Six Flags Mexico (SFM) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to zburns999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it was mentioned a while back that people may not be so critical of the ride there. Though it would be nice to see them add everything that is supposed to be there and not leave stuff out at the last minute like they did at Great Adventure. -
It was my 3rd favorite coaster in the park after Talon and Steel Force. I am really annoyed Dorney is getting rid of it. I think it is a huge loss for the park. I'm not even looking at it from an enthusiast's standpoint. It was one of the 3 non kiddie coasters that was at 48" or less, and it even though it as actually more intense (at least to me) than Talon and Hydra, it didn't look as intimidating. Plus not many parks have coasters with only 1 or 2 inversions anymore. I know that the only reason I ever tried a looping coaster was knowing that since Sooperdooperlooper only had 1 loop, if I tried it and didn't like the loop it was over after that. If SDL was gone as well, and all that was left was coasters with 4+ inversions, I don't know how quick I would have been to try a coaster with inversions.

My highlights were getting a SF SP for the first time and going to Great Adventure 17 times, including riding Kingda Ka for the first time this year (and I got 13 rides this season). Going to Hershey and ride the Canyon River Rapids on the 3rd last day of it being open and riding Fahrenheit Discovering how awesome WWK is at Dorney, I never realized how much fun waterparks are.

Cypress Gardens Closing...
YoshiFan replied to CoasterJunkie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No way it will survive as gardens/a water park either. Who is going to go to their waterpark with 5 slides even if it is cheap (under $20) and take a day out of their vacation when you have Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Aquatica and Wet N Wild all in the area. -
People Jumping the Line / Queue
YoshiFan replied to aldredd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
2 from Dorney Park in 2006: At Talon in August, Security did a great job overseeing the line. They had a guard standing on a platform in the middle of the line to watch for line cutting and other problems. Someone pointed out to the security guard how one person was in line and 2 others joined him by cutting through half the line. The guard told all 3 to go to the back of the line. They refused and he then said they could go to the back of the line or leave the park, their choice. 2 of the people left and the third one still wouldn't leave but after another threat of being ejected from the park, he left as well. A few minutes later the 3rd person cut again and the guard saw him. I couldn't hear exactly what happened but the security guard was saying something about how he never said all black people had to leave the line (I think the line cutter was claiming he was being told to go to the back of the line because he was black) and again refused to leave the line. The guard took this guy and escorted him out of line and possibly out of the park as well as the guard was gone for close to 10 minutes. I was very glad to see line cutting being enforced and handled seriously because as I'm sure everyone will agree, it's very annoying. Then in October I was in line for Dominator and there were 6 teenage girls ahead of me. A mother and her son cut the line to join that group of teenagers. Another mother from another group in line was furious and went to the front to tell the ride grouper that they cut the line and that the person who cut the line hit her. The person who cut got angry and started cursing at the other woman and claimed that if she would have hit the other woman "you would have known it." She said it wasn't cutting because her group was in line and that she did not hit her. The other woman said she elbowed her to get past her in line. Then the woman who cut starts yelling at the grouper because he said it is line cutting. Security was called and there within a few minutes. 4 guards showed up. The family who had said the others cut left the line because they were fusturated and security got the whole group in front of me, the 6 teenagers, the mother and son to leave the line. The teeangers and mother are cursing and another mother in line says to them "I don't appreceiate the language you are using in front of my kids" One of the teenagers says to her "Shut the **** up." Security saw and heard this and then escorted the entire group out of line and hopefully out of the park. It was annoying because the time it took for this whole situation to be handled, at least 2 - 3 cycles of the ride could have occured (I don't blame the employees or security, I just mean that the whole incident wasted time). -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

If you thought Flashpass prices were bad before, the park just had a huge price increase starting this past weekend: Here are the new prices: Regular 1 person - $45 2 people - $74 3 people - $103 4 people - $132 5 people = $161 6 people - $190 Gold 1 person - $90 2 people - $144 3 people - $198 4 people - $256 5 people = $306 6 people - $360 I have found the park took some steps forward but also some backwards this year. They had multiple trains running almost all the time. I never saw Nitro run 1 train, it it only had 2 trains a few times. Almost all visits it was running 3 trains. Same with Medusa and Scream Machine. Even the smaller coasters like Skull Mountain were always running 2 trains. However only having 2 restraint checkers made 3 trains on Medusa and Scream Machine pointless and they were always stacking or double stacking. Someone mentioned the lack of flats a problem. 17 rides have been removed since 2002. There are less than 12 non coaster, non kiddie rides in the park so the coaster lines are going to be longer than ever. Maybe I picked good times to go to the park but I was able to avoid lines for the most part. Basically I love the coaster collection and that is why I went to the park 16 times so far this season but I hate everything else about the park. -
Park opens all year around?
YoshiFan replied to pkd freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think that law applies anymore, I was reading that BGE is considering opening in December 2009 http://www.greatadventurehistory.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=364 -
Park opens all year around?
YoshiFan replied to pkd freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, I hate the offseason and would love to go to my local parks all year. I don't care how cold it is. I rode Steel Force last weekend when it was 42 out and it was cold but I still went back for another ride and would even ride in the 30's. All you need is a warm coat, a sweatshirt, jeans, gloves and maybe a hat and you are all set. Hershey is less than 2 hours away from me and they are open in December but it's almost all kiddie rides and some flats, no coasters open. It's a nice way to break up the offseason but it is like torture being in the park seeing all the coasters and not being able to ride them. -

Unfortunately, the Enterprise at Dorney isn't that great. I rode it tonight and the cycle has gotten so short to the point where the arm is fully tilted for maybe 3 rotations at the most. I'm still glad they have it since both Hershey and Great Adventure got rid of their Enterprise's within the past few years but I wish they cycle was a lot longer. -
I don't think most people even think about the size of the building, and even then I have heard a few people expecting it to be like Rock N Roller Coaster. I agree with you about the marketing. Had they marketed it as a family coaster, you wouldn't see the complaints. There are rides enthusiasts hate like Boomerang's and SLC's but I have never heard such negative reception about any of them compared to TDK. The worst was one guy saying in May when exiting to the line "please, I am begging you, get out of line it is horrible."
-
Okay. I need to but in here. Chiller was out on it's own reasons! That ride was a hex. Had nothing but problems, had a bad accident and cost the park too much money. BUT, TDK did NOT replace Chiller. TDK is actually on the spot of MTWE. Directly next to Chiller. Also, Autobahn (bumber cars), Music Express and Houdini are still there. I've walked by Autobahn and Music Express this seasn and I'll tell you it's still there. And Houdiniis still operational. Corprate told the park not to open it. But they are fighing for it next year. Music Express and Autobahn might also open next year. I know Chiller has nothing to do with TDK. But most people don't, that's why I mentioned it. On family fun fall night, I was talking with some people and one made that exact comment how TDK is a horrible replacement for the Chiller. I also know those rides are still there but with them being SBNO, it feels like we lost so much and gained little.

I was there last Sunday also. I was there from 6:30 - 9:30. I couldn't believe how empty it was. Voodoo, Steel Force, Hydra and Talon were all walk ons. I didn't know there was a hot dog eating contest, that would have been cool to see. The only bad thing was Laser was closed the entire time I was there (and it was closed on October 5th as well). I am leaving in a few minutes to go back tonight for a few hours, I am hoping it is just as empty as it was last week, -
People who aren't enthusiasts have no idea it is a wild mouse. At GADV, the entrance sign describes it as a "high thrill." I believe it was mentioned in another thread possibly on another site that a spokesperson for Great Adventure said last year, "If you like Kingda Ka and El Toro, you will like the Dark Knight" So when people wait in that line and find out it is just a mouse, they get upset. Lines for it haven't been that bad at Great Adventure. I rode it with a less than 10 minute wait on Friday night and since the next pre-show had not let out yet, it was empty in the loading area and I got a re-ride. Even so, I still see lots of people giving the thumbs down sign when they exit or saying how bad it is. Even families with younger kids have come out of the exit disappointed. Another reason people are upset is because they say, "they got rid of Chiller for this?!" In a season where we lost Chiller, Movietown Water Effect (Splashdown boat), Swings, Bumper Cars, Music Express and Houdini, the Dark Knight doesn't make up for all of that. It's a fun ride, but I will never wait more than 15 minutes for it.
-
It opened at 12 because the park wanted to save money since they felt it wasn't pulling enough crowds in the morning. I agree about the slow loading, it made running 3 trains useless because 1 or 2 were always sitting on the brake run. I blame the park more than the crew though. It's difficult to check a 32 seat train with only 2 people and not stack. That was a problem at all the coasters this year. They really need 4 people checking restraints on all 4 B&M coasters
-
I think more people would be willing to try the test seat if it wasn't right out in the front of the entrance where everyone is watching. It would also help if the test seats at all rides were accurate. Voodoo for example has a belt on the test seat that is much shorter than the actual belts on the ride. I see people try the test seat can't get it buckled and think they can't ride. I want to tell them they should try the ride anyway if they are close but I always keep my mouth shut since I don't want to get their hopes up and then they may not be able to ride.

Voodoo at Dorney Park last night around 8:30 p.m. It was a walk on. -
I used to be a huge Phillies fan. Back around 1991 - 1993, I watched a lot of the games on TV, knew the entire roster. Even into 1994 I was still really into baseball but the strike kind of ruined it for me and I never was interested in the game the way I used to be. I started watching more games at the end of the season and hopefully this will be enough for me to get back into watching most of the games next season. It would be nice to see them win the World Series since I still am upset about 1993.

I didn't think it was that crowded on that day at least compared to previous visits. I was there but not with TPR (couldn't get there by 8:00 or else I would have wanted join TPR for the day with that offer they had). It was just the operations were horrible, 1 train on Storm Runner, 2 trains on Fahrenheit with no single rider line open, 1 train on Sooperdooperlooper, slow loading etc.

The 5 minute dispatches have been a problem all season. Very fusturating when a 2 train wait turns into 15 minutes from the time you enter the line until you exit the ride. -

They used to but stopped because they were getting annoyed people were getting their pictures online for free. Now you only get to view the photos online if you buy the picture first.
