  1. Six Flags Magic Mountain builds a roller coaster with ejector airtime.
  2. WOW! I hope Six Flags does this to all of their Batmans for fright fest or something. I can only imagine the intensity!
  3. Going backwards or forwards does not increase or decrease the amount of forces the human body can tolerate, because if we are talking about positive G's and airtime, the accelerations that you are experiencing are directed towards the center of the circle that the track makes; this doesn't change whether or not you are going backwards or forwards. Forward and backward accelerations (like launching and braking) are a completely different story however and have very different limits. OK, thanks for clearing that up. I still think a backwards hyper coaster would be neat. Navigating through backwards inversions are pretty common with the boomerangs and other shuttle coasters. However, backwards ejector airtime (or standard airtime in general) has never been attempted yet. What about El Toro backwards?! If that's not a thrill, I don't know what is...
  4. Awesome! I like the idea of doing it after the new attractions open! My first TPR event!
  5. I have wondered this for a while. It's a fun concept to think about. Looping wood coasters are growing. I would eventually like to see a complete circut roller coaster that operates backwards, preferabally a hyper coaster. Humans can only with-stand so many negative Gs, but while riding backwards you can experience much greater negative and positive forces. I think backwards airtime would be an odd feeling. We never really know. I have my heart set on majoring in engineering and hopefully design amusement rides, which is why I enjoy futuristic roller coasters so much. I guess only time will tell... I might be wrong about the higher tolerance of backwards G force. Anyone else know? Wikipedia said no but I remember Mythbusters doing something about G force and forwards/backwards tolerance.
  6. Drop towers are my favorite types of flat rides! I have been both on an S&S and Intamin, and there is a very distinguishable difference. -S&S' are scarier, but more fun! You get pulled down faster than gravity, so you experience -1Gs. -Intamin's, in the other hand, fall at the rate of gravity, so you feel 0Gs. Since you're riding an Intamin drop tower, I wouldn't be worried at all. Just have fun! I can safely guarantee tha you will like it! I personally like S&S' better because of the ejector drop rather than floater on Intamin's version. Either way they are amazing rides! Intamin towers are better for starters, so I wouldn't be worried.
  7. I'm 13. I have been riding roller coasters for as long as I can remember. My first "big" coaster was most likely Jaguar at Knott's. Before that I have probably only ridden small coasters at carnivals and other small parks.
  8. Oh I forgot about those. Thanks for clearing that up. Man, I was really hoping for a Stingray...
  9. I strongly believe it will be a Vekoma Stingray. It meets all of the criteria they are teasing. -It is the correct height (102 feet), and because of the Stingray's lift, you do look down at 102 feet. -Stingray's have 2 inversions. -Silverwood seems to have taken a liking with Vekoma because of their big success with the GIB. -It would definitely impact the skyline. -There is nothing like it in the U.S. I look forward to the official announcement from them on the 22nd.
  10. I am all for this idea! I just hope they don't go over-board on the inversions (oh wait, it's Six Flags Magic Mountain!). Either way, it will be an amazing ride! A dueling RMC iron horse sounds so awesome! I do have a question, though. Colossus opened in 1978, which makes it much older than Rattler or Texas Giant. Is the support structure strong enough to operate the coaster for another 10-15 years? I'm sure they'll do something to stiff it up a bit, but we have to remember that Colossus is over a decade younger than the other RMC iron horse coasters.
  11. I like loops, but not too many. Maybe between 4 and 7. I like airtime (obviously) but not INSANE airtime because the restraints always have to be extra tight. Maybe around -0.6 Gs to -1 Gs. The reason I liked loops in the layout is because it, in my opinion, keeps the layout fun; rather than hill, turn, hill, hill, turn, helix, etc. That's why I like Maverick so much.
  12. I'm typically not scared of roller coasters or thrill rides. However, there is one and only one ride that scares me every time I ride it - the S&S Screamin' Swings. I've been on the one at Knott's and Skyhawk at CP. Skyhawk is so insane! One time at Knott's I was riding the Screamin' Swing and the operator said, "Hello, welcome to the Screamin' Swing. Sit back and hold on to your itty-bitty little red lap bar. Enjoy!" It scared me so much! Great ride though!
  13. My first roller coaster of 2013 will most likely be at SFMM. It will probably be Tatsu or X2.
  14. Intellivision (I'm going to be honest; I don't know what these are...) 100% chance of $1,000,000 or 50% chance of $100,000,000
  15. Yah most people either love the expansion or hate it. I would have preferred something else, but I obviously have no control. As much as I hate to say it, KBF most likely will not get a giga coaster because of the space limits. I would enjoy a mini B&M hyper (like the one in Japan) but even that is pushing the possibilities. A park like Knott's would benefit more from something like a Eurofighter, like I said. I'm sure we all would love to see a B&M, but the park is so land-locked they don't have room, unless they have the coaster extend out of the park, but it's still unlikely because it would be so close to residential areas.
  16. I went to Knott's for the last time today for probably a while. I didn't have any pictures, but I do have some stuff to talk about. The New Years decorations look awesome! I love how they tie it with Christmas. Happy New Years to everybody! I would also like to add that Boomerang is going to fall apart any day now. It sounded like the up-stop wheel axle is falling off every time! This ride is more than 22 years old. Does anyone else agree that this ride should be taken out? We all know Knott's is in desperate need for a new thrill coaster. Is Boomerang next on the chopping block? I REALLY hope so. It's a waste of space. As for the possibility of a new ride, it could be anything. As long as it attracts the public, has good capacity, and of course, is a thrilling coaster. Anyone have any ideas? I think a Eurofighter (Iron Shark technology) would be a great addition! I don't know what a Eurofighter's capacity is like though. I've never been on one! Anyway, everything else at the park was great! It was super crowded, but my FastLane was worth every penny! Silver Bullet ran non-stop, two trains, all day long (oh wait, it's a B&M)! Xcelerator broke (big surprise) and Ghost Rider was running more than one train (even bigger surprise!)!
  17. I really wouldn't judge a loop size by crosstie count. Some are spaced differently than others. All loops on Arrow's ride aren't exactly the same height because on rides with two consecutive loops, the second one is smaller. They're all within 15-ish feet of the same size though.
  18. I couldn't agree with you more! I have been on 3 inverts (Raptor at CP, Silver Bullet at KBF, and Batman at SFMM) and I like Silver Bullet the best because of it's smooth ride as well as smooth transitions. Raptor isn't bad, but it does have the older B&M layout style, with tighter transitions and fewer flowing elements. It's the same thing with Batman. All of them are great rides, but I think Silver Bullet is the most re-rideable. Anyway, Gatekeeper looks amazing! I wish KBF would get something like this. We're still waiting on our next B&M...
  19. Positive: The highest positive G's I have pulled is probably on TTD, going up directly after the launch. About 5Gs. Negative: The greatest negative Gs I have pulled is Maverick's first airtime hill, after the "twisties". About -1.2 Gs. Lateral: Ghost Rider at KBF had some great laterals. About 2.5Gs. Acceleration: Xcelerator definitely had the most acceleration laterals. About 2Gs.
  20. If you really want thrilling coasters, then SFMM. If you want a great experience with good park service and cleanliness, then Disneyland. If you want a small mix of both, then KBF.
  21. It would be my #1, Millennium Force! The roller coaster is a ride that is enjoyable every time you ride it; you could ride it 100 times in a row and not get sick of it!
  22. I have never been to KI, but maybe SoB being removed is for the better. Hopefully some monster will appear in it's spot for 2014 or 2015.
  23. I don't mind it much. Being a kid, I realize that if a restraint can't hold 115 pounds, it's a pretty crappy ride. The sustained inversion on the Fireball is a lot of fun!
  24. I would also like to add another idea. I'm pretty sure nobody has mentioned this yet. Will we see realistic features like worn down rails, paint fading, etc.? I think if you are going to create a realistic coaster park, features like this would be essential! Performing paint jobs and annual repairs would be a key part of a roller coaster game.
