Yesterday was a good day to be at the park. It was cold, but sunny and not the least bit windy. El Toro was running really well. A cool thing happened as well: Richard Kind was at the park as well. My brother and I ran into him near the entrance to Nitro. Really nice guy, apparently loves roller coasters. There's an on-ride photo of him on El Toro floating around on the Great Adventure Connoisseurs Facebook page.

And the hits just keep on coming. -
As a Phillies fan, this was heartbreaking to hear today: Roy Halladay, former MLB star pitcher, killed in Florida plane crash Thank you for the incredible memories, Doc. You will be sorely missed.

LMAO... Oh man, I'm dying over here reading this trip report. Someone might be giving Bill a bit of a run for his money with these TRs. You had the same reaction as I did on my first S&S Free Spin ride. It makes me a bit nervous going over the top of the lift and it's a lot of fun on the way back down. Glad you enjoyed it! Otherwise, sorry to see you had a bit of a disappointing end to your season, but it's great to see you make the most of it!

Yea, I'm with Boldikus about Hersheypark. As much as I love it, it's too far away (2+ hours) for me to consider season passes, especially with the price ($153 is the most basic version of the plan). If I was a lot closer, totally, but it's just not cost-effective for me. To me, Hersheypark is more of a three-day weekend park while staying at the Hershey Lodge.

^^ I didn't know Peter North joined the forum. -
Aside from the occasional sports radio (97.5 FANATIC, 94WIP), most of my audio consumption is done via podcasts. I listen to a lot of different ones covering a variety of topics. The various Crooked Media podcasts: - Pod Save America - Pod Save the World - Pod Save the People - Lovett or Leave It - With Friends Like These A couple NPR shows: - This American Life - Planet Money - Serial (when it updates) - S-Town And some one-offs: - Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air - Thinking CAP - weekly show from the Center for American Progress - The Alton Browncast (food / media, though he updates relatively infrequently) - Talk is Jericho (Chris Jericho podcast, covers wrestling, rock/metal, and pop culture) - Good Job, Brains! (trivia) - Preston and Steve show (morning show on 93.3 WMMR - Philly talk, humor, topical news, music, etc) I infrequently listen to: - Stuff You Should Know (used to listen more, but I grew less and less fond of the hosts) - The Dave Ramsey Show (financial advice is pretty on point, but it's hard to take him seriously sometimes - I don't really care that he's a born again Christian, and he's good with not being too preachy on his shows, but his political rants are a joke and loosely based in reality)

I've only been on two: Voyage and Wooden Warrior. Even though I had a blast while riding it, and even though my issues with the second half of Voyage have been well-documented, I don't think I can argue Wooden Warrior is superior to a well-running Voyage. -

Because we saw a unusual design for a lift hill, the ride's budget and the park's use of new 'coaster tech' and wondered if it could be something different? Don't see anyone claiming they know of any secret element, especially given the park's use of 'groundbreaking development' and 'world class experience' rather than the 'world first' or 'record breaking' mottos of recent additions. If speculation is frowned upon then god help the people discussing what Epcot's Guardians of the Galaxy coaster could be. You have to keep in mind that it's not just about the speculation over this particular coaster. It's about the speculation over this coaster being the continuation of a long trend of each new AT addition being wildly hyped up and overblown, then failing to deliver upon said expectations. Here are some examples: Rita: Advertised as the ""Fastest Roller Coaster Yet", a whole whopping 61.1mph in 2005. Thirteen: Already covered ad nauseum by Robb. "Scariest Coaster Yet!" Yeaaaa, not really. Smiler: "Most Inversions, Yay!!" Yes, but the layout is really just two 7-loop coasters fused together. Not as impressive as if it was one full circuit. The rest of us are all burnt out on these "over-promise / under-deliver" situations. Each of the coasters above are widely considered to be "good, fun" coasters, but nothing near the hyped up versions some AT fanboys want us to believe they are. History is repeating itself yet again.
