Flags Great America PhotoTR

I can imagine responses would be bad for TDK after a 2 hour wait. At Great Adventure even when the wait is around 20 - 30 minutes, people still come through the exit saying how horrible it is and not to waste time waiting. I can't imagine waiting longer than that for it and won't wait longer than 15 minutes for it now (I try to ride just before closing to get an under 10 minute wait). -
PTR: Hershey Park 6/30/08
YoshiFan replied to Speeddeamon128's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's probably because it's the first coaster you see from the entrance and it has a low capacity (Hershey says 830 an hour). It's my favorite wooden coaster but I only get to ride it once a trip usually because of the wait. -
Just another reason I hate the Boardwalk. What is the next ride to go for more stupid Boardwalk expansions. I am really angry at this decision. Everyone I told about this back when it was a rumor was not happy about it and felt Hershey was making a mistake. The Boardwalk should have been built away from the ride park like WWK is at Dorney or made a seperate gate. They tried to put too much in a small area and now it is at the expense of other attractions. The only positive thing about this is that it might help make coaster lines a little shorter but I don't think it will that much since last year I went on a slower day with the Boardwalk open and lines were still long, though that is also due to bad operations like only 1 train on each side of LR. It's funny how years ago I would say Hershey was my favorite park without hesitation, now I'm not so sure.

PCN Tours - PA Amusement Parks

Thanks, I'll try to watch some of them. I think I remember seeing one about William's Grove 2 - 3 years ago maybe on the same channel. -

I'm really surprised at the ride ratings given to the rides by CF. Pepsi Plunge a 5, Beaverland Mine Ride a 4? I guess it doesn't matter now. Sad to hear many of the coasters were purchased at the auction just to be scrapped -

YoshiFan replied to weatherkid17's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sounds like it was much more crowded than I would have expected since it seems kind of late in the year for school trips. I agree about the lockers, it slows down loading because people leave shoes on the side, then the ops ask everyone who left their shoes, then the people have to get out of the train to get their shoes, put them on and then the restraints have to be rechecked. Funny how Dorney allows loose articles and their coasters rarely stack yet with the lockers, I saw stacking and double stacking (though I have to get them credit for running 3 trains) on multiple coasters during my last 2 trips. -

That's messed up at Thunderhawk that they didn't let you ride. They aren't supposed to close the line until park closing and since you were in line at 7:25, they should have let you ride. Also not happy to see Hershey raised their parking from $8 to $10. I guess with SFGADV charging $15/$25, everyone else thinks they can raise prices as well -
Last Tuesday, Talon, Hydra, Steel Force and Thunderhawk were all walk ons, Laser was a 10 minute wait (Voodoo was closed). It still can get a line but that's due to the horrible capacity with a 2 train wait taking close to 10 minutes. What I think happened was someone was going to buy the ride last time it was up for sale last year. It was going to be removed from the park this year and that's why it wasn't in the rider safety guide (they left it out in 2 spots, which sounds like it wasn't an oversight). The deal fell through and that's also why the ride was ready for opening day since they had more work to do on the ride as they weren't expecting it to be at the park this year

The Dark Knight at Great Adventure -

Agreed, I got my 7th ride today and this was the first time I noticed it was Batman firing from the truck. It's so fast and the light near him goes out so fast I only thought he was at that first hairpin turn I mentioned before. They really need to slow it down so you can see everything. -

If Batman is in the same spot as in Great Adventure's version, he's at the first hair pin turn and firing from the truck during the first big drop. I agree about the Dark Knight. It moves too fast to see anything and I have never seen the reaction so bad from people coming off the ride. I have been to Great Adventure 3 times since the ride opened and every time people are either yelling about how bad it was and not to waste the time in line or giving it a thubms down, literally. Looks like the ride is much more popular at SFGAM than SFGADV. Today at GADV, it was less than a 20 minute wait. -
Sounds like things haven't changed at the park. I was there in 2003 and in 1997 and both trips were horrible. 1 train ops on almost everything, high prices and bad operations. As much as I want to ride Dominator and Avalanche, I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

What about adults at the park without kids, why shouldn't they be allowed to use them? I disagree with the whole policy. -

When I got to the park on Tuesday, it looked like they were working on the LIMS and while in line for Laser, I saw some workers with a mini cherry picker near the track. -

I wish they would have done the wristbands for Coasters After Dark at Great Adventure. The park was closed the day of the event (Physics Day) and the event was 5 - 10. They let the schools who wanted to, stay for Coasters After Dark even though Physics Day ended at 6. Lines were still very short but it would have been nice to really have it exclusive to SP holders. -

Best and Worst Log Flumes
YoshiFan replied to gldude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: Splash Mountain at WDW and Zoom Phloom at Morey's (it's about 7 minutes, 2 drops and goes under the boardwalk with a mini dark ride portion) Worst: Shendoah Log Flume (King's Dominion) -
Interesting article about lap bars...
YoshiFan replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In some cases it makes the ride experience better. Both Hershey's and Great Adventure's Arrow Mine Trains got rid of the single lap bar to individual bars and it makes it much more comfortable for taller riders. I no longer need to cross my legs to fit. -

I can't believe they weren't allowing re-rides during a special event (I also heard they don't allow re-rides during ERT sessions either). It gets fusturating having to walk through the empty queues for each ride at Dorney but I guess it's better than having to wait in a line. -
Great Park Operations
YoshiFan replied to denning's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dorney: Always 2 trains on Talon and Hydra except for weather reasons, even on days when I was the only rider on the train they still ran 2 trains. Same for Steel Force though I have seen it run 1 train maybe 2 or 3 times in 40 trips. There are always 4 restraint checkers on Talon and Hydra and usually Steel Force as well and when Steel Force only has 2 restraint checkers they are so fast it doesn't matter. I rarely see much stacking at Dorney. Great Adventure: They always run multiple trains on Batman, Nitro and Medusa. I have seen them using 3 trains on Nitro, Medusa and GASM a lot this season even when it doesn't seem neccessary. They allow re-rides which saves a lot of time when you consider how long it takes to walk through some of the empty queue's especially Superman and Nitro. -
PTR: GADV 5/18 with some Rain!
YoshiFan replied to Josh Davidson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You should be ok with lines on either of those days. I went today and went on TDK twice, at 2:00 it was 30 minutes, 15 minutes before closing it was 10 minutes. Nitro, Batman, Medusa, GASM, Rolling Thunder, RMT were all under 5 minutes. -
Great Adventure or Cedar point
YoshiFan replied to Sephiroth77's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think CP is better for families. Great Adventure has 4 kids areas which all are nice but there is very little for people in between kiddie rides and big rides. There are also very few tame rides. Cedar Point has Space Spiral, 3 antique car rides, the Paddleboat, Bumper Cars and way more flats. -

Unfortunately Dorney's mouse is run worse. It's the same model and they frequently only run 4 cars and 2 are usually in the station with 1 waiting to go into the station. Plus with the added seatbelts and the rule of no more than 2 adults per car, it makes the line crawl.
