  1. La Ronde sucks. Thanks for the Canaba love. But you guys are jerks for getting the bobsled credit. I still cry myself to sleep over missing it. Le sigh.
  2. www.cuteoverload.com
  3. ^ I have park maps from before they changed it and it's called Wilde Beast. Maybe it was called Wilde Beaste in the 80s? Confusion!
  4. What I don't understand is how so many people got the idea that we evolved from monkeys. I think it's been said like ten times in this thread alone that we have a common ancestor. We did not come from monkeys. Also, I can't speak for anyone else but I've never had someone teach me evolution as fact. It's always been 'The THEORY of evolution' that was taught to us.
  5. That was you!!! Jer and I were at Canada's Wonderland on the 21st and we saw a guy in a Theme Park Review shirt run past us into the Bat's entrance. We were going to say hi, but you were too fast
  6. What? My bank never gave me lollipops! Even when I was a little kid. I feel cheated
  7. ^We also share 50% of our genes with bananas. I agree with pretty much everything you said.
  8. Great TR Cameron! I never really paid much attention to SDC, but WOW it looks like an amazing park. I love all the attention to detail in the themeing. Besides great rides of course, that really makes a park for me. Because of your TR, Silver Dollar City is now on the top of my 'parks I must go to NOWWWW!!!' list. Thanks for sharing
  9. So waist packs are allowed on every ride? Yeah, I used to wear one. This was the first year I wore cargo shorts. That's not the experience I had. In 2005 I was told I couldn't wear a waist pack on TTD. Jer was wearing glasses and they told him he'd have to put them in a locker, we showed the ride op that we both had button/zipper cargo pockets and he said we had to empty our pockets into a locker. Judging by the other experiences mentioned here, it sounds like we just got a very strict op. We didn't have this problem with Millenium Force or any other rides. Last year, I was also told I couldn't wear a waist pack on any of the Holiday World coasters. I know that has nothing to do with this topic, but I think you guys are going to Holiday World on your trip. Wes, at PKI I wore a waist pack on every ride and had no problems.
  10. Unless you mean North America, La Ronde isn't in America The park wasn't quite that dirty last year when we visited, but it was pretty bad. I'm surprised that it's actually worse! I was also really surprised by those 'garbage buckets' in the Goliath queue. So gross. I don't think I'll ever be going back there.
  11. Yes! On a Tuesday in early June last year. It wasn't as bad as your visit, but it was definately pretty bad, especially for a weekday. When we arrived two of the three coasters were also down, and the other broke down while we were in line for it! Our day ended up turning around and we did have a good time after the first several hours of let downs. It looks like you guys still managed to have a good time too! All these Cedar Point TRs are making me want to go now!
  12. Awesome TR, as always. You are truly a master of the artform that is the TR. I especially liked the trash can in a trash can in a trash can The human aquatrax thing was awesome. More TRs soon I hope!
  13. ^^ That's what was in the dictionary But I do see your point, it is pretty broad and it is pretty hard to define sport. I think with show choir and marching band the main focus on music, rather than the physical aspect. With cheerleading the focus is on the physical activity aspect, which is why I think it qualifies as a sport where as a marching band or a choir wouldn't.
  14. Gymastics is a sport, figure skating is a sport, so I definately think competitive cheerleading is a sport. Standing on the sidelines waving pompoms around isn't, but actual competitive cheerleading is. A sport is defined as "a physical activity [competition] against/with an opponent, governed by rules and conditions under which a winner is declared, and primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants.” Competitive cheerleading fits that definition so I'd consider it a sport.
  15. Applebees served me a bug in my food twice, and gave me food poisoning. This really doesn't surprise me. Maybe the kid was vomitting and sick because of their food, not because of the drink.
  16. Why is it so hard to get a dog? I don't believe in pet stores [unless they're only supply stores] and am against puppy mills and backyard breeders, but now I understand why people are so tempted to drive to the store to get a dog. It's so easy! Except for the part where the dog is most likely to have health problems. Also, nobody there cares if you know anything about dogs or not, they'll just hand one over to anyone. No questions. I've been researching puppy/dog care and training for months, I've been spending time with dogs, puppy proofing, everything. I am ready! The only problem is nobody I've contacted will return my calls or e-mails. NOBODY. We can't even get a rescue dog because rescues wont let us adopt one! We've tried. Their reasoning.. 1) We've never had a dog so we lack the experience they want, and 2) we have chinchillas and because other morons let their dogs play with their rodents and EAT THEM, they think we will too. When I say our chin room has a secure door that is ALWAYS closed when nobody is around, they don't believe that we'll be careful enough to close it every time based on the fact that so many other people have neglected to be. I haven't forgotten to close the door once in the 3+ years my chinchillas have been here. Plus, their cage is 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. What kind of small-medium sized dog [can't have a big dog right now ] can knock over a cage that big?!? Really, now. Why is it people like me who try to do things the right way get put through this crap when idiots who don't even know anything about dogs, nor try to learn, get what they want right away? No wonder 40% of dogs get given away within their first year. Sorry that was so long.
  17. We've gotten a couple annoyed looks when they wouldn't let us sit together and we've taken up half a train, but otherwise nobody has really cared. We've only had someone actually say something to us once, and that was on Pteranodon Flyers [but I really wanted to ride it, and not just for the credit]. The ride op at the entrance told us that if we wanted to wait 75 minutes for a crappy ride that lasted 30 seconds he wouldn't stop us. The line ended up being a lot shorter so it wasn't really that bad.
  18. I'm impatient, I hate lines. If it's an air conditioned line on a hot day, I mind a lot less, but I still don't like waiting. I take time to enjoy a park, walk around, see everything, do re-rides. I'm not really one to rush in and leave, but waiting in line isn't part of the 'enjoying a park' experience for me. I understand it's often impossible to avoid lines, but if I have the option of getting a fast pass I definately will. I understand the building up anticipation before you ride reasoning, but I tend to build up anticipation when I start planning a trip and am waiting to actually go on it. When I do finally get there I just want to ride and experience as much as I can while I'm there, and long lines make it so I experience a lot less! I counted down something like 300 days from the time Jer and I began planning our Toronto to Florida trip and that was enough anticipation time for me!!
  19. Yeah, we also rode both Hades and Avalanche several times last August, and both were absolutely FINE! We thought so too.
  20. ^ You'll still have to train her at home while you're going to classes and pretty much for the rest of her life. Puppy classes will help you teach her some of the basics and will help you socialize her, but training a dog is an ongoing process.
  21. It looks like a lot of fun was had at your wedding! Congratulations to you both!
  22. Definately sign up for a training class. If you can get a copy, Puppies for Dummies and Dog Training for Dummies are excellent. They use positive training methods and pretty much spell everything out for you. The Ultimate Puppy Toolkit is also amazing, but it might not be as useful to you since your puppy is a little older. If you want to check it out you can find it here.. http://www.urbanpuppy.com/faq.html If you use livejournal.com, there are several really great communities to help. This is my favourite.. http://community.livejournal.com/dogsintraining/ Even if you don't have a journal, most of the entries are public so it might be useful anyway. There are some good training tips on these sites.. http://www.k9deb.com/nilif.htm http://www.dogplay.com/ http://www.neilsnet.com/archives/list.shtml http://www.shirleychong.com/index.html Really, just try to read as much as you can and see what works best for you and your dog. Most importantly, be consistent! If you establish yourself at the top of the pack, you're going to have a lot less trouble! [Watch out for the 1 year mark because dogs will try to re-position themselves in your pack and you again have to make sure your dog knows that you are the boss. A good and easy way to do this from the beginning is to get your dog to sit before you put down their food bowl, let them outside, or give them a treat/toy..basically show them they have to work for things.] Personally, I'd also try to avoid anything by Ceasar Milan because I completely disagree with his methods, but I know some people swear by him. As for the nipping, puppies mouth everything because they go through teething just like human babies. One method that works really well is every time your puppy tries to put any part of you in his mouth, yelp. If you do this every time, your puppy will get the point that it hurts you and he shouldn't do it. I know it might sound a little silly, but when puppies nip each other, this is how they tell each other that it hurts. It will also startle him into jumping off you, and you can then praise him for staying down. If he starts mouthing your furniture or chewing on your fingers, try freezing a wet rag and letting him chew on it. That often helps with the discomfort they get from teething. For the jumping up, I'd do what Chrissie recommended..completely ignore him and turn your back. That way he'll learn that jumping up wont get him what he wants, which is most likely attention. To get your dog to sit, stand facing your dog with a treat in your hands. Put the treat infront of your dogs nose [but so he can't reach it], say 'sit' and bring the treat up over his head and back in a straight line until he is forced into a sitting position. He should look up at the treat as you are bringing it over his head and once you bring it far enough he'll be forced to sit down. Once he sits, give him the treat and say "GOOD SIT!" Try it a few times and depending on the dog [some take longer than others] you should be able to say 'sit' and have him do it without lifting the treat over his head. Training sessions should be short so the dog doesn't lose interest, so if he doesn't get it within a couple minutes let it go and try again later. Good luck! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me. I'm certainly no expert, but I've been researching puppy training and care for months because my family is getting a dog soon.
