Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
dippindotsguy8 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't ridden Anaconda or Vortex, but considering the flack all the old arrow loopers get, and how decent I've actually found some of them to be (I love SFMM's Viper), I don't wish death on them yet. I'm sad to see the end of an era, and I hope this isn't happening. However, I respect the company's decisions if it needs to be done. On another note, I sure hope we don't lose Corkscrew over at Valleyfair... it's still our only looping coaster (where were we in the early 2000s?) and is one of the most tolerable arrows I've been on. -

I have mixed feelings about this whole expansion. I was never in the crowd expecting a giga in the first place, so I don't have that kind of disappointment. However, like others have said, they could have done a much more creative family attraction. I definitely agree that the park is going to need to add something unique sooner or later if they want people to keep renewing their annual passes and continue to frequently visit the park. The flyers, on the other hand, are a great idea! I'm really excited to have one of these rides nearby. I also am not too upset about the scrambler. Is it boring and uninspired? Absolutely. But with Knott's track record with that thing, I'm sure they won't hesitate to remove it again the moment they come up with a better idea. It's just been used as a placeholder for the last decade...

Types of theme park fan
dippindotsguy8 replied to Hexeffects's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am primarily a thrill seeker. I want rides that are intense (to a degree that they're still enjoyable). I want something that I'm actually hesitant to ride. I crave the rush I get whenever my brain is tricked into feeling like I'm in danger. Because of this, I also like scary movies, intense haunted attractions, and love to participate in extreme sports such as white water rafting, bungee jumping, skydiving, and freestyle skiing. That said, I really am a blend of all three categories, because I will ride less intense rollercoasters and find them enjoyable, and will ride things just for the credit. I also can appreciate the art/theming/atmosphere that theme park fans love. So in other words, while I still prefer raw thrill and intensity the most, I totally enjoy the other facets of the amusement industry as well. The best example I can think of is that I was much quicker to buy annual passes to Knott's and SFMM than I was to buy one for DLR/DCA. I did end up purchasing one just a few days ago, and I'm happy with it, but it took more consideration. -
4D Coasters
dippindotsguy8 replied to ViperLover's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you look closely at the track, you will notice that there are two extra rails on the track. The rails on the sides control the spinning. There are wheels on the train connected to "posts" that, when moved up and down, create seat rotation via some kind of gear system. Those wheels run on the two side rails, and as those rails move higher and lower on the track, the posts are pushed up and pulled down and the seats are rotated forwards and backwards. -

Five Guys voted favorite burger chain
dippindotsguy8 replied to gisco's topic in Random, Random, Random
In-n-Out is good, but the things I don't like are: 1. Having to ask them not to put 1000 island on it 2. lack of topping choices 3. I hate their fries... Five Guys has a pretty good burger, plus lots more toppings and amazingly good fries. If they had shakes, too, that would be amazing. -

Reride Policy
dippindotsguy8 replied to biker7766's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With Knotts, if you go when it's slow, you usually can re-ride all the time. If it's busy enough that it's hard to keep track of re-riders, and make sure that they are moving for people who are lined up for a particular row, they don't allow it. Basically, if it's enough people per train that it's chaotic with all the people looking for an empty seat, re-rides won't be offered. I don't work at knotts, so if anyone knows the exact policy, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. This is just what my experience has been. As for other parks I know about: Re-rides allowed -SFMM -Valleyfair! Not Allowed -Nickelodeon Universe -
It's a news and rumor site. He's not posting these as anything official. Lance is only posting them as things people have been hearing and whispering about. Rumors are just as often false as they are true. The only reason screamscape would lose credibility would be if they posted something as a news story that was false, or if they miss-quoted a source. If anything, you are just learning not to take rumors quite so seriously.

As much as I think barrel rolls would be sick on a racer, I just don't want to see such a classic ride that's still good get the Iron Horse overhaul. Like so many other coasters named on here, I'm just gonna vote topper track if absolutely necessary. AE is really a great ride. It's the coasters like Mean Streak that need Iron Horse, because they're not only rough, but also boring even when running well.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry that was taken as a complaint! I absolutely love going to the park during this part of the year because of how empty it is. I just can't figure out how they aren't operating at a loss. I'm glad Knott's is able to pull it off, unlike some of the other parks in the area. It was just a question, not a comment. My apologies

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how is it even worth it for the park to be open on weekdays right now? Are they really getting enough customers to offset their operating costs? I went this afternoon and rode both Xcelerator and Silver Bullet at least 5 times without getting off (and I could have gone much longer if I wanted to). Literally everything was a walk-on.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
dippindotsguy8 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Today I overheard a Magic Mountain employee explaining to the guests that Full Throttle is NOT a rollercoaster. It happened at sky tower, and when one of the guests pointed to the construction site and asked about it, she said "Yeah, it's that new full throttle thing. They're advertising it as a rollercoaster, but it's not. It's going to be one of those giant loop rides." -
Golden Ticket Awards 2012 Results
dippindotsguy8 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are disagreements and then there utterly absurd results like Mean Streak beating out T-Express. QFT. I understand that ranking is quite subjective, which is why I usually don't pay too much attention to these or get irritated by them. But let's not pretend that it's a little weird to see a coaster like Mean Streak beating so many coasters that are easily considered worlds better, even by the general public. I'm not shocked about most of this, but some of the rankings are just insane. Plus, so many coasters that are very comparable (the B&M hypers, and the medium-sized GCI's, for example) are spread very far apart.
