  1. Nice TR! Glad to see another one from you and Catrina.
  2. Our TRs are so much better when I'm in them. Your dildo pen picture doesn't quite do it justice. You need one that shows the entire thing.
  3. What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did messing by the pool result in that?!?!?!
  4. When we went to Holiday World all we heard about it was, "OMG RAVEN IS AWESOME!!! TOP THREE!!! BUT LEGEND IS EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!" So it was a horrendous disappointment... it was only a notch above the kiddie coaster!
  5. Legend at Holiday World. Way, way, way hyped, and it doesn't even crack my top 30.
  6. Busch Gardens Europe! Easily my favourite actual park that I've been to. Such a beautiful place with good coasters and a bunch of other stuff to do! Plus they have very good food! And Colonial Williamsburg, if you or your grandmother is into historic stuff!
  7. I actually came in here to bring that up, glad I was beaten to it by you and texcoaster! Minebuster can generally be fairly smooth throughout the majority of the ride on the first two rows of any car. But the helix through the tunnel is a shuffler, it's awwwwwwwwwwwwwful.
  8. From Wiki: Canada also has a late-May holiday called Victoria Day [nicknamed the "May Two-Four (24)" weekend]. It is observed on the last Monday before, or on, the 24th of May, and celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday, and Canada's sovereignty.
  9. Those tiger pictures in the water are SO COOL!
  10. Much better! I approve of this TR. YAY mountain slides!
  11. Golden Star! Their veggie burgers are good too.
  12. Not to mention an awesome Canadian couple to hang out with!
  13. I'm not a big waterpark person, so maybe my opinion is invalid, but checking out the layout/slides, Soak City doesn't look like it's anything special... probably not anything you should fret about missing. The first time we went [for two days], we were quite worried about getting everything in in that amount of time. It turned out that we managed to get everything but TTD on the first day... and only because TTD was broken. Second day ended up being exclusively for re-rides, basically. Subsequent times we've gone, we've planned two or three days at the park, and have gotten quite bored on the third or so day. My suggestion is that you should probably take three days for the park. First day for getting all the credits, second and third for re-riding what you really like/hitting flats/checking everything else out. I always condone credit-runs on the first day, just so you can figure out what's good/what sucks. If you're hitting the water park, maybe schedule a fourth day, and hit the water park in the morning. Depending on where you live, you should be able to do that for the morning/afternoon, leave around 5 or 6 and make it home just after midnight. If you're really looking to cut costs, you could probably do two days for the park, with the third day half for water park/half for driving home. I'm assuming it's similar at CP, with the guidebook where you check off the rides. I can't verify that one way or the other, though. If you need any other advice or suggestions, ask away! We're not the most experienced CP-goers there are, but we've been quite a few times in the past couple of years, and always travel on shoestring budgets.
  14. This TR would be great if your wife was in it! It's still good though I think Jer and I need to visit Knoebel's with someone who 'gets' it, because I really don't.
  15. Good find, thanks! This guy's got some great stories... I wonder if he ever took up any of those hotel room offers.
  16. ^^ There's one on this site too.. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21006 Great TRs! It's really neat to get a look at parks we don't see many, or any, TRs of. I hope you and your family enjoy the rest of your travels!
  17. This is very sad, but so true! My first year in college, all but three people failed our first assignment because they didn't know how to use embedded citations. They pretty much just wrote what they wanted and didn't cite anything, much like this essay. It really made me wonder how these people got accepted in the first place. How do you make it through high school not knowing how to write a proper essay?
  18. "Day of dissapointment/mother's day" hahahahaha.
  19. This reads like something I would've written in the fourth grade. The subject matter is way too broad, the writing isn't very good, the grammar is awful, your sentences are redundant (ie "Since no two amusement parks are exactly the same, each experience is different" and "American families moved to the suburbs where life was less hectic and more calm"), you capitalize words randomly, you have no direction or conclusion, and some of your sentences aren't even complete thoughts. You make a lot of claims that aren't backed up by facts, like insinuating that every guest is going to have an amazing experience every visit. You also list a lot of rides but don't explain what most of them actually are. You may know what an inverted coaster is, but someone who doesn't know anything about roller coasters won't. Basically, you need to pick one topic. You say a lot, but it doesn't actually go anywhere. Don't try to tell us about the history of amusement parks, every kind of roller coaster, all the different flat rides, and anything else that you can think of in relation to parks. Pick one of those things and write a good, detailed essay about it. Finally, get someone to edit your paper. If you were to hand this paper in to me and I was your teacher, I'd fail you on the spot based on the awful grammar and lack of direction.
  20. ^ I was thinking the same thing about the buddy list when adding friends was mentioned. I really like the idea of being able to link to threads we've started. A few times I've had someone ask me to link them to a TR Jer and I have done and since I fail at the search function, it was a challenge to find them. I think a ride count or a way to keep track of what you've ridden, or even just a list of parks visited, would be neat! A lot of sites already offer this option, as evidenced by many TPR signatures, but it would be cool to see where other TPR members have been. It's probably more work than necessary though.
  21. I use them so I can read all the blogs I keep up with in one place instead of wasting time visiting them all individually to see if they've been updated yet. I don't really see how it would work for a forum though. Maybe just for front page updates like other people have mentioned, but even that doesn't really seem necessary.
  22. I could answer that for you if the park were actually opened as scheduled on the three days we attempted to visit. So we're just going to assume it's a dump
  23. I agree with this, but only to an extent. Sure a great photographer can take great pictures with a crappy camera, and an awful photographer can take horrible pictures with a great camera, but having a higher quality camera allows you to do a lot more. I have a Sony Cybershot and while I can take great pictures with it in the sun or in a bright room, it takes awful pictures in poorly lit rooms or areas with tungsen lighting. Using the flash would produce a picture where everything looked greasy/dirty, and diffusing it didn't make much difference. I tried everything, thinking it was my skill set that was limiting me, but even my photographer friends couldn't make it work. As soon as I switched to a Canon Digital Rebel XTi, problem solved. My daylight photos also improved because I had way more options with the settings. I'm still no great photographer, but I'm having a lot more fun with the XTi and can do a lot more with my photos. The variety in lenses also makes a huge difference. You couldn't do those close-ups that Hanno took on the Midwest trip, or the ones monkeypants(sorry if that's the wrong username) took at Cedar Point without a good zoom lens. Anyway, my point is that in many cases the equipment does make a huge difference. I second the recommendation for Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Great book!
